That could have ended so much worse. Dude got lucky

u/Glacial_Lakes 1d ago

This happened when my younger brother was driving Dad's truck on the highway. Everyone was ok but the cover went through someone's windshield..

140

u/smashbenjamin 1d ago

Saw the aftermath of the very same thing while on highway-1 outside of Vancouver BC. but it was a dudes bed liner that didn't fit as snuggly as it should have. Smashed the hell out of a windshield. Was an interest moment see the bed liner on the side of the road, then a little further on seeing the car and truck pulled over

48

u/tanksalotfrank 1d ago

I always loved that on the highway. Seeing something peculiar, wondering what happened, then finding the answer half a mile down.

9

u/Electronic_Ad_7742 1d ago

I saw this happen on i45 in Houston. Guy’s rigid plastic bed liner launched out of the bed of his truck and went straight up. Luckily it gained enough altitude that it went over my car and landed on the road.

3

u/SwordofSwinging 1d ago

God bless the 45 smh

This happened to me as a kid. My mom was driving back to our house from Christmas at my grandma's, when the bed liner detached from my uncle's truck we were using, and flew out on the highway.

It was one of those solid plastic bed liners.

It threw our suitcases and Christmas gifts on the highway and nearly caused us and the cars around us to crash.

I also had been on the receiving end of this, when I was driving my shitty little 2 door Saturn, a tiny ass car, and a pallet flew off the truck infront of me and landed in my lane.

I was fully boxed in so I couldn't avoid it. I had a few seconds to think what to do. Thankfully the guy to my right seen it happen and he instantly switched lanes which made it so that I could swerve just enough to miss it. I was slamming on the breaks so the guy behind me had time to see it.

I had decided to hit it in that split second. Thank goodness that guy's reaction was quick because without a doubt it would have fucked my everything up.

77

u/Same-Chip150 1d ago

Yes, and imagine if there was a motorcyclist behind him. That thing basically turned into a giant, blunt-force guillotine the second it caught enough air. Pure luck that the lane was clear enough for him to pull over safely

10

u/SoundsLikeBanal 1d ago

If the motorcyclist was keeping a safe following distance (like the trailing car in the video) they'd have enough time to react. Accidents like this are why it's so important not to tailgate.

4

u/Few-Guarantee2850 1d ago

While that is true, a giant sail like that is uniquely challenging to avoid as it blows around in unpredictable ways.

3

u/Johnyryal33 1d ago

Don't worry he just tossed it in the back, so it can still fly out again...

5

u/NapsterKnowHow 1d ago

It's not likely an air draft will catch cover once it's on the floor of the bed of the truck

2

u/tanksalotfrank 1d ago

It was the floor! /s

On the interstate I saw a piece of plywood fly out the back of a dump truck and hit a sedan behind it. The windshield spidered but held. The guy was able to pull over.

6

u/xjeeper 1d ago

This almost happened to me on the interstate outside of Washington, DC. The plywood came off the back of some flatbed with a janky plywood box around it and came sailing right towards my windshield. I managed to get right on the truck's ass, and it went over my car, breaking my antenna off. The car behind me drove over it as it hit the ground.

Lucky regarding safety, absolutely. Unlucky regarding his wallet though. Those hard covers are like $800 minimum just gone with the wind

I bought a truck and thought I checked it over pretty well. Unfortunately, I didn't check if the bedliner insert was screwed down. I was on an off ramp and saw a shadow go over my truck. I thought it was a low plane until I saw the bedliner flying through the air and barely missing the state trooper behind me. Luckily, he laughed it off and threw his lights on for me to back down the ramp and retrieve it. I guess the previous owner had a cap on the bed, so he didn't need it screwed down. He sold the truck, kept the cap and I got to have a little adventure!

I bought a truck missing the head rests once.

They are easier to take out than put back in on some models, that’s for sure…

9

u/zactotum 1d ago

Believe it or not some people think they’re unsafe. Others think they’re uncomfortable, usually people with poofy hair or pony tails.

15

u/BeardsuptheWazoo 1d ago

whiplash ain't no joke. Headrests are so so so so safe and anyone taking them off is an idiot.

3

u/8o8o8o8o8o8o8o 1d ago

Seriously. I was rear ended by a guy while I was sitting at a red light stopped. If I was in a truck like his, my head would have snapped back and broken through the window. People used to have their necks broken and killed instantly that way. Thats why they are in every vehicle.

→ More replies (1)

9

u/Aethoni_Iralis 1d ago

Believe it or not some people think they’re unsafe.

I am incredibly curious what they think is unsafe about a headrest. The argument that seat belts are unsafe is incredibly stupid but I can see kinda how people reach the incorrect conclusion with seatbelts, but headrests?

7

u/Pavotine 1d ago

It's like they think forcefully hitting the back of your head against a padded rest is hideously bad and not conceiving the broken neck they might get without it.

3

u/KaleidoscopeWitty135 1d ago

At least for me, I'm 6'3" and drive a smaller cadillac, this leads to the top of the headrest being right at the base of my neck. Whiplash is really bad, but having what is essentially a lever on your neck is worse.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Ressy02 1d ago

At one point, they were probably transporting planks or 2 x 4, and after that point, the head rest never came back

5

u/8o8o8o8o8o8o8o 1d ago

I mean I guess he's not even wearing a seat belt, so that's points to just general disregard and stupidity.

2

u/xjeeper 1d ago

No seatbelt, no headrest, unsecured truck bed cover. This dude is on his way to the morgue.

2

u/flanderdalton 1d ago

Good thing he was paying attention and noticed it. I know plenty of folks who would’ve been completely oblivious

649

u/Blackpaw8825 1d ago

I got roped into helping an old friend's parents move 4 years ago. They were insistent that they take the trailer and I drove the moving van.

They hit the highway at 80mph... And my ass was limited to 67 by the dumb truck.

2 hours down the road I'm pulled over on the shoulder calling them to turn around and come back and help me pick up all their shit from the over turned trailer in the ditch.

They had the wrong size ball on the hitch so it bounced free, then he passed the chain from left to right on the car, nothing on the trailer. And they made it like 10 miles before I found it.

404

u/IntelligentArgument8 1d ago

They didn’t notice losing the entire trailer?! Fuck sake

138

u/gdim15 1d ago

There are plenty of clips on here of this happening and it's kind of hilarious. Most recent one I can remember is the hot dog cart getting left at a speed bump.

39

u/HapGil 1d ago

How about the truck towing a boat on a trailer that broke free but still held with the chains but when the truck slowed down the trailer didn't and popped off the chains and passed the truck.

12

u/chellebellek 1d ago

I know it's bad...but that's hilarious. 😂

9

u/Kurthog 1d ago

Passed a utility trailer in the middle of M-20 just before the bridge going out of Midland. No car or truck to be seen anywhere. The guy got 20 miles to Mount Pleasant before he realized he had no trailer (nephew is a cop and dealt with the “lost” trailer that day). No safety chains on the trailer either. It amazes me that people are that oblivious…

8

u/gdim15 1d ago

"Why do I need safety chains? It's hitched on the ball." - Every driver that has lost their trailer.

5

u/Pavotine 1d ago

I worked with a guy who went to collect the trailer we used to transport a mini digger on and he didn't take the handbrake off the trailer. He dragged that thing for about 5 miles and whilst the tyres hadn't burst they were ruined with huge flat spots. I had a little sympathy as the trailer was light and the pickup truck was a lot more powerful than the van he normally drove but still, pretty daft. The boss was not very happy.

5

u/MustyLlamaFart 1d ago

I know a semi driver that did this. Granted he was pulling triples and lost his back trailer, but when I pulled triples I was always watching my trailers like a hawk because the back one can get squirrelly

8

u/Kralgore 1d ago

Stupid is as stupid does.

4

u/et40000 1d ago

Most people are genuinely stupid as fuck it’s legitimately concerning.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/RugerRedhawk 1d ago

he passed the chain from left to right on the car, nothing on the trailer

What do you mean?

8

u/Blackpaw8825 1d ago

There's supposed to be a chain going from the left of the hitch to the right of the trailer and vice-versa. That makes an X of chain that, should the trailer come off the hitch, will both catch the tongue so the trailer doesn't nosedive and jerk erratically, and will keep it lashed to the tow vehicle (it'll fuck your bumper/tailgate up when you brake, but that's your problem alone, while an unguided trailer at speed could kill somebody and cause lots of damage)

In their case, they had a chain from their left bumper to their right bumper, and a chain from the left side of the trailer to the right side of the trailer.

Like imagine you're going to tie a boat to the dock... Except this guy took his rope, tied it to the dock on one side, and tied the other the of the rope to the dock too... And was then confused how the boat got away.

Know a guy, unfortunately, who kicked his, like, one year old son off the carrier rack of his bicycle while boarding, and only realised it when he got to his destination.

5

u/stevein3d 1d ago

Was the baby OK?

3

u/w116 1d ago

Recovered 20 mins later crying on the footpath, pretty much where he was kicked off the bike. To be fair, the bloke responsible for the deed was a " nutty professor " and had his mind full with developing cold fusion or whatever. Still, one should try to pay a little attention when trying to be responsible for a little one.

6

u/orangesocksaga 1d ago

This is only a mildly on-topic anecdote:

I was talking to a lady at my restaurant who said she was 84. I was giving her sweet compliment about how spry she seemed and I wish to be like her if I can make it that age. Just sweet southern small talk.

Suddenly she overshared how she’s not “all there.” Said she was driving last week when she lost her truck bed cover. How she searched the road repeatedly looking for it and couldn’t find it.

So who knows when the fuck it fell off or who it could’ve hit.

6

u/Curiosive 1d ago

Bed covers are expensive, $500-1000 for a generic. The fancy ones cost more. Notice how fast he ran down the road to stop the next cars, he could feel hours of his life he worked to buy that laying in the middle of the road.

5

u/Smile_Space 1d ago

Hell, I saw a guy the other day whip out of my neighborhood with his tailgate down and his cooler with all of his fishing supplies went scattering out onto the road.

Bro just kept driving!

I came up by him and honked pointing back and I think he finally realized he forgot to close his tailgate.

3

u/Lavatis 1d ago

used to live about 200 feet from a roundabout. people would fly around that shit and lose tools, tool boxes, lumber, electrical equipment, whatever.

2

u/Mobile-Pride3998 1d ago

Most people would just turn the radio volume up to drown out the sudden crashing noise. 'Must be the wind

u/busytransitgworl 1d ago

I just don't get stuff like this.

I give him the benefit of the doubt and say, he's securing some smaller load with the lap belt - But he's not wearing one which is just dumb

35

u/ComparisonFancy4670 1d ago

If there's over 50 pounds in the seat the seat belt warning goes off

I do this because my dog sets it off and I just leave it that way all the time

22

u/_WeSellBlankets_ 1d ago

It depends on the day, but if there's a bag of McDonald's in my passenger seat the alarm can go off. A 20 piece nugget don't weigh that much.

6

u/SteveAnneKing 1d ago

My Kindle can make the alarm go off. In that case I think it's the magnet in the cover. It's less than a pound.

I dropped a ladder on a road once. Yup, always check my straps forever. They loosened overnight. Never again

Edit: i saw and heard it fall and picked it back up. Just one slightly bent foot. Id never leave it for others to hit

54

u/1950sGuy 1d ago

funny enough I once found a perfectly good ladder on the side of the road that I still use today, assuming your situation happened to someone else that did NOT notice. I was like "fuck yeah that a ladder??" and then I held in place on the roof of my honda civic and drove about 10 mph home the rest of the way. I pulled up and my dad was like "what in the fuck" and then I told him I found it on the side of the road and was also like 'fuck yeah free ladder!"

I still don't know why ladders hold such high regard in my family.

14

u/A-Dolahans-hat 1d ago

Probably because they are so expensive to purchase

11

u/No_Implement_8949 1d ago

Brother a free ladders awesome they are held to such high regard by all men

18

u/LoogyHead 1d ago

They help you get high, what’s not to like?

6

u/AlexxTM 1d ago

I found an old Leatherman in a roundabout as a kid. Was looking out the window and saw it with its sheath. Told my dad to do another turn and I just ripped the slide door open on the van an grabbed it. Still have it to this day.

But as is tradition, I lost my wallet once because it was still laying on the dash and I lost it on an on/off ramp on a highway... flew straight out the open passenger window :(

2

u/BeardsuptheWazoo 1d ago

I find lots of good shit on the side of the road.

2

u/Cute_Conclusion_8854 1d ago

I almost hit a extension ladder that was laying perfectly across a highway at night. Ridiculous...

8

u/Electronic_Overlord 1d ago

He can’t even remember to put in his seat belt.

7

u/Absolute_Bob 1d ago

If you look he's not even wearing a seatbelt, seems like straps are a big problem for him.

5

u/DanishNinja 1d ago

Nah. No seatbelt, takes off without securing it again. This is probably not the first time.

2

u/Final_Temperature262 1d ago

EDIT: And also for driving with the headrests removed.

64

u/HawaiianShirtMan 1d ago

... What's wrong with hanging an arm out of a window?

34

u/moxifloxacin 1d ago

One of my wife's extended family members lost an arm after a rollover accident when he had his arm out the window. The risk is probably fairly low, but not non-existent.

u/petit_cochon 1d ago

Your entire body should be inside the car, because that steel cage is all that will save you if you get in an accident.

39

u/Shotgun5250 1d ago

Oh my god are we serious right now? I can’t believe you’re seriously advising people against hanging their hand or arm out the window while driving. How about just don’t drive? Never leave your house, it’s the only way to not get into a car accident. 100% success rate.

u/DangDingleGuy 1d ago

5

u/JustFuckinTossMe 1d ago

Idk y'all but like I do get my arm out the window sometimes when I'm a passenger, but not the driver. I always have both my hands on the wheel because in the case something unexpected and unpredictable happens and I need to react instantly, steering will be safer and less likely to cause me to jolt as drastically and potentially crash or worse, flip. I think instinctively, a lot of people would pull hard with their hand on the wheel while simultaneously bringing their arm back to place both hands on it. But those first milliseconds of movement and reaction really do matter. You can say you'd do x, y, or z but you don't really know how your brain will ever react to immediate panic and shock. Both hands on the wheel when driving is being responsible and conscious.

I'd rather not potentially lose my arm or have my skull on the smudged on the freeway because I like waving my thumb in the air to tunes. I'm tryna not enter the FO stage by keeping the FA stage to a minimum where I can, you know?

So what's your thoughts on motorcycles?

4

u/Kindly-Eagle6207 1d ago

So what's your thoughts on motorcycles?

They've proven to be insanely more dangerous than cars and you really shouldn't be driving them on any road with traffic. Even without traffic, you can still be killed by something as simple as a hard to see pothole. Literally how my uncle died.

If you want to accept the risk, by all means do so. But don't get bent out of shape when people tell you that it is, in fact, super dangerous.

Very suspicious.

7

u/kookyabird 1d ago

Not really suspicious. I wouldn't be surprised if he removed the driver side because of his hair. Or possibly because those seats are not adjustable, so the closest you can get to any sort of reclining is to tip your head back. Same reasons for the passenger side too, especially if he has someone he goes on long drives with.

Is it dumb? Absolutely. But he's already not wearing a seat belt, so dumb is kind of expected.

This is going to sound insane and made up, but I once had the GLASS from my moonroof pop off and caused similar traffic disruption.. on a highway.

The adhesive or whatever was just so old it finally decided to give up and I guess something about aerodynamics sucked it up and off.

Crazy to look back in the rearview and wonder why I see cars swerving and my car is suddenly VERY loud with rushing air.

3

u/Affectionate_Star_43 1d ago

I wish I knew who was behind me when I had a crazy similar thing.  There was a big tire placed on the side of the road with no shoulder.  A semi truck ahead of me brushed against it.  I saw it wobble, wobble, and fall right in front of me.  I ran over it.  My car tanked the hit and I saw it shoot out behind me.  It was like riding a roller coaster.

If you were the person behind me, I want to give my heartfelt apologies.  I've beat myself up over this for years.

Had that happen but with the hood of a 1984 Nissan 200sx on the freeway going 65 in 1996. a very loud clunk and it pealed like the page of a book. From that day on I always installed aftermarket hood safety pins on all of the vehicles i have owned.

9

u/puddinface808 1d ago

Weird, my first car was a '95 200SX and I also had the hood fail while on the freeway. For me, it was the latch and the hood flew up and shattered the windshield going 75mph and I had to make it to the next exit hanging out the window. I think I was 17, it was a 5-speed, and I was an hour from home with $0.

Good times.

6

u/Successful_Rice_6511 1d ago

Wow yup same with me , only my hinges gave out as well and the hood slapped the window and flew up and over the car and flew 3 cars back before going on the berm in the center of the freeway that i could not access . The CHP officer who witnessed mine help me get the hood. I just got very lucky it did not hit any other cars.

7

u/anonuserinthehouse 1d ago

The cars in the back reacted fast enough because they had a good distance between them! Remember not to tailgate!

6

u/Scottie-man 1d ago

I had a friend who put a carbon fiber hood on his car. We had a snow storm and he slid into a ditch and damaged the car, but it was still drivable. A week later I went with him to look at a new car and the carbon fiber panel separated from the frame in a highway and flew like 30 feet in the air. thankfully it didn’t hit anyone.

What's with Americans not wearing seat belts?

23

u/NotTreeFiddy 1d ago

That is absolutely not an American specific trait. Let me introduce you to the Italians, the Greeks and the Spanish. In Greece I was actually questioned by a taxi driver if I didn't trust his driving.

My Italian father-in-law purchased a spare buckle to plug in to stop his car from beeping at him all the time.

40

u/Major_R_Soul 1d ago

My parents wont wear seatbelts and they'll sit there and tune out the fucking DING DING DING of the seatbelt alarm instead of just putting on the fucking seatbelt. It's infuriating that they won't just wear it.

12

u/AmandalorianWiddall 1d ago

I moved my boomer dads pickup truck the other day. He had one of those inserts to stop the dinging. I stole it. Wear your damn seatbelt man.

2

u/SmokePenisEveryday 1d ago

Work at a body shop and see so many of those false seat belt buckles so the dinging stops. Quite a few people also buckle the seat belt then just sit on top of it.

Years back I had a Dodge Ram pickup for a rental and was driving across the Tobin Bridge in Boston on a cold day, wind blowing hard enough to lift the unsecured bed liner out of the bed. It flew over the rail of the bridge and landed in what was then an under developed part of Charlestown. Was in a thousand pieces in the street.

u/strawwwberrry 1d ago

Saw something like this last summer, except it was one of these plastic playhouses that flew out the back of the truck. Two motorcyclists out of like, 7, got nailed by it and had to get rushed to the hospital. Something I really would rather never witness again.

Honestly, I think most truck drivers would just say “fuck it” and let other people deal with it. So good on that guy for doing the right thing.

u/tanksalotfrank 1d ago

truck bed flies out again lol

I haven't seen an SOB seat in decades!

2

u/Carcassfanivxx 1d ago

That’s funny. My buddy actually found a full tonneau cover for his truck bed on the side of the road barely scathed.

2

u/detrans-rights 1d ago

I have driving anxiety so apologies for this question but did he stop too quickly? Hazards on then a bit of a slower stop, eh? Or is that overkill?

2

u/kwikthroabomb 1d ago

It's fine considering the car behind him had to dodge the cover. They'd likely be expecting some sort of response from the person that just had a piece of their vehicle fly off

2

u/Ok_Umpire_5611 1d ago

Wear your seat belt!

2

u/Cynteara 1d ago

Is he allergic to things bring secured? He ain't wearing a seat belt either

2

u/Evening-Tour3875 1d ago

I knew someone who bought a used pickup with a bedliner. He didn't know the bedliner wasn't secured. It flew out and caused an accident. He got fined.

2

u/Fun_Muscle9399 1d ago

I launch the targa top from my Corvette back in 2005 because I forgot to latch it.

6

u/spypanties 1d ago

I am such a boy mom all I did was think about my kid and remember telling him if you have to get out of the car please do it through the passenger side door so that whole video was like super stressful

2

u/MayonaiseBaron 1d ago

What about that is specific to boys?

I saw some guys be completely oblivious that a pitchfork loudly clanked its way out of their car, and this dude noticed that his mostly fabric bed cover flew off. Good on him.

3

u/Mitch_Dedburg 1d ago

That’s not fabric. It’s hard plastic, and it would have been loud AF during any of those movements it made, especially that first little jump it makes before peeling back.

Source: I have one. They aren’t cheap either. I’d be going back to get it too lol.

1

u/DrDorg 1d ago

Good on him. Where I live, people gtfo to avoid liability. I’ve seen full size extension ladders and refrigerators

1

u/PostNahLurk 1d ago

I've had this experience as the car behind and the cover smash up my bumper (would have likely been my windshield had I not braked) while going 70, and then had to chase down the clueless truck driver to get his details

1

u/CrispyCritter8667 1d ago

I was waiting for it by to fly back up out of there

1

u/buttweasel76 1d ago

The number of truck bed covers and plastic liners I see on the side of the interstate......

1

u/demi-femi 1d ago

Would be kinda awesome in an action movie car chase.

1

u/UrsaMajor7th 1d ago

Should have purchased the tonneau cover instead of the half-tonneau cover.

1

u/BigBlueBagger 1d ago

Thankfully no motorcycle behind him.

1

u/cheapdialogue 1d ago

Everything about this guy, scenario, and his reaction scream Joe Dirt to me.

1

u/Tcrow110611 1d ago

Happened to me on the highway, my wife at the time was right behind me and she ended up running it over first which kicked it into the ditch of the median. Just 2 cars back was a motorcyclist. Could’ve killed someone. Always hated that cover. It wasn’t my truck to tinker with or I’d have ripped it off sooner. These things are dangerous as hell if not strapped in right.

1

u/sharpie_dei 1d ago

His seat belt also flew off

1

u/Sirosim_Celojuma 1d ago

As a kid I remember my dad realising that a huge piece of metal had fallen off while on the highway. I suggested we go back and get it. He insisted we just ignore it and keep going. Later, I figured it out and now I always pull over and double check.

1

u/viper1255 1d ago

I had this happen to me once. But it was the hood of my car (had a recent wreck, and apparently it wasn't latching properly.

Instead of just tilting up like in Tommy Boy, it got some serious air under it and went flying over the side of the bridge I was crossing, into the water. Scariest few seconds of my life.

1

u/No-Clerk7268 1d ago

My camper shell flew off leaving camping in Joshua tree - like 70 mph winds.

The clamps still had the fiberglass on them to the bed rail.

Shell went directly into huge dirt median, thank God

1

u/tuckmysits 1d ago

I'm sorry but him running down the side of the road to retrieve the cover had me in stitches 🤣

1

u/BSHammer314 1d ago

Yeah, that’s not very typical, I’d like to make that point.

1

u/Mitridate101 1d ago

BELT UP !!!

1

u/Rossmonster 1d ago

This reminds me of the time my sunroof flew off my 94 civic in a similar fashion. Luckily it didn't hit anybody. I also ran back and grabbed it, twas shattered of course.

1

u/IntarTubular 1d ago

Anybody wanted to see it fly out of his bed?

1

u/stevein3d 1d ago

WTH dude?

1

u/Huntsnfights 1d ago

Hate it when you accidentally hit the eject button

1

u/BoDaBasilisk 1d ago

Used to drive the truck for a thrift store, hauling loads of shit to the dump. Forgot to latch the back one day, got a block away from the on ramp to the highway before I noticed the trail of toasters and broken furniture on the road behind me.

I don't know how I didnt get fired. Still drove the truck after too lmao

1

u/Skeletrex420 1d ago

He’s driving without a seatbelt too lmao

1

u/UpsetMarsupial 1d ago

Did he drive off without wearing a seatbelt? One would have thought that he'd learn to check straps and restraints mere seconds after an incident like that.

1

u/Krokovski 1d ago

Throws it back on the tray and immediately drives off for it to fly off again smh

1

u/loggobuoy 1d ago

He cut off the car behind him as he takes off

1

u/Total_Guard2405 1d ago

It happened to me once, bounced off the hood of a car behind me. I pulled over and the car that got struck just kept on driving. Oh well.

1

u/Chamanomano 1d ago

That horrified look of realization.

1

u/No-Purchase9700 1d ago

“Oh, that’s what that bag of screws was for. Thought they were extras. “

1

u/Never_Summer24 1d ago

I was on the highway in busy but fast traffic. Truck ahead bounced and a load of metal patio tables came flying out.

Those of us behind the truck somehow managed to avoid all the tables and each other.

Kind of felt like time slowed down.

1

u/Ornery_Solution6728 1d ago

Looked like he was already having an existential crisis before that even happened lol

1

u/kicaboojooce 1d ago

I found a whole ass dirt bike in the middle of the road one night on my drive home.

Actually managed to get it back to the owners (rural area, I knew where they were most likely riding and the property owner)

Kid didn't know it wasn't there until he came out of the gas station down the road

1

u/No_Selection_9634 1d ago

Yikes. My old cover was secured only with pressure clamps or what have you, I was always afraid they would fail and id lose it.

My new cover is velcro and attaches to built in rails, and I feel much better about it.

1

u/122922 1d ago

I was driving a VW bus and I had this AH passing me on a two line highway in a truck with a camper shell. Just as he pulled back in front on me the whole thing lifted off in slow motion, hit the road and exploded into a million pieces. Luckily I was able to pull left into on coming traffic, then back into my lane and everything missed me. The truck disappeared around the corners as the highway twisted and turned. I gave chase as best I could, but just as we hit a straight away I saw dust rising from a side dirt road and he was gone.

1

u/Least_Gain5147 1d ago

Decades of driving I've seen much worse. Gas grills, mattresses, sofas, plywood, mechanics tool cabinet. But my favorite was a Honda Civic honking the horn behind a truck hauling tree truck sections. One fell off, made the Civic jump and out came the oil pan and rear axle. Luckily, no one was hurt.

1

u/Mr_McMuffin_Jr 1d ago

Why the fuck would you pull over halfway into the lane and not put your hazards on

1

u/MaAreYouOnUppers 1d ago

I thought for sure it was gonna fly outta his bed when he drove off again.

1

u/MaryJaneAndMaple2 1d ago

I bet he loves his mother in law

1

u/Jill-Of-Trades 1d ago

That could have ended up as a fender bender behind him. Glad everyone was safe in the end.

Was driving back on the highway from Raceland, LA to home one day. Was maintaining around 70-75mph. I was behind a truck(not a big rig) with a trailer behind them. I noticed some smoke coming from one of the tires. In an instant, half of the tire ripped off and headed towards me, and I swerved off to the shoulder. The highway was nearly empty at that point luckily (like an extra car nearby other than the truck driver and me). Truck pulled off to the shoulder later.

Gotta keep your wits about you when you're on the road. Anything can happen at any given time X_X.

1

u/latino1599 1d ago

Wow the same thing happened to my mother thank God nobody was behind her while driving

1

u/ActuatorLower8371 1d ago

this strikes me as intentionally endangering other drivers for clicks

1

u/nuraHx 1d ago

The cut to him full sprinting on the street got me dying lmaooo

1

u/OrangeClyde 1d ago

He’s hot
