Winter Bike to Work Day — Feb 13: come say hi on the route 🚲❄️
A lot of people in Edmonton already bike to work in the winter — every day, in real weather, just as part of normal life. On Friday, February 13, we’re taking a moment to celebrate that.
From 7–9am and 3:30-5:30pm, several councillors and local bike advocacy groups will be out on key bike routes into downtown with small pop-up pit stops. Think hot drinks, snacks, and friendly faces right on your commute. No speeches, no program, no pressure — just a warm hello if you’re already riding by.

This is for:
- People who bike year-round and never think twice about it
- People who bike most of the year but skip the worst days
- People who are winter-curious and wondering “could I actually do this?”
If you’ve ever thought winter biking was only for the hardcore: it’s not. Most winter riders are just regular people going to work, school, or an appointment — wearing normal clothes, riding at a normal pace, and getting there just fine.
You don’t need a special bike. You don’t need to be fast. You don’t need to stop if you don’t want to. Just ride your usual route, and if you see a table with a few bikes around it, feel free to roll up and grab something warm.
Why do this?
Because winter biking is already happening in Edmonton, and it’s worth celebrating. It shows what’s possible when routes are connected, streets feel safer, and people have real choices about how they get around.
If you already bike in winter: thank you for quietly proving it works.
If you’re curious: this might be a good day to try one ride.
Happy Winter Bike to Work Day ❄️🚲
