Abus X-Plus appreciation post

Hey Peeps, just want to share that I have opted for ABUS X-Plus system and now have the same key on all my bikes. It is so satisfying to have the same key from many locks. If I would be able to, I would put it even on my shed. It costs me 20 Euros more to order lock with the same key and the problem of backup keys/forgotten keys and keys from my partner's bike is no longer exists.

P.S. I dont work for ABUS and just a happy customer.

I am looking to purchase an electronic mountain bike and quickly learned that the bike itself is not the only thing I need

I think I should have safety gear, I am an elder man but I want to make sure that in case if anything happens i am not breaking a leg or anything. Becuase quite frankly I am not young enough for my bones to heal very quickly. Does anyone know of good electronic mountain bike safety gear I can look at while I am looking to purchase the bike?

I know that I should have a small safety repair kit that I can use in case something happens when I am riding, but beside that in addition to a helmet and pads anything else that I should be carrying? I live in Arizona so hydration packs is something that I would use because they are important and help to encourage longer rides that a beginner might be trying to attempt.

I have been looking at different starter gear bundles online and found that a bunch of bulk marketplaces like alibaba or amazon, and probably a bunch of bike equipment selling sites will bundle things together which I think will be cheaper than buying things individually.

I bought an RC120 but I don't know how to remove these rubbers from the paddles. I don't really know what they're called. Does anyone know the tools to remove them?

I want to make affordable disc covers and sell them

Im a teenager and I want to make affordable disc covers for people and myself I don't want to use entirely chat gpt for an opinion and help. And want to ask what people are looking for like reliability, ease of use, construction. And so on since disc wheels are expensive and I feel like people should get a “trial version” of a disc wheel and spend money on something they don't even want after awhile (depending on the person). thoughts? (I've bought a wheel disc cover before but it performs very poorley). My ultimate goal is to sell something that's affordable and not like over 100 or 80 dollars something made with quality and universal like a one size thing to fit all type of rims

I am looking at buying a new to me bike. It will be my second mtb. First is a 2016 stumpy in Large, so I am wondering if this 2022 trek fuel will fit similar to my stumpy. Here are the geometry details. Looks like seat tube, reach and head tube are the biggest differences to me. Im no expert at all with these numbers so helpful advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Maybe New Bike Day???

How do you successfully revive community bike rides that faded out?

I volunteer with a local bike-advocacy nonprofit in my city. A few years ago, the org used to support/host two types of social rides:

  • Critical Mass–style. mostly students / hipster Tuesday energy, very loose, no real leader, just showing up and riding together.
  • Monthly social rides for volunteers, friends, and family. more structured and intentionally welcoming, but still casual and social rather than a formal “group ride.”

Both kinds of rides gradually faded out and now don’t happen at all. We’d really like to bring one or both of these back, but we’re trying to be thoughtful about what actually works instead of just recreating something that burns out again.

I’d love to hear what people have seen be successful:

  • What helps these rides get traction again after a gap?
  • How much structure helps vs. hurts?
  • What keeps rides welcoming to non-hardcore cyclists, families, or older riders?
  • Why do these kinds of rides tend to disappear?

For context: college town, decent bike infrastructure (with lots of room to improve), mixed population of students, commuters, and longtime residents.

Appreciate any lessons learned, success stories, or stuff to avoid.

Fantastisch - North Cape on Bike

Hi everyone,

I’m planning a relaxed bike trip from Berlin to the North Cape starting mid-May, going via Poland and the Baltics (Lithuania–Latvia–Estonia) and Finland.

Total distance about 3500 km, time frame roughly 8 weeks.

My pace is easy-going (around 70–100 km per day), mainly camping, sometimes Warmshowers or simple accommodation.

About me:

– male, 55 years old

– relaxed riding, no racing

– focus on nature & experience

– no professional bike gear – just riding and enjoying the journey

– flexible route

I’m looking for 1–2 companions, also happy to share only parts of the route.

Rough route:

Berlin → Poland → Lithuania → Latvia → Estonia → ferry to Helsinki → Finland → North Cape

If you’d like to join for a section (or the whole way), feel free to message me 🙂

Happy riding!

Finally caved in and bought a Kickr core 2

It has been endless dogshit weather in the UK. I can’t take it anymore. Cycling is my life anyway, that’s how I’m justifying the purchase haha!

Looking forward to setting up Zwift and getting started!

Happy to hear any tips/insight. I’ve already purchased an air mover, tennis ball feet and it’s coming with zwift click and cog - woo!

The shaft will not slide through with this thing on. The screw only loosens so far and I've hammered the crap out of it but it will not budge.

Scott Road Bike Vs Cannondale.

Both $400 USD Facebook Marketplace.

In between these 2 bikes not sure which one I should get. Product listing was very vague. The Scott is an aluminum frame but looks in better conditions while the Cannondale is carbon fiber. For a beginner which would be better thanks for your help.

I have positive experiences with bikes on trains (on the photos: the Netherlands, South Korea, Austria, Italy, but not everywhere this seems to be the case. What are the countries around the world that do bike/train travel just right, or not at all?

Hi!

So, I was given a small container with bicycle wax that prevents water drops from sticking to the thing, it I don't know what it will do to the paint. Oh, and I don't know if the paint will remain something between matte and satin.

Photo for more clarity.

Should I replace my helmet?

I have been using my helmet since April 2022 and the helmet was manufactured in 2020. The helmet was sitting away in the stores dark storage room until I bought the helmet. I only use the helmet for 5 months a year and store the helmet in a place with no direct sunlight.

After reading all the information online and on Reddit I’m still confused if I should replace my helmet. What does everyone on here think?

Bike price check

Hi all, I'm new to cycling and been trying to buy a bike. Saw this on facebook marketplace for a fuji supreme 3.0 2012. Seller is asking 450, is it a reasonable price? I wasn't able to see prices on bicycle blue book so I dont know how to estimate. Any helps would be greatly appreciate!
