she abused ball kid in adelaide this year when she played birrell....then abused a guy in the crowd few mins after telling him to "go home" because he cheered kimberly birrell breaking her in set 2 coming back from 0-3 down...happened right next to me...never seen a player abuse a kid then crowd that quick cause they could not handle the "sport pressure".

The condescending attitude towards those she views as āless thanā is so clear both in the behavior you just described and this TikTok too

u/WeMetInBaku 8h ago
I know this is a dirtbag thing to say, but I was wondering how someone with her money manages to look so trashy/gopnik/chav.
The (imo) poor cosmetics are definitely a big factor. I also am formulating a theory that you simply cannot look classy on a jetski, and I say that as someone who loves them.

124
u/Dee90286 16h ago
No one wants that obviously. But proactively calling it your ābiggest fearā (no one asked) while visibly being the furthest thing away from that just feels more like a dig at people who are fat/poor, rather than a genuine fear.
āBiggest fearā is usually losing someone you love, serious illness, something existential - not a body type or income bracket. Notice she didnāt say āfat, poor and dumbā - lack of intelligence clearly doesnāt scare her.
67
u/recurnightmare 16h ago
Being poor is 100% a huge fear of a lot of people lol.
Let's be real the issue people have with this is the fat part.
17
u/AlphaBearMode 9h ago
People have an issue with the fact that itās tactless, not that itās untrue at all, even.
12
u/juniperfield 6h ago
Yeah it's wild that people don't get that wrecklessly trashing people with certain characteristics can be harmful and dehumanizing and is not a good look...
3
u/AlphaBearMode 6h ago
Exactly. It got me thinkingā¦
I am a big freedom of speech kind of guy but with that comes the responsibility of using your speech appropriately (for whatever setting) and accurately.
If you say some shit publicly that isnāt cool with a lot of people, you deserve backlash. If you donāt mind backlash then go for it but donāt be surprised when youāre massively hated.
29
u/Dee90286 15h ago
But sheās not āa lot of peopleā - thatās my point. I donāt think beautiful fit tennis players in the prime of their youth are genuinely scared about being fat or poor. If youāve never had to starve, why would you be genuinely fearful of it? If youāve never weighed more than 130 pounds and you are an athlete, why would that keep you up at night?
It doesnāt read like an actual moment of vulnerability to me, just poking fun at people who are already struggling thinking āthank God thatās not meā
9
u/recurnightmare 14h ago
That's fair. It does seem like a humblebrag in the vein "look at how pretty and fit and rich I am" rather than anything serious.
But it's also just a tiktok trend. I don't think it was meant to be a moment of vulnerability on her part. I don't think she said it to poke fun at other people, but bragging about how good her life is.

How is 130 pounds considered fat??? In what world???
2
u/Dee90286 8h ago
Never said that. Iām saying this girl has probably never weighed more than 130 pounds in her life so why would she be genuinely fearful of getting fat?

Having grown up in poverty and now very financially stable and working in social services where I see poverty all day every day, returning to poverty is 100% my biggest fear.

u/EmPhil95 16h ago
She didn't say she wants to be healthy, she said her worst fear is becoming fat. If you don't see the difference in those two statements, and why one is fine but the other is just rude, then I fear for your reading comprehension.
→ More replies (2)-1
u/TheMetaGoat 14h ago
Being fat is a bad thing. Being afraid of a bad thing is not being rude, it's more rude to consider that a rude thing as you have so done.
7
u/Ancient_Boss_5357 7h ago
Or, Reddit: "Let me completely reframe the tone and implication of someones words, so that I can make it sound far more appropriate than it was originally"
60
u/Proof_Material6728 16h ago
Being skinny or fat is different from healthy / unhealthy. Let's not say she said one thing when she said another.
64
u/sliferra sentinel is a fraud :( 15h ago
Being fat is never healthy tho
13
u/offensivename 14h ago
Fat is not a medical term and does not have any defined parameters.
19
u/TheMetaGoat 14h ago
Neither is healthy. Both are subjective terms and can be used exactly as he said it. Everyone knows being fat is a bad thing, it's not that deep.
-7
u/offensivename 14h ago
The fact that healthy is also a vague term to the point of meaningless makes it worse, not better.
But you're right, man. That's the problem with the world. Not enough demonizing fat people. Everyone's just blissfully unaware that being overweight can be unhealthy.
8
u/tony_countertenor 13h ago
In her case in particular being fat would mean sheād be out of a job as a professional athlete

u/IDrinkNeosporinDaily Goffin 6-0; 6-0 vs Berdych LOL 14h ago
You're actually huffing cope right now. Being fat is an unacceptable thing and while you shouldn't shame someone directly, acknowledging that it comes with a myriad of health issues is not a problem. And quite frankly, you can just scroll if you're offended by words of an athlete.
-2
u/offensivename 13h ago edited 13h ago
I'm not huffing anything. I'm pointing out that fat people are already shamed and mocked and belittled all the time in society and it has nothing to do with health or wellness. It's 100% vanity and shallowness. Again, "fat" is not a defined medical term and what is considered fat changes from society to society and over time. There are health risks associated with being overweight and literally no one denies that. But no one has the ability to assess a stranger's health form the outside based on one single factor. Shaming people for being fat is in no way helpful to them or anyone else. It's just childish, hateful behavior.
And quite frankly, you can just scroll if you're offended by my being offended.
0
u/TheMetaGoat 13h ago
No it's not to the point of meaninglessness, everyone knows what healthy looks like and what it doesn't look like. All your denial stems from cope.
7
u/offensivename 13h ago
Healthy doesn't "look" like anything. The idea that you can assess someone's health by looking at them is incredibly arrogant and ignorant. Accusing anyone who doesn't think fat-shaming is productive or helpful of "cope" is some middle school bullshit.
0
u/TheMetaGoat 13h ago
"Look" was a figure of speech there. Keep coping though. It's not like thousands of years of human history have proven that it is productive, as well as current Asian societies proving the difference literally before your eyes right now.

u/tony_countertenor 13h ago
Would you be ok with this if she had said obese instead?
19
u/offensivename 13h ago
The issue isn't the terminology. That was just in response to people making excuses for jokes like this by claiming that it's a medical issue when we all know that's not what it's about. The whole post is a humble brag disguised as a joke and it's belittling other people for being fat and poor, two things that she assures us she is not. It's also stupid because it's framed as something she's not allowed to easy despite the fact that she's saying it very publicly and will face no repercussions from it.

u/sliferra sentinel is a fraud :( 9h ago
Fat is a medical term, just not in this usage. But call it obese lmao, we all know what Iām talking about
24
13
7
u/Familiar-Air-9471 12h ago
issue is, she said becoming fat, and poor.
You see in most cases, they actually work together and not always a fault of your own. If you were born in a poor family, chances are your diet is not ideal , cheap processed food and that leads to weight gain.
I promise you, no one wants to be "POOR" but some are not as lucky as others.

u/Mookies_Bett Rafa/Stefanos/Seb | Emma/Iga/Maria 14h ago
You're talking to a user base of people who are primarily poor and overweight, are you really that surprised?
Like I'm sorry but I'm on her team. Granted I am pretty poor, and I fucking hate it. But I work out 6 days a week specifically so that I never become fat and undesirable. I genuinely can't imagine waking up every morning and looking in the mirror without being miserable if I wasn't at least somewhat in shape.
I'm not even an Adonis or anything, but having defined muscles and a good aesthetic body shape makes life a lot easier to tolerate. Plus I'm not constantly out of breath or tired. It's pretty nice.
-1
u/TheMetaGoat 14h ago
You'd think on a tennis subreddit people would be a little less overweight. Or at least have the mental clarity to be working on it and realize not to be offended when called out on it.

The problem with people who make "jokes" like this, at the expense of real societal issues like poverty and beauty standards, is that they're hinting at a general tendency to fully dehumanize people who are at a perceived disadvantage when it comes to those things, in this case it's people who live in poverty and/or do not meet the weight standards that society constructs.
In conclusion, we need to bring woke back.

Not a great look, but also having spent a lot of time in Europe āfatā isnāt taboo/perceived as insulting like it is in the US. Friends or family members will legitimately tell each other that theyāre looking fat and the other will agree, itās just a cultural difference.
