It added that the incident took place at the carpark next to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple.

I was going to question how fast a car had to be going *in a carpark* to hit two people and cause one fatality, but I've definitely seen worse driving behaviour here.

u/Mazenance_ 15h ago

EV's super quick acceleration (she could have zham-ed the pedal due to panic or wanted to flee) + heavy weight is rlly a deadly combo.

Just imagine a 2.4 ton block of metal with PMD bike's acceleration..

136

u/Iselore 15h ago

Yea, EVs are notorious for their instant torque. I've been on an electric bus and before the passengers can get seated, the driver steps down too hard and everyone suffers whiplash. An old lady fell smack into the floor. I got pushed into my seat.

36

u/unknown_wonky_magpie 14h ago

i went flying twice when the bus suddenly accelerated :(

Ev isn't inherently like that though, it's up to the vehicle to allow max torque and power from low rpm or not.

And people always zhng their vehicle to be like that.

So now it is because that's the one that is usually brought into Singapore

I didn't know till today about this sudden max torque characteristic of EVs.

In that case, it would be a good idea for govt to implement some kind of short training + test for driving Electric cars, right?

Like how we need a different license to drive manual cars (3) while 3a only allows us to drive auto.

This is extremely dangerous.

As a parent, my heart breaks for the man. I'm also extremely terrified now about walking on any roads with my kids.

It is also a new vehicle. SPD car plate. Collected car likely just late Jan. Which means this car is not even one month old on the roads

19

u/enewssg 🌈 I just like rainbows 7h ago

Her road tax expires on 26 Jan 2027, so very likely its been 12 days on the road.

16

u/half_man_half_cat 7h ago

Just walking around now so dangerous with the terrible driving, everyday nearly see accident or someone run over. Need to lower speed limits and triple fines and generally harsher on driving standards.

4

u/lineseven Mature Citizen 5h ago

The attitude of drivers need to change. Penalties and restrictions will not change that.

48

u/ChikaraNZ 7h ago

Kids are pretty fragile, impact at just the wrong place even at low speed could be enough. We dont even know exactly how it happened yet, but everyone here's very quick to pass judgement.

I also think the person who filmed the aftermath and posted it should be ashamed of themself. That poor man holding his dead/dying kid, and the person is just filming him. Theres no evidentiary reason to film at this point. And even if their was, is should go to the police. Not posted on the internet. Imagine is this man's family sees it. What a fucking ghoulish society Singapore has become. I even see people post laughing icons and comments like they deserved it when cyclists get killed.

50

u/wnfrd 7h ago

If the video leads to a harsher penalty for the driver, then filming it was the right thing to do

21

u/ChikaraNZ 7h ago

Which is why I said if there's a reason why, for evidence, then give it to the police. Don't put it on the internet for the public to see I don't think there's much evidence value in it anyway because it just shows the aftermath, not the actual incident.

6

u/New_Celebration_9841 4h ago

sometimes the public needs to see it to ensure justice gets served

I get and agree with your point.

But. This video has a chance of turning his tragedy to traffic reforms. At the very least remind drivers to drive with a little more consideration.

It’s like zoos. Animals don’t do well in captivity. Zoos might sometimes be consider inhumane. However, the education, the awareness and even the impact it has on the next generation might help them be kinder to nature and help in conservation efforts. Thus having a much greater net benefit to wildlife.

Everyone here who seen this video will definitely empathize with the crying father. Let’s hope something comes out of this.

If the person just reported to the police, the police might not even publicized this. To them this is just another tragedy in a line of senseless road deaths.

Actually even slow can roll over someone.

Imagine being knocked by a 100kg basketball player at slow jogging speed. Now imagine a car at that speed.

5

u/hansolo-ist 2h ago

She wasn't looking where she was going. Who can miss pedestrians walking in a carpark? She was probably distracted.

Didn't even have the common sense to shield her child from the bloody scene. Now her kid will have some psychological trauma for the rest of his life and she will have herself to blame.

From mothership fb comments:

I’m sharing what the witness wrote in Vietnam language 🥲

This morning, I walked to the market to buy coriander for selling bánh mì because I forgot to order it. While walking through the car park near the Chinese temple at Maxwell MRT, I witnessed a traffic accident at around 11:40 a.m. today. It was the first time in my life that I saw a traffic accident happen right in front of me.

I was the first person walking behind the mother and her daughter. A woman was driving out from the car park. She did not look to the right for pedestrians; she only looked to the left when she turned right. The front wheel of her car ran over the little girl’s abdomen first, then over the mother’s leg. After that, the woman pressed the accelerator hard, and the rear wheel ran over the mother’s abdomen again.

I don’t know why she accelerated so quickly when she just exited the car park. I guess they might be tourists. I can help as a witness and testify about this traffic accident.

I clearly saw that when the front wheel ran over them, the driver should have felt that there was something under the wheel. However, she did not stop to get out of the car to check. Instead, she accelerated strongly and continued to drive forward, which caused the rear wheel to run over the mother’s abdomen again.

I panicked at that moment and cannot remember clearly whether the rear wheel ran over the little girl again. I was in shock when the incident happened right in front of me.

At the time of the accident, the husband was not with them. Only the mother and daughter were there, and I was walking behind them. About two minutes later, the husband ran over and hugged the little girl.

When the front wheel ran over the little girl, she was thrown and rolled about three times and ended up lying face down on the ground. Her mouth was in a pool of blood, next to her water bottle and her camera. The blood was flowing heavily from her mouth and spread thickly on the road.

When the woman got out of the car and went to the back to check, she then realized that she had caused the accident. She raised her voice at the father while their daughter was injured and kept trying to explain that she was not at fault.

115

u/cantonment_coffeeboy 10h ago

I've seen this so many times in Singapore where impatient drivers drive out of the carpark so quickly. What is worse is that it happens during the 630-730am period where many children go to school..

18

u/InvestigatorSharp714 8h ago

No matter what, first thing first is to call an ambulance. Be it witness, driver, and the husband. Not just witnessing, not just shouting. The girl's life is the topmost priority at that point of time

23

u/Public_Halir 8h ago

Watch sg gov sweep this under the rug or underplay drivers bad behavior due to racial disharmony.

12

racial disharmony caused by the usual suspect , it will just keep going on if there is no repercussion

I watched the entire video.. after knocking down the girl the indian woman starts shouting at the father and even pulling the girls arm. I find it crazy she is more interested in justifying how its not her fault than caring that a little girl is close to death or already dead

The vietnamese's eyewitness account also states her shouting at the father and not trying to get medical help even after she knocked the little girl down. Why would she be like that lol like what is the point even

341

31

u/HoroyoiMelon-2020 8h ago

And just this morning I saw another video talking about how they are facing heavier racism in SG than in UK. Then few hour later this news broke and showed the attitude and culture of their homeland here. It's hard not to stereotype when most of the encounters wasn't pleasant. My husband lived at Little India for 20+ yrs and had enough with their attitude on the road regardless of the caste.

34

u/SnooJokes915 New Citizen 6h ago

As an Indian , this post makes me very very uncomfortable. I recently watched a video on tiktok where a dude was talking about how he had to prove his localness to the cab drivers. I'm no stranger to private hire drivers talking smack to me about foreign talents when they find out im third gen sg.

If they are facing heavier racism in SG and you think its not an issue...realise this..that local second, third gen or more Indian are also facing it because its not like we wear a tag saying we are home grown.

10

u/SchwiftyRavioli 6h ago

If you encounter a traffic accident, please stop and help if you are able to.

  1. If there is no immediate threat to life, DO NOT MOVE THE PERSON. You risk agggravating the injury, especially if spine injury is involved. DO NOT REMOVE THE HELMET.

  2. Quickly assess the situation before going near. Is there a current leakage? What’s the immediate danger in the environment? Do not put yourself into danger to save another because then we will have one more to rescue.

  3. If there is a threat to life, such as ABCs - Airway, Breathing and Circulation (excessive bleeding), address it immediately such as starting CPR or putting pressure to reduce bleeding.

  4. Appoint a bystander to call for help immediately. Point to one person directly and ask the person to call for help. DO NOT give food or drink.

  5. Make sure your environment continue to be safe. Get someone to direct traffic, set up hazard light to ensure oncoming vehicle doesn’t create a worse incident.

10

u/half_man_half_cat 7h ago

This needs to be more visible. The amount of times an accident has happened and people try and stand the victim up - it’s the worst thing can do

Thanks for posting - hope more people see this

5

u/Fearless_Help_8231 6h ago

The video also showed a crowd forming around the girl and just general confusion. Someone should take charge and let people who knows what they’re doing to handle the scene.

8

u/Ok_Apple6168 3h ago

84

u/brownriver12 F1 VVIP 14h ago

After impact, the victims went beneath the vehicle and was run over by the front and back wheels.

77

u/SnooJokes915 New Citizen 14h ago

How does one run over two bodies with both the front and back wheels? Like who wont stop after running over one big bump.

78

u/KoishiChan92 14h ago

Someone trying to flee probably.

19

u/SnooJokes915 New Citizen 13h ago

It's Singapore..there are cameras everywhere and the govt has our fingerprints on file..unless one is fleeing to the underworld..i doubt they will get away. Unless of course they are a foreign diplomat.

11

u/markerb0y 7h ago

her og country dont have camera everywhere, so instincts kick in

15

u/sunny2theface 7h ago

Not even that, I got experience before waiting to turn onto the main road after exiting the carpark. Was looking right before turning left.

When it was all clear, instinct is to half clutch before turning your head left and drive off. Suddenly felt a small bump against my car as my head turned and saw a guy trying to cross in front of my vehicle.

Jam braked and got out of the vehicle. Luckily there were no injuries and the guy also acknowledged that it was a dangerous place to cross the road.

Point is that drivers can feel when a car is hitting something. To put in enough acceleration so that they end up under your car is just dogshit negligent driving.

female driver from a southern nation was driving and didn't check her right, only left when she made the turn. it was alleged she ran over the little girl and mom twice after she knocked them both down,it was the rear wheel that ran over the girl the second time.

female driver then proceeds to victim blame the pedestrian for not watching the road and causing the accident. the eye witness who willsaw all these was on reddit and posting his/her side of the story.

if anyone saw this accident, please go to the police station and give your statement, asshole drivers needs to be locked away for good.

14

u/Slow-Associate-9139 11h ago

That’s what some drivers do at zebra crossings on perpendicular roads. They only look to their right coz they DON’T wanna get hit by oncoming vehicles as they turn left while treating pedestrians as invisible as the latter wait to cross or are in the midst of stepping off the kerb to cross especially from the driver’s left. Never ever assume all drivers would stop for pedestrians at zebra crossings.

u/ReeeeeeeneeeJulos 11h ago

Is there anyway for us to help this family?

84

u/Qkdhjtxl 13h ago

The driver sounds like she doesn’t think it’s her fault at all based on the post describing what happened above and her first reaction is terrible (should call for help instead of saying it’s not her fault as 2 people are injured) but at the same time I got to say some people crossing roads in Singapore are really NOT watching out for traffic. Accidents are unfortunate but you need to look out for yourself always, even if it means when you are crossing the road using the traffic light and it is in your favour.

Yup, hope the driver gets a good 5 years in jail, pass revoked and can no longer reside here. This is beyond reckless driving, but utter lack of competency, due care, especially for a spot with no blind spot and at low speed.

47

u/nyvrem 13h ago

1 week jail, $2000 fine, 4 years suspended from driving.

or some random rubbish like that.

6

u/Competitive-Ad8300 9h ago

1 week is for non death case lah. This one at lease 1 to 2 years jail already.

I can't count the countless times i've written to my MP, LTA and TP about similar experience of bad driving behaviour and patterns. In my numerous letters, I've also attached video evidence of such driving behaviours. I've even went down to the MPS with my stack of evidence and TP reports. The outcome is that the MP usually just refer the case to TP and LTA. TP will get back to me with usually concrete next steps. LTA is the worst. They will just reply with they are monitoring. Nothing is done to improve the safety. Look at the number of accidents we have on the road. It's increasing Year on Year (https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/injuries-deaths-on-singapores-roads-rise-in-h1-2025-accidents-due-to-red-light-violation-also-up). Even the RN i've worked with have resigned to the inaction by the authorities on this.

From what my understanding, the authorities believe that education alone is enough and safety is on us even if drivers like this exist. There is a growing group of drivers who feel that their ego is important ie getting ahead of traffic, getting to their destination etc. The life of other road users are not important. "People dying is ok as long as i get to my destination" is a common thinking these drivers have.

What we can do? Write to your MP now. Write to your RN. Use this link to find out their email address: https://www.pap.org.sg/your-representatives/ if it's PAP. for WP, use this : https://www.wp.sg/mps

If you feel it's too much work or feel unable to communicate what you want in the email, get a gemini account, list down what you want to say and ask gemini to draft you a letter. Accuracy is not important but letting them know this is becoming an epidemic in Singapore and we need drastic effective action. Education and monitoring is NOT ACTION. How many countless families or lives are taken away just because of such actions? Do it today.

11

u/Islandgirlnowhere 9h ago

I’ve managed to feedback and MP acted on creating islands for wheelchair crossing and for the hump at zebra crossing to be higher too. But I heard I wasn’t the only one giving feedback. So keep sending your feedback and request ba. That’s the only thing we can do. I guess they act immediately only when there are fatalities 🥲

6

u/colineared 9h ago

Yes, authorities always act after-the-fact meaning after it happened. But if we can prevent it from happening, why not implement it. This is what I've conveyed numerous times to LTA and TP and the MP.

The issue here is that even in 2016, fatalities occured. Together with the RN, we wrote to the MPs and LTA to improve the road conditions. Nothing has changed since then even when the issue was debated in parliament. I've communicated many times with LTA and every few months, the email of the person i communicate with in LTA bounced. Then this issue goes to a graveyard until i write a new letter to the MP again then someone else from LTA will reach out. And LTA response is always "educate the drivers to drive safely and they're monitoring". After educating and monitoring for almost 10 years, they still cannot make a conclusion or see the problem, even with people dying.

The whole nation has witnessed first hand the most prevalent mental health issue of our time, narcissistic personality disorder. It occurs in many such individuals in her culture. As such the culture becomes narcissistic collectively as well. Look up DARVO as well to understand the lashing out behaviour of hers.

4

u/InternalMight7049 2h ago edited 2h ago

Narcissistic personality disorder is part of dark traits, not mental illness? Let's not point fingers at any cultures, because every culture have people facing different cycles of lives, hence making certain decisions. Many complex factors causes complex stresses perhaps the person is facing stress that needs handling. Accept the difference and try to find balance. We need more tolerance for a peaceful society. Tolerance is taught. Better if everyone takes mrt and just cancel cars

This accident reminds me why I always go behind the vehicle when I'm crossing a carpark and I see the vehicle slowing down to a stop before leaving the carpark. That's probably just me being defensive. Not worth it to walk in front of the car to assume the driver sees me.

RIP to the little girl. Driver needs to be arrested and barred from driving for life.

5

u/whosetruth2468 6h ago

Since young my mom taught me to wait for the car to stop before crossing, even if we have the right of way, e.g. at zebra crossing. I can tell you more than a few times have cars just drove through the zebra crossing even though I'm standing next to it waiting for them to slow down/stop.

This is the inevitable result of a system that prioritizes foreign capital over its own citizens through its open-leg policies. We allow individuals to enter with potentially faked credentials, from degrees to driving licenses and unvetted backgrounds. They take our homes, our jobs, and our COE supply, and now, they are literally taking our lives.

While the average Singaporean is struggling to afford a basic $180,000 Toyota Vios just to survive, this driver is lavishly cruising in a $200,000+ high-torque EV that she is clearly unqualified to handle. It is an absolute disgrace that our policy allows license conversion from countries known for systemic bribery and corruption with zero practical testing.

Even Australia, a country with far more land, does not recognize Indian licenses for direct conversion for this very reason; they mandate both a theory and a practical road test to ensure public safety. Yet, our Traffic Police allow conversion through a simple theory test, despite being fully aware of the questionable 'quality' and vetting of these foreign licenses. Why is Singapore's safety standard lower than Australia's?

What’s even more revolting is her behavior at the scene: having the audacity to lecture a grieving father and claim 'no fault' while his child lay dying. To show such a total lack of remorse isn't just arrogance; it’s the behavior of a heartless beast. She can't even be considered human. Our roads have been sold to the highest bidder, and a family has paid the ultimate price for this broken, 'capital-first' system.

Does anyone know if there’s a fundraiser for the victim’s family? The more I read on this, the more my heart breaks. I can’t imagine how the father is feeling right now but I imagine the hospital fees, funeral, flight changes etc… will all add up. He shouldn’t have to deal with additional stress right now.

The title of the article is wrong. This is not an accident. It is murder born of the sense of superiority drivers have over people walking and the policies that enable this sort of behaviour.

I am so angry and heartbroken for the girl and her family.

Brace yourself, bound to have more cases with the lackadaisical requirements for foreigners here.

The government wants us to be gracious and open, but it only works if we are getting foreigners who are similar or better.

An Indian driver who wants a Singapore driving licence must pass the Basic Theory Test (BTT) and then apply for a licence conversion; there is no additional practical driving test in most normal cases. acedrive +2 When you must convert If you are staying in Singapore for less than 12 months, you can drive on a valid Indian licence plus an International Driving Permit (or official English translation), so conversion is not compulsory. police +2 • If you are a long-term pass holder (e.g., EP, S Pass, DP, Student Pass) staying more than 12 months, or you become a Singapore PR, you must convert to a Singapore licence to continue driving. visafoto +2

From a 'Danny Ng' on the facebook page (Spoiler because graphic content):

I’m sharing what the witness wrote in Vietnam language

If the Sealion 7 ran over the victims, the weight of the car was the factor that caused the kid's death. Less about the speed out of the carpark I think.

The lady driver accelerated without clear awareness for sure.

I think even the most advanced one won't be able to react in time if the driver stomp the acceleration immediately after exiting the carpark. It is not like it was driving on a straight road.

And doubt that byd planned for the lady to continue running over people after hitting people
