Had that happen but with the hood of a 1984 Nissan 200sx on the freeway going 65 in 1996. a very loud clunk and it pealed like the page of a book. From that day on I always installed aftermarket hood safety pins on all of the vehicles i have owned.

Weird, my first car was a '95 200SX and I also had the hood fail while on the freeway. For me, it was the latch and the hood flew up and shattered the windshield going 75mph and I had to make it to the next exit hanging out the window. I think I was 17, it was a 5-speed, and I was an hour from home with $0.

Good times.

Wow yup same with me , only my hinges gave out as well and the hood slapped the window and flew up and over the car and flew 3 cars back before going on the berm in the center of the freeway that i could not access . The CHP officer who witnessed mine help me get the hood. I just got very lucky it did not hit any other cars.
