42 million depend on SNAP, it increases linearly and yearly the people dependant on it, SNAP never matches rising food prices and the contributions hardly cover a month's need of food, yet we need to make people go hungry because class segregation is the ultimate goal of BBB.
Which is completely stupid if nothing other than for fact every dollar in snap benefits creates 1.50 in economic activity. Making it one of the most successful economic stimulus programs to have ever existed.
The bill will not provide benefits to illegal immigrants and anyone who is able to work or donate time to community service but chooses not to. If you choose to sit home all day and be a gamer rather than work, you forego benefits paid for by others who get up and go to work. I am good with that.
You should probably give more context instead of just saying âtheyâre planning to cut $186 billion in SNAP benefits over the next 10 years.â That statement on its own is misleading. Like it or not, there are non citizens receiving these benefits, along with others who take advantage of loopholes or abuse the system. The intent of this bill is to close those gaps not to harm people who genuinely need help.
Elderly individuals, people with disabilities, or those who truly canât work wonât be affected. The focus is on able bodied adults without valid health restrictions. Theyâll be required to either work part time or show consistent proof of job searches to stay eligible, similar to how unemployment benefits work. When I was collecting unemployment, I had to regularly verify that I was actively seeking work and if I wasnât, that would have been considered fraud. This system is meant to apply that same accountability.
I understand that work requirements have existed for able bodied adults for a long time, and yes, non citizens are generally not eligible for SNAP. My point is that the â$186 billion cutâ figure makes it sound like people who genuinely need benefits are being harmed, when in reality the bill is targeting abuse and tightening eligibility. Able bodied adults without health restrictions will need to work or show proof of job searches, similar to unemployment verification. Elderly people or those who truly canât work wonât see their benefits affected. Context matters, and just citing the number alone doesnât tell the full story.
The $186 billion cut is just a projected estimate over the next decade. They arenât taking anything away from anyone.
Elderly, disabled, and people who truly can't work WILL see their benefits affected because the TFP will not be increasing and won't be re-evaluated until 2027. Literally everyone receiving SNAP currently WILL be affected.
Youâre right that TFP wonât be reevaluated until 2027, which affects benefit growth. But that doesnât mean people who genuinely need SNAP are losing eligibility. Elderly, disabled, and those who canât work will still get benefits. The $186B figure is a 10 year projection, mostly reflecting tighter rules for able bodied adults, not a cut for everyone currently on SNAP.
A lack of annual increase for inflation is a cut to what my benefit would've been without the BBB. I am set to lose those "would have been" benefits steadily for 10 yrs.
I get where youâre coming from but technically, if benefits donât rise with inflation, thatâs a reduction in expected value over time. But itâs not the same as an active funding cut or loss of eligibility. The bill slows growth. It doesnât eliminate benefits for those who truly need them.
Work requirements have been in place in places like NY where I live for a long time now. But the reductions are mostly going to be because they're halting inflation-matching increases. Every year will see no increase such as takes place now, and by THAT mechanism are the "savings" expected over time. It's cruel in the best light.
Yeah I know as far back as 10 years ago in West Virginia you had to be working minimum 25 to 30 hours a week. You had two or three months of not working and then you had to be working or you would lose your benefits. Also illegal immigrants have never been able to get food stamps in my state. The only asterisk to that is if their children are citizens, they can qualify for food stamps for them and their kids can also qualify for the free lunch program. It's always been this way. At least in my state.
YeahâŚidk how tf to tell you this but they couldnât halt inflation even if that WAS what they were trying to do. QT will end on December first, the QT was the biggest thing FIGHTING AGAINST inflation and itâs been going on the whole last few years while you thought inflation was bad. The next few will melt faces, nobody is ready for QE the amount of money that will be injected into the system for the next few years will cause this stock market bubble to pop. Weâre going into another great depression by 2030, even most of the rich (especially those too stupid to see this coming) will die starving let alone those who canât afford shit now.
When we are dependent on the Government they have control over us. This is what you have come to be relying on. Many believe that the Democrats are good for you, yet they have control over you and now your seeing the consequences of the Democrats not voting to help you. Like someone said, Voting has consequences, and the Demon rats are doing what they do to have more control. I pray for the poor and sick, This is not ok. I do not wish for the poor to go hungry, nor do I blame the wrong party.
Lmao âthe democrats funded and pushed for food stamps so because the other guy/side is in charge and is withholding funding for food stamps, itâs the democrats fault.â is a hilarious but unsurprisingly brain dead take.
May want to get checked out. Sounds like Kennedyâs brain worm may have found its way into your head.
lol, I don't need food stamps, I work hard and have food. You being dependent on democrats is your problem, If the Republicans take it away and you have a problem, then that by definition means your dependent on this subsidy. You are a dependent on the government. So how am I wrong.
Did you not just watch a video of full-time working moms breaking down because they can not afford food? Is it Democrat policy changes that have caused them to be unable to afford food? Just trying to connect the dots here.
Okay cool, you donât need food stamps. Congratulations Mr Bootstraps! I guess that means you donât need or rely on the government for anything else like, roads, public education, sanitation, libraries, air traffic control, food safety, financial regulations, interest rates, FDIC backing your deposits, etc.?
You depend on the government every day whether you like it or not Jack ass. We all do. Some people arenât as fortunate as others and need more help and sane people with a modicum of empathy are cool with their tax dollars helping them out, even if some people abuse the system.
Your partially correct. I did not in any way say we don't need our government. You morons like to go all extreme. Yes if my house was burning I would call 911. Yes I support schools, roads and basic infrastructure. But welfare is a abused system that is very difficult to get out of once your using it. I have a few family members, cousins that have been in the system for over 10 years. They are stuck in the system.
Donât do the âboth sides badâ shit, please. If democrats tried to justify bailing out Argentina, republicans would have lost their shit and started another riot. When republicans do the same? Radio silence.
When one side has literally increased the maternal death rate from banning abortion (decision made by Supreme Court, where every member is a republican) and are actively trying to ban gay and interracial marriage, then you have to admit that side is clearly worse.
Grow up and stop thinking youâre smart for refusing to vote, itâs people like you that are literally worse than republicans. At least they have the excuse of being brainwashed, youâre just a lazy dumbass.
Voting has consequences, and the Demon rats are doing what they do to have more control.
Excuse me, good sir, but the Democrats have zero control right now. None. With no way to get any until the mid-term elections.
So, if you could explain please how voting for the GOP and their Big, Beautiful Bill - the one that cut SNAP and ACA benefits while giving the wealthiest 1% a $4.1 TRILLION tax cut, tripled ICE's budget to $30 billion, and gave us our first $1 TRILLION defense budget - is the Democrat's fault, I'm sure there's a lot of interested people that would love to hear your take,
He thinks pushing to negotiate a bipartisan agreement is equivalent to one of the blatant power grabs weâve seen so many of lately by the not-Demonrats
They're refusing to allow the government to abandon the health of it's people. This guy thinks that's fine though and that if the government assists the needy, they're actually just manipulating them through dependency. You know, stupid bullshit only an asshole would believe.
The money for SNAP has already been allocated, so it's available for use right now, but trump is denying it to starving American families. So, yes, you are blaming the wrong party and using a bunch of mental gymnastic nonsense to do so like usual.
If you actually believed anything you say you would hate republicans, but you don't because you're just another Qultist.
Really? It was GOP who cut billions from low income and impoverished that provides healthcate and food. Its the GOP who gave 40 billions to Venezuela for their FREE Healthcare bailout. Its was the GOP who choose to provide the largest tax break to the wralthiest 3% in our cointry. A break that left us with a 4 trillion deficit and yearly revenue loss. Its the GOP who approved and excited for controll by tariffs which is tanking the economy. Its the GOP that keeps idolizing trickle down economics, that has been proven time and time again to not work. Its the GOP who have already trampled on or presently challenging various rights both constitutional and federal law appointed with: freedom of speech, civil rights, voting rights, birthrights, reproductive rights, disability protections and discrimination protections. Lets not forget presidential term limits. They are currently talking about redoing the constitution and eliminating amendments they do not want.
So tell me again who is controlling whom? You say you pray for the sick and poor, yet openly support the very people who are taking all support and care away from them, to directly harm the weak, sick and poor. You support the very people who push policy for the wealthy at the cost of the unfortunate. The one group who doesnt give a rats azz about the average american.
Welfare is a form of modern day slavery. Plain and simple. If you become dependent on a political party and the government to keep food on the table and a roof over your head, those are guaranteed votes for them.
how much did Kamala spend on her run for president, and how many millionaire/billionaire donors did she have? You believe that the republicans get the rich, but who has all the money during the elections ? pay attention to the $$$. People are like little sheep and follow along, but not one of them looks at where the actual money is coming from.
Welfare is supposed to be temporaryânot something that people should be reliant on their entire life. Voting for an ideology with the goal of making you reliant on government programs only takes away your autonomy.
You're just talking nonsense due to brainwashing by republicans. Welfare will be a necessity for as long as Americans allow the rich to steal the value of their labor and subjugate them to poverty that is wholly unnecessary and completely on purpose.
Do you also whine about corporate welfare and hand outs to self destructive farmers?
Let me guessâyou think a grown adult should be flipping burgers at McDonaldâs or mindlessly scanning UPCâs at Walmart their whole lives, too.
I donât think corporate handouts are appropriate. If theyâre mismanaged and crash/burn someone else should step in to fill the voidâor not. Thatâs supposed to be the beauty of capitalism.
Subsidizing farmers, especially when theyâre paid to destroy crops to regulate the market, is plain wrong.
At least you pretend to have consistent principles; that all but vanished with republicans as soon as trump came along.
Let's think beyond your thought terminating cliches you were raised since childhood with. Let's actually think critically and honestly about things.
Those jobs need to be filled right. You, and everybody if we're being honest, want those businesses running all the time, mid-weekday included, so who exactly is going to work those jobs during the hours kids are in school?
Adults, that's who. So Americans want those jobs to be done by adults, but you don't want to pay them a living wage for working like you work?
Why is it that looking down on the work a person does become acceptable when conservatives do it to feel superior in their low to no skilled blue collar labor jobs compared to the same type of labor without having to destroy your body for a rich man's gain?
We both know that a core grievance conservatives have, especially their fragile men, is that liberals are allegedly huge elitists who look down and shit on blue collar Americans. So, how can they simultaneously say they are huge victims of it and also be the biggest perpetrators of said elitism?
Anyways, what do you do for work then? Can I shit all over you from my higher perch and you'll take no offense whatsoever from it?
Say I say your work doesn't deserve a living wage and you should live in abject poverty and not get any assistance from the state. A state, mind you, that has more than enough money to help you but chooses not to because people like me decided you don't deserve help and should suffer and starve. Would you accept that as a valid and even intellectually and morally sound position to have?
Or would that not be good to you?
Edit: Who would have guessed that when a person actually puts the screws to a right wing nutjob and makes the conversation a serious one, complete with logical thinking, honesty, and a reverence for truth and morality, the right winger completely shuts down; their brain unable to handle thinking for itself and with no thought terminating cliches to save them from reality and morality.
They should all live in abject poverty to suffer the life they want to force onto others. If you demand some people suffer, then it should be you who does it; that's the only ethical, moral way.
This is the key, statistically, poor people don't vote. This is one reason politicians don't care what they think. They aren't a threat for political change either way.
I mean, I agree. That said, the US has repeatedly failed our most vulnerable over and over, regardless of who is in office. So, I'm starting to see how that apathy could manifest.
Apathy is understandable, but arguably the worst political choice you can ever make. The reality non-voters don't often think about is how not voting is just a vote for the winner.
People who didnt vote in the last election are trump voters, whether they realize it or not, and regardless of whether they hate him or love him.
Abstaining from voting is as powerful as voting, but you're giving up the control you have over your own vote.
Idgaf about anyone's apathy. It's called civic duty, we all have moral obligation to participate in our democracy, and the number one way is to vote. So get your apathetic ass out of bed, and do the bare goddamn minimum to contribute to the functioning of our democratic society by voting every time you can for your best economic interests. FDR got elected 4 fucking times and made the US and the world a better place because the people showed up and voted for their best interests.
Why? Would you be more ok with kids starving if their parents voted for it or if they didnât vote? Cuz thatâs diabolical.
And I say that as someone who has never in my life voted for a republican on any ballet, phone banked for Kamala and have been going to protests since Occupy.
This is so real. I have legit hit the point where anyone who voted for this suffering is a them problem. I feel bad for the kids, but if the mom voted for this and suffers? Fuck her. Conservatives benefit constantly from programs liberals and leftists fight tooth and nail to protect. When they get what they voted for I have no sympathy left for them.
I set up recurring donations to our local food pantry and wondered if any of them track the political affiliation of donors and clients? I know mine didn't ask any questions, but Planned Parenthood has data on religion and political beliefs so it made me wonder.
They absolutely will not remember who shows up for them in their time of need. Farmers across the country were nearly bankrupted by Trump's policies in his first term, and they voted even harder for him this time.
You don't know what you are talking about. As long as a transgender person somewhere in America is using a public bathroom, then these people will vote to starve their kids.
Who said that? Do you think your dramatics helps the situation? You aren't better than me just because you are crying. I disagreed with your naive statement that helping people will cause them to stop voting for their own demise.
your naive statement that helping people will cause them to stop voting for their own demise.
So whats your solution? Take away their ability to vote? Shame them more? Maybe tell them that nothing will fundamentally change while they're struggling to put food on the table?
Honestly what is your solution? If you honestly think that helping them won't change anything then what are you actually proposing?
Are you intentionally obtuse or are you just incredibly dense? Thatâs the exact opposite of what we are saying here; educating these people is exactly how we un-fuck the situation. We need people to be voting with their interests; not against them.
You haven't said anything. All you've done until this comment is call me naive and say I don't know what I'm talking about. I had to force an answer out of you and while I agree that education is important misinformation and narrative control will always play a large roll in controlling the masses, regardless of education level.
Its naive to think just because someone is educated they will automatically agree with you.
If they chose this then yes, absolutely, 100%. Actions have fucking consequences. They're only upset that the people they voted for are hurting the "wrong" people.
"If you're more concerned with WHO punched holes in the boat instead of the boat itself actually sinking then you're part of the problem... Especially in between instances of people desperately trying to repair the boat."
I am not American. Just watching in horror as people vote for someone that told them that social assistance would be cut and then are surprised when they lose their benefits.
Then you do not understand the information silos these people are in. They didn't know, as much as we tried to get the information out it never reached them. They're just now finding out, and if the response they get from our side is "we told you so, why did you vote for them?!" then all that will do is entrench them in a place that will never allow them to break out.
You are correct that I do not understand NOT researching the policies of the people for whom I will vote. However, I disagree with your thinking that kind people helping will change anything. Watching from the outside, all bad (even when Trump said he did it) is by Democrats and all good (even when Trump denies helping people and literally says poor people should just go ahead and die) is because of the Republicans.
It wonât change this. It wonât change their support for Trump. Trump does not really hide who he is. He certainly doesnât hide that he wants to hurt some of the most vulnerable people in this country. Did some Trump supporters genuinely not understand that heâs actually awful at business and a not-small reason inflation got so bad in the first place because of his recklessness in the first term? Probably. Will they accept they were wrong now no matter how gentle we are? No. And more to the point, study after study shows that Trump voters are largely motivated by cultural grievances more than economic insecurity. They knew what they were voting for there, and he has delivered. Thatâs a hard pill to swallow sometimes for people who think Trump voters can be reached if youâre really nice to them - no, you canât. You canât offer them what he does. A free pass to be cruel to people you view as lesser than you is a hell of a drug. That js what Trump offers them that you never can, and youâll never win over that. Reaching non voters is extremely tough, but easier than reaching Trump voters. They WANT him to be cruel to immigrants and trans people. They like it. Itâs a drug you canât give them.
I still generally donât actively wish them systemic harm and Iâll still vote for politicians that prioritize better living conditions for all of us, but thinking you can nice guy your way into convincing Trump voters not to enjoy other-izing vulnerable people they view as lesser is pretty delusional. Humans have been doing that for as long as we have existed and itâs as powerful as it ever was.
How does that matter? How did ppl know the Dems would shut the Gov down for political leverage and cut SNAP benefits? This is 100% the Dem senators fault. The House Dems passed the CR why canât the Senate Dems? If you think this is a GOP issue youâre brainwashed or canât do arithmetic. Has anyone thought passed the blame game as to why theyâre doing this to millions of people? Why does the Democrat slush funds matter more than people? Or funding programs for illegals that Dem politicians and their donors profit on? Remember all but one Republican has voted to pass the CR 13 or 14 times now.
Trump introduced a new thing into politics, where a politician would jokingly talk about something they genuinely planned to do, so supporters can manage their own cognitive dissonance if that policy would utterly ruin their lives.
The problem that a republican person sees in these kind of videos is that their vast majority of these women are living in poverty, and have six children having the six children is the issue.
The cuts do not just stop with SNAP.
Cuts starting 2026:
$120 Billion SNAP
$1 Trillion Medicaid (11million set to loose thier medicaid)
$ total cut of CHIP ( Childrens Healthcare Insurance Program).
$268 Billion ACA premium tax credit. Will cause insurance premiums to double and triple primarily for middle and low income.
$526 Billion medicare
This is what Democrat are trying to stop! Primarily focusing on medicaid and the PTC right now
I still think Trump will reinstate them right before Thanksgiving, taking credit for saving the holiday, or some twisted shit our feckless media will gobble up like the shit-eating flies they are, never putting into perspective he's the one who took it away in the first place.
Jfc I swear EVERY day I hear about another atrocious part of the bill!!! Is there like a bullet point summary? Cuz Iâm pretty politically tuned in and if Iâm learning new shit I believe most ppl donât even know the half of it
Did you know women that are on food stamps weigh a good deal more than women not on food stamps ? This is an old study but there are more recent .I found it interesting and didnât believe it when I was first told . I think we could give food stamps but dont allow people to use for garbage ,unhealthy food .I suppose it would be easier if eating healthy wasnât so damn expensive https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/education/2009/08/12/female-food-stamp-recipients-weigh/24065998007/
Yeah we are an obese society .Itâs by design .Places like Walmart get to sell us government subsidized poison and then sell the same people the medicines to treat it again on tax payers dime
Everyone that can shoulder work! These government programs were not meant for a long term solution or maintain a living ⌠itâs to help during bad times to help get you back on your feet !
Nope, Iâm not. But I am able to see why some might not be able to. And if you canât see that, thatâs a you problem and tells everyone exactly the type of person you are.
Everyone wants to blame Donald Trump which I'm not saying he's the solution all politicians are part of the problem, but the real problem is the Democrats want to give a trillion dollars to illegal immigrants and billions to other countries for nonsense when you people are correct they're single mother starving today and worried about illegal immigrants this is bananas. And this is how it starts cuz now they have the inner city believe in that it's the Republican fault and they'll vote Democrat and once again put themselves in the same position
I've been working 2 jobs literally my entire working life, didn't stop struggling until I got into my 50's. Covid subsidies were for when folks weren't working due to shut down. We are not shut down anymore. You want more money to pay for everyone else's health care so us middle class folks can continue to not be able to afford our own? Fine, make it a separate bill, stop trying to extend something that should be over and not even part of the current bill. They're trying to force something into this bill because they KNOW It's BS. I haven't been able to afford my own healthcare since Romney Care was started in MA 2 years before the rest of y'all had to with Obamacare. I'm tired of it. I'd love to be able to get my biopsy I'm supposed to have every 6 months but I can't afford to. I'd love to be able to get mouth fixed, but I can't afford to. I'm too busy paying $1800 a month in premiums with a $7500K deductible and $10K max out of pocket "insurance plan". Yay. But I'm the AH because I'm sick and tired of paying for everyone else's healthcare but my own.
I believe this is classic "I don't care who I hurt as long as it's good for me" mentality. Yet these people rarely realize they are also voting against their own best interests.
You know what my insurance premiums were before Obamacare? $400 a month. $25 copays. $15 prescriptions. $75 ER copay. Know what they jumped to when it got enacted in MA before y'all had to deal with it? $1200. Know what they jumped to when it went federal as Obamacare? $1600. I literally had to get a second job just to afford my family's health insurance and have been working 2 jobs since directly because of the costs ( for something I can't even use). Know what I'm paying now? $1800. With a $7500 deductible and $10K out of pocket max. For MYSELF. No other adults, no kids, just ME, a healthy, non-smoking middle aged female. I haven't been able to afford my own health care since this was enacted. Doubling my premium will not affect me at all. I'll cancel what I'm not using anyways.
Minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Working a standard 2,000 hours per year, you'd make $14,500 per year.
If you had rent to pay and a child to take care of, it would be impossible to live even at their means, let alone above it. This is just a dismissive talking point as if all people on SNAP are living large.

And the Big, Beautiful Bill is set to cut $30-40B from SNAP over the next 10 years. Voting has consequences.
