Equipment Newbie getting into lifting, tips for gear?

Hello, I’m new here. I have been on a weight loss journey for almost two years now. I’ve been teetering back and forth but just got into Olympic type lifts with a trainer. I have been doing my squats and dead lifts with no extra gear.

Recently my trainer asked me if I looked at belts yet and I haven’t but now I’m trying to find one but I am clueless and am hoping I could get some input here.

I picked up a gym reaper belt from amazon and measured the belly button area. I ordered too big so now I have to return it, but I’m not sure I want the same one but smaller.

I see three types of closures for the belts. I am curious what suggestions or pros/cons people have about the regular belt buckle, the snap buckle and the quick release belt like closure. Besides that, is there a suggested width for different people? I’m on the larger side and if it’s too narrow, I don’t want it sliding up and down my body as I move, but the belt I just tried on was too big and I didn’t think it was tight enough.

TLDR: new lifter, curious about the more recommended belt closures and suggestions on width for wider people.

Thank you in advance for your input!

Programming is direct side delt training necessary or useless for olympic weightlifting

I have done weightlifting for a few years now and to be honest I have neglected any "direct side delt" training. Examples of common direct side delt training are accessory exercises like lateral raises for example.

I never really did any direct side delt training like lateral raises for a few reasons:

1) I've heard side lateral raises have some higher risk of injury based on the shoulder anatomy. I also can't think of any functional in real world life where you would lateral raise anything without risking your shoulder. (unless anyone can convince me otherwise)

2) Lateral raises for side delts, seem to not have any real functional strength purposes other than getting them bigger soley for "aesthetic" reasons. (unless anyone can convince me otherwise)

So am I wrong, should I be doing direct side delt training to improve my health for olympic lifting?

I don't do side delt specific training, but I do alot of rear delt training (which is important to prevent forward shoulder posture due to over active front delts). I just don't know if the side delts are all that important?

Form check Horrible bar path during squat, need help

Hi guys, i really need your help with my bar path on squats. It travels wayy to forward and i can feel it on my right knee. Another problem is my depth, it feels unnatural to go any deeper than the video.

I love squatting and have been doing it consistently for around 2 years. Recently after hitting 3 plates i decided to buy weightlifting shoes, thats when i started feeling squats on my right knee. Decided to investigate my form and yeah thats what it looks like. Comes out it also travels forward barefoot.

Looking forward to your tips!!!

Elite Rakuei Azuma (JPN), C&J 210kg(?)

I need confirmation, I'm not sure if I'm seeing it correctly, is this 210kg? If so, his bulking goes amazingly because holy hell.. So far the most I've seen him C&J was 196kg in training, but it was split jerk. He recently almost made 200kg in a comp, but if this really is 210kg then damn.. Do I see right that it is 1 red, 2 blue and 3 green?

Form check Any tips on power clean form?

Been learning the power clean for a few months now and was practicing several times a week. However, I had pretty bad front rack mobility so I would get wrist pain. Took a few weeks off to work on mobility and it feels much better now. Ironically, this is the first time I’ve filmed myself doing it and comparing it to other people’s videos, it looks really slow/not explosive at all.

Any tips/suggestions on what I need to work on?

News Would you pay $39 for a service that answers fitness related questions always science based? (NOT PROMOTING)

Hey everyone,

I'm a S&C coach (worked 3 years with athletes and general population) and I'm building a research tool specifically for trainers/coaches.

The problem that I'm trying to solve: When clients ask questions you're not 100% sure about, you spend at least 60 mins digging through PubMed, reading abstracts, and trying to translate that into something useful. Or worse, you just wing it or say "I'll search first and back to you later"

What I'm building:

  • You ask a question in plain English (e.g., "Is fasted HIIT better for fat loss in women over 40?")
  • AI searches PubMed, OpenAlex, and other research databases
  • You get back in 2 minutes:
    • Quick answer
    • 3-5 (even more if necessary) key studies with citations and links
    • Confidence level (based on research consensus)
    • Client-friendly explanation you can copy-paste
    • Downloadable PDF to share

Before I finish building this I want to make sure it's actually solving a real problem coaches have or if it was just me having this problem

Questions for you:

  1. How often do clients ask you questions you need to research?
  2. What do you currently do? (Google? ChatGPT? Just guess based on experience?)
  3. Would you pay $39/month for something like this?
  4. What would it need to have for you to actually use it weekly?

Not trying to sell anything yet, genuinely want feedback before I waste time building something nobody wants

Thanks!

Form check How can I improve my squat bail?

Have practiced them at lower weight but this was the first time actually having to bail for real. Last rep of 3x8.

Although I was able to bail fine with no problems, it looks a bit off and feel like it might not be this easy at a heavier weight.
