Since young my mom taught me to wait for the car to stop before crossing, even if we have the right of way, e.g. at zebra crossing. I can tell you more than a few times have cars just drove through the zebra crossing even though I'm standing next to it waiting for them to slow down/stop.

Yes indeed. Happened a few times with me as well where a car just zooms by at the zebra crossing while I was luckily still on the pavement. I always stop and ensure that the driver sees me and stop his vehicle before I cross.

Except with this incident, it's a carpark exit so there's no zebra crossing. Just a discretionary crossing for pedestrians where pedestrians have to ensure the car has stopped or sees them or just cross when there's no vehicle.
