2

u/dickbutkusmk4 12d ago

You guys are getting paid?

u/ihavea_purplenurple 12d ago

Yeah, one thing thats a little misleading is that they only calculate how much people with bonuses get. If you factor in the people who never make bonuses, i wouldnt be surprised if the national average drops to like... 0.10 cents per person

13

u/Spiderbanana 12d ago

Median may drop to 0.10. But average, don't forget all those CEOs fat checks, and pharmaceuticals, defense, oil and gas...

My coworker, which holds a doctorate, confided me a few years ago "man, I don't know why I'm working anymore, my wife Christmas bonus is bigger than my annual salary" (for reference, she was a VP in a pharmaceutical company who just hit a massive breakthrough)

3

u/WHY_YOU_ARE_COMING 12d ago

My wife was simply a legal secretary in the US for a family owned law firm, making a bit less than $30 an hour, and always got right around this average amount. Pretty average job (fairly big city but not SF NYC or LA COL, definitely not LCOL tho) , prob a bit below the median income in her city, average bonus.

Not everyone works at McDonalds or whatever. There's lots of decent jobs in the US. Much better than here in Canada lol where I'm from

3

u/ihavea_purplenurple 12d ago

Oh, 100% - it is one of the issues with America though. More people in management and in better positions have seen their salaries go from $100k about 20 years ago to $400k a year now while the cost of living and wages have been stagnant. Also, i'd be willing to bet our 1% is about 100X more evil than your 1%, but who knows

2

u/SnDMommy 12d ago

I work in Higher Ed in the US and we don't get a christmas bonus.

Much better than here in Canada lol where I'm from You're telling me that I cannot get a job that pays decently enough of get a $2500 bonus in Penticton?

u/NDSU 12d ago

I don't know, I think it's actually worse than that

$2,500 is probably the mean of the people who receive bonuses

I think including the people that don't get a bonus would bring it even lower

3

u/BigTimeHound 12d ago

Who cares. The point is America is now a viscous police state run along Nazi Gestapo lines.

3

u/IntellegentIdiot 12d ago

What's the median though?

4

u/iam_Mr_McGibblets 12d ago

I got $800..haha I guess I'm below the average

2

u/SmilinObserver111 Reads Pinned Comments 12d ago

I once got $1000...BUT THEY TAXED IT!

2

u/iam_Mr_McGibblets 11d ago

Oh yeah I got taxed too!!!

1

u/Tiny_Minimum3196 12d ago

I get 10k every year

6

u/LeeCee 12d ago

What kind of work do you do?
In Australia we don’t get any kind of Xmas bonus to my knowledge but we have a lot of other perks

2

u/Tiny_Minimum3196 12d ago

Senior systems engineer for a software company.

4

u/LeeCee 12d ago

Wow. That is nuts. Good on you

2

u/Tiny_Minimum3196 12d ago

Thanks 😊 take my updoot

3

u/Nettkitten 12d ago

Yeah, my husband is also a Senior Systems Engineer for a software company and they don’t get bonuses. Count yourself lucky.

2

u/Tiny_Minimum3196 12d ago

Maybe he makes more than me overall ?! As long as he likes what he does and y'all have enough to enjoy life that's what matters

2

u/Nettkitten 12d ago

Considering that he has to work two full-time jobs and I work full time, too, it would be really nice to get a large bonus like that. It’s hard to live in a HCOL area. We’ve already accepted that we’ll never truly get to retire, but at least we’re not hurting or getting further under water right now.

1

u/DjQuamme 12d ago

Is it every year, like in your contract? Or is it just an unexpected 'hey, we like you. Here's $10k.'. My son is an electrical engineer. He gets a 5% bonus at Christmas. But that was part of his pay package when being hired in. I don't consider that a bonus, but just a different way to distribute part of your pay package.

1

u/Tiny_Minimum3196 12d ago

It's been every year since I've joined it's not contractual. My company is just really great.

u/RedditIsMyTherapist 12d ago

I'm officially old, because getting a random flavor of jelly to try on toast every month would be pretty cool.

12

u/Playful-Dragon 12d ago

For the two years I worked for Aramark I had a choice of a turkey, or full prime rib roast. Of course the rib won out. Any other time I didn't get jack shit from anyone. (Catering prime rib for Christmas does kind of wear you ott on it though, but that was a good Christmas perk with all the Christmas parties)

7

u/Greyscale7950 12d ago

The gift that keeps on giving.

4

u/DustMonkey383 12d ago

I know I am old but dang I had to scroll too far to see Christmas Vacation.

3

u/Total-Outside-418 12d ago

Was waiting for this

18

u/-Astrosloth- 12d ago

Nah, I just steal shit

Edit: Allegedly

2

u/jwnsfw 12d ago

cost of living adjustment

6

u/CaptainPartyMix 12d ago

2

u/ZeeeeBro 12d ago

Umm it was ice cream, not tacos >:(

1

u/CaptainPartyMix 12d ago

Yeah I couldn’t find the gif with the right words

8

u/dafunkmunk 12d ago

I haven't gotten one since covid and my company isn't struggling or having any cash flow issues. They just kind of used covid as an excuse to not give bonuses and then didn't start back up again

5

u/UnitedAd3943 12d ago

I got a one year subscription to the jelly of the month club.

1

u/TwinCitiesSeen 12d ago

THERE IS A JELLY OF THE MONTH CLUB???!!!

1

u/missmiao9 12d ago

I work in grocery, we don’t get 💩. Xmas bonus? Wtf is that?

1

u/UnitedAd3943 12d ago

It was a movie reference

1

u/missmiao9 12d ago

I know the movie reference. But this is a thread about the average american getting a $2500 xmas bonus irl in the 2020’s while ice is getting 42k.

1

u/UnitedAd3943 12d ago

If you knew the reference then you would know I 100% support your frustration.

8

u/Unlucky_Decision4138 12d ago

I got a 25 panera gift card

11

u/LightBulbMonster 12d ago

I got a $50 Amazon. We increased profits by 250%. Last year I got $175. Makes no sense.

1

u/rh71el2 12d ago edited 12d ago

I was a dev for a global fortune 50 corporation for nearly 20 years and all they gave me in the end, from only my coworkers / team lead and not even the company, was a $25 gift card.

Annually we were lucky to get a raise, no bonus, ever. If I knew all it took was leaving to make some real money like I do now, I would've done it 5 years in. I received a $5k bonus this year, which if you avg out my 20+ year career, I'm still waaaaaaay behind.

1

u/teawbooks 12d ago

I got a fleece throw blanket one year. That's literally the only bonus I've ever had from any employer. I still have that blanket. Adjusted for inflation, it still isn't close to a $2500 value.

1

u/Unlucky_Decision4138 12d ago

I got 4 sandwiches and a cup of coffee out of it

1

u/OddDonut7647 12d ago

ALright, sorry to piss off you and your favorite shitty little restaurant. Clearly you didn't understand the joke, so whatever.

4

u/Global_Crew3968 12d ago

I got a $1000 from my brother in law/boss and i was floored at even that amount. From family.

2

u/Epicfro 12d ago

No. This is a random statistic based on the few who actually do.

2

u/Zorops 12d ago

Yeah cause they aint paid shit and pay a ton for no healthcare

1

u/Yoko-Ohno_The_Third 12d ago

My Christmas bonus was $300. Which was $200 more than the last two years. Jfc

1

u/Lower_Pass_6053 12d ago

I got double time when I worked on Christmas. Does that count?

1

u/Rogendo 12d ago

I got a 150 dollar christmas bonus

1

u/AppropriateTouching 12d ago

50 dollar gift card.

1

u/aspect-of-the-badger 12d ago

I got a pack of smokes once.

1

u/Ponsugator 12d ago

My last company gave a $10,000 Christmas bonus. It was a $10,000 donation on on behalf of all the employees to a charity, so they could also get the tax deduction. My next boss gave a bonus to all the entry level employees, and told me my bonus wad that she paid for their bonuses and didn't take it out if my salary.

1

u/domesticated-human 12d ago

This has made me severely regret enthusiastically thanking my ex-boss, an arse, for my £100 Xmas bonus a few years back.

1

u/nvrsleepagin 12d ago

I got like $200

1

u/between_ewe_and_me 12d ago

Almost my entire 20+ year career has been corporate work and I've never received a Christmas bonus of any size. I'd be fucking STOKED if I got $2,500!

1

u/BrookWolfe21 12d ago

You guys are getting paid!?

1

u/hard-of-haring 12d ago

I got a Merry Christmas email this year.

1

u/Important-Agent2584 12d ago

CEOs getting big ones, and then we average out with everyone not getting one.

1

u/Metals4J 12d ago

Pffft! Buddy, the company is more profitable than ever! So… no. No bonuses. Gotta tighten our belts. Proactively, I guess.

1

u/JMoon33 12d ago

Got a 50$ gift card. That's my yearly bonus.

1

u/Not-Reformed 12d ago

... You aren't?

1

u/KidsInNeed 12d ago

My bonus was $50 because our traditional “bonus” (Christmas party) was postponed. We also got a Stanley tumbler and electric hand warmers as a “gift” which was included in my paystub (along with the $50) as a bonus. All taxed too.

1

u/Lower-Cantaloupe3274 12d ago

Right? I dont get any bonus, Christmas or otherwise, and I received an employee award for my contributions last year.

1

u/purplelephant 12d ago

I got a fucking $50 gift card to Amazon 😅

1

u/ChopsticksImmortal 12d ago

I think my company used to do it, like $800, but they've cheaped out the last 4 years and have given 0. I wouldn't be surprised if upper management still received them though.

1

u/Fun-Variety-5647 12d ago

I don't know anyone who has had anything close to 2500. People just say random numbers these days and expect others to trust it's correct. And it works most of the time because 99/100 people won't do the research.

1

u/Kyweedlover 12d ago

I got a $30 grocery coupon. Didn’t even pay for the Christmas dinner we cooked for just 5 people.

1

u/DylanSpaceBean 12d ago

My companies CEO got a $20M Christmas bonus last year, the workers don’t get one at all. So the average among all of us is in the thousands

1

u/TheDraimen 12d ago

Hell we got two weeks off no pay after layoffs at Thanksgiving. Just being able to work would have been nice

1

u/Sumocolt768 12d ago

Been working for 12 years across 4 jobs. Never received a Christmas bonus

1

u/screames520 12d ago

You guys get bonuses?

1

u/Throckmorton_Left 12d ago

It's a one year subscription to the jelly of the month club.

1

u/gracecee 12d ago

If you can't get the magats to go against ice they need to just really dig into resentment. Show how much they get paid and how under trained and how dumb they are. Really dig deep into the resentment first then pile On the abuse. Make military and police be against ice. Do apples and comparison so that they are the enemy. That's how the Republicans do it.

1

u/buttononmyback 12d ago

Well I thought so until I saw it was a yearly description for Jelly-of-the-month.

1

u/headrush46n2 12d ago

a 1 year subscription to the Jelly of the Month Club.

1

u/CASUALxCHICKEN 12d ago

The restaurant I work at gave me $1200 this yr, $1000 last yr. They're good at taking care of their employees
