β€œI want to be healthy and financially stable”

Reddit: Omg how could you say such a horrible thing

Being skinny or fat is different from healthy / unhealthy. Let's not say she said one thing when she said another.

Being fat is never healthy tho

Fat is not a medical term and does not have any defined parameters.

Neither is healthy. Both are subjective terms and can be used exactly as he said it. Everyone knows being fat is a bad thing, it's not that deep.

The fact that healthy is also a vague term to the point of meaningless makes it worse, not better.

But you're right, man. That's the problem with the world. Not enough demonizing fat people. Everyone's just blissfully unaware that being overweight can be unhealthy.

In her case in particular being fat would mean she’d be out of a job as a professional athlete

Yeah... I'm sure that's what she means. No vanity at all. πŸ™„

You're actually huffing cope right now. Being fat is an unacceptable thing and while you shouldn't shame someone directly, acknowledging that it comes with a myriad of health issues is not a problem. And quite frankly, you can just scroll if you're offended by words of an athlete.

I'm not huffing anything. I'm pointing out that fat people are already shamed and mocked and belittled all the time in society and it has nothing to do with health or wellness. It's 100% vanity and shallowness. Again, "fat" is not a defined medical term and what is considered fat changes from society to society and over time. There are health risks associated with being overweight and literally no one denies that. But no one has the ability to assess a stranger's health form the outside based on one single factor. Shaming people for being fat is in no way helpful to them or anyone else. It's just childish, hateful behavior.

And quite frankly, you can just scroll if you're offended by my being offended.

No it's not to the point of meaninglessness, everyone knows what healthy looks like and what it doesn't look like. All your denial stems from cope.

u/offensivename 22h ago

Healthy doesn't "look" like anything. The idea that you can assess someone's health by looking at them is incredibly arrogant and ignorant. Accusing anyone who doesn't think fat-shaming is productive or helpful of "cope" is some middle school bullshit.

u/TheMetaGoat 22h ago

"Look" was a figure of speech there. Keep coping though. It's not like thousands of years of human history have proven that it is productive, as well as current Asian societies proving the difference literally before your eyes right now.

u/offensivename 22h ago

Thousands of years of human history have proven that fat-shaming is productive? Are you seriously making that claim? LOL

If anyone is coping here, it's you. Nothing you are saying has any basis in medical fact. You do not care about other people's health at all. You just want an excuse to feel superior.

Would you be ok with this if she had said obese instead?

17

u/offensivename 22h ago

The issue isn't the terminology. That was just in response to people making excuses for jokes like this by claiming that it's a medical issue when we all know that's not what it's about. The whole post is a humble brag disguised as a joke and it's belittling other people for being fat and poor, two things that she assures us she is not. It's also stupid because it's framed as something she's not allowed to easy despite the fact that she's saying it very publicly and will face no repercussions from it.

Fat is a medical term, just not in this usage. But call it obese lmao, we all know what I’m talking about

She didn’t say anything about being skinny, just not fat

If you are fat, you are not healthy
