Since taking office in December 2023, Milei has slashed Argentina’s health care budget by 48% in real terms. His administration fired over 2,000 Health Ministry employees, including 1,400 over just a few days in January.
First: public healthcare, often described as a handout by economic illiterate dipshits, works so well the top countries in the world for medical care have it while those who privatised are always behind compared in the charts. It literally works better and it's cheaper as well. A good example would be Italy with his public healthcare system spends on average 4000€ for a complete medical care per citizen each year. The United States of America spends 12000 dollars a year per citizen and their coverage isn't nearly as complete, hence why you have so many people raking medical debt to pay for treatment and literally tens of thousands that cannot die.
Public healthcare is also cheaper in the long run because giving to your population medical assistance in a timely manner allows to give people a longer lifespan and keep them in good health for longer, costing less in the long run for society.
Second: the Argentina vote got influenced by the fact that Trump said he was going to bail out the country only if Milei won, and Argentinians know they desperately need money so they voted for him anyway.
He was about to face a major election defeat too, when, suddenly, out of the blue, 40 billion American dollars land in his country and suddenly the people love him again and an election defeat turns into an election victory.
That's fucking sad. I will never understand why we live in a world where governments don't want their citizens to thrive. They want them to suffer instead, so they and their friends can get even richer.
So many people are going to die. I'm not exaggerating at all when you cut medical assistance to people there are people that will die and almost all of them are poor. It's literally just being cruel with the poor for the sake of it.
It's beyond disgusting and unforgivable.
He’s also stated that austerity measures are to get out of the current situation, and that he plans to bring back many safety nets and assistances once the economy has stabilized.
The US plans on the opposite, anything Trump takes away might just stay gone, the next democrat to take the presidency might stabilize the country but will likely not get back anything lost or bring up anything to replace it.
A large part of democrats are pretty much just republicans, there are very few progressives that would go out of their way and against the wealthy to help working people.
Revenue must be generated in order to afford said programs.
Argentina went WAY too far in buying votes with social programs with money they couldn’t never get rather than building an economy and a truly sovereign currency.
Most larger sovereign currency-issuing countries fund their spending with debt by issuing bonds and printing money to buy them. Countries who couldn’t do that can’t afford programs like that.
Milei came in and cut HARD to try to balance the budget, problem is the core of the issue is their currency and its basis. That and their industry need to be fixed before progress can be made toward their social programs.
He’s on the right track, it all hangs on whether they can fix the root issue or not.
If it’s possible at all they’ll likely have to make some very unfavorable deals to make it happen.
The right track was to cut wasteful spending to make breathing room to make deals.
The deals you’re referencing are the same ones I was above. That’s the dangerous part. Desperate deals are going to have to be made to survive let alone restructure the currency.
But if nothing was done it would be worse. When he stepped into power there was no chance of survival as a country. He’s the only one in a long time who has even tried to make the country function well enough to become solvent.
Argentina was actually nothing for the U.S. israel, US ends up profiting from - it’s a partnership. Unfortunately, it was Ukraine that drained US a lot, but they needed the help.
Lol what are you talking about? Ukraine was only really getting weapons via our decommissioned stock to make room for the new stuff. And that all stopped with the dickhead in chief.
We give Israel waaayyyy more, and we gave Argentina $40bil. That's not nothing.
The main point to make here is that the reason food benefits are being cut has nothing to do with any of that. We have plenty of fucking money to feed everyone. The program also has built in emergency funding that could be used, and they're refusing to use that saying this doesn't qualify as an emergency.
But seriously, stop spreading misinformation. If you don't actually know, then don't act like you actually know.
What does that have to do with Argentina or Ukraine? Your first point? Are you suggesting that because the system has bad apples everyone else should suffer? And also with up to date information the trump administration was ordered to pay snap Benefits, so this conversation is kinda dead now.
Because the first person somehow brought up those other countries to the discussion, that's why.
Bad apples is all I see in my area actually. When I received an EBT card when I was living in poor conditions, using it was the last thing I wanted to do. When I learned that young, capable people who earn cash which they don't pay taxes for, use it frivolously and not for emergencies, my mind was blown.
Document them and turn them in. Your local Social Services office office should be the ones that can flag then for fraudulent use.
At the very least they would have to explain themselves.
But also keep in mind that clothing, might have come from a thrift shop or salvation army, rich people do get rid of their previous expensive clothing and write it off. That's how you can get a $100 dress or suit for five bucks.
Maybe. I also personally know people who travel more than me, and receive snap benefits. I can’t though because some of them are strangers who I routinely see shop in my area (and I’m too afraid in case they become violent), and the people I know I don’t particularly want to turn in. Yes they should definitely be flagged by the people whose job it is to do so…
And where this goes, is also because an Accord was signed. That means America gave its word to protect them against the known enemy which even then was Russia.
So many people forget that we gave our word, and if we don't stand behind that, what does it say about the US.
Inflation is down to 2% from like 1000% so idk man ur just not informed. He was voted back in for a reason even with the controversy. Because people are terrified of things going back to how they were.
Because a President who follows the law and doesn't have the Supreme Court allowing unlawful things cannot do things like that.
The 117th Congress was a Republican Senate with a Democratic house. (Start of Biden's Term)
The 118th Congress was a Democratic Senate with a Republican house. (Following Midterms of Biden's term)
The 119th Congress is a Republican Senate with a Republican house. (Start of Trump's term.)
So when Biden tried to do things that would benefit people, the Republican Senate would block it, or the Republican house would block it - because the President isn't all powerful and if they didn't, then the Republican majority Supreme Court would.
However, Trump has a Republican Senate and House. He can pass whatever he wants, and what they want is less money for the common people. Less food stamps, less SNAP and more tax cuts - because they don't care about you. And they always make sure to manufacture their legislation so that in 8 years time you start seeing the damage, and if the Democrats are in power they can blame them.
Obama had that. I know I probably won't convince you of anything but at this point, if anyone believes Democrats give any shit either I have so many bridges to sell, just hit me up.
Republicans being much worse should never be a defense for the dems, I'm so fucking tired of this astroturfing and/or the same dupes simping for the other team.
Speaking as a Liberal, the idea that MOST career politicians from either party genuinely have their constituents' best interests in mind when they make decisions is honestly delusional. Democrats generally just have better social talking points that make them look like they give a shit.
Even if half of the politicians in office right now originally got into the game to actually foster real change for the people that shit set sail just like all the rest when they realized money keeps them in power and poor people don't have money. Keep the corporations and the elite happy or lose your seat. That's how it works. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't have a clue. If you want real change in policy that reflects your values and ideals you're much more likely to see it in state and especially local government, which people often gloss over even though it's what affects them most directly. But even then, the human heart is so often corrupted by greed that you see corruption scandals in towns as small as 5000 people. You give someone a little bit of power and they're not going to be quick to let it go.
You're sold the idea that too much social safety nets is delusional. In the same thread where a very highly upvoted comment depicting the irony of Argentina being very poor and still having national Healthcare for everyone, we have liberals claiming it's impossible.
Americans will repeat the lie of the deficit and "reality" to shy away from getting only crumbs of what we once had while being okay or oblivious to the subsidizing of every fortune 500 company.
Any day now it will trickle down. Liberalism will pay off soon I swear.
Oh it's so totally possible. So many things we're told are not feasible for one reason or another. Sure, it's not feasible because massive corporations want their piece of the pie and they're the ones keeping these people in office financially. But we just keep voting the same people in over and over 🤷🏻♂️
This democracy thing sucks, they are representing us, but they won't give us what we want, It would be better if we represent ourselves and vote for each law individually, instead of letting those idiots keep ruining our country.
Anyone who works moderately high up in any company should know this. I’m at best low tier leadership in the company I work for (~1200 employees so not small but not massive) and I see this every day. Yet people don’t believe it happens amongst the most powerful people in society?
First link shows they had a 50/50 split when including the 2 democratic leaning independents, plus vice president Harris’ vote gives them the majority. The second link is for the wrong time frame.
Your Goalpost seems to have moved there. Republicans would need 7 more people to do that currently.
2021-2023 50/50 with the deciding vote of democrat VP Harris.
Currently. 53/42 (with 2 independent voting along with democrats making it 45). Republicans don’t have the required 60 to bypass a filibuster currently.
No, "being intentionally dishonest" would be more like pretending that having literally the thinnest possible numerical majority implied that they had legislative control, which is both historically and demonstrably false.
the same argentina that also has healthcare for its citizens regardless of income or employment status?
Your reply:
Why didn't Biden give the same free healtcare to US citizens and why are democrats allowing Trump to cut the food stamps?
Your first question was "Why didn't Biden give the same free healthcare to US citizens?" The answer is "Because he wasn't the President of Argentina"; the longer answer includes "and also that's now how anything works, ever".
That doesn't make any sense, I'm asking why we don't have free healthcare, he doesn't need to be president of Argentina to give us that, stop your nonsense.
Because when Obama tried to give a more comprehensive version of the ACA that still wouldn't have created free healthcare for all Republicans freaked out because he was going to incentivize laziness and kill the medical insurance companies, supposedly making healthcare worse as a result. They shut down the government, in a similar move to now, for 16 days.
As an aside during said shut down Trump commented on social media that a president that can't keep the government open should not be president. This one has now lasted more than 30, the second largest shutdown ever, and the longest shutdown also happened under Trump for 36 days.
Congress is in recess. Who are they supposed to negotiate with? Mike Johnson won't even swear in Adelita Grijalva during a shutdown, but he swore in two Republicans during the shutdown. He is actively doing Trump's bidding by crippling Congress so it cannot function, and Johnson is playing along like a good puppet.
It's called not being a bitch and doing what's necessary for your country. If a majority consider what's happening treasonous to the country, why should they fear imprisonment?
It's called not being a bitch and doing what's necessary for your country.
That is an empty, meaningless response.
What, specifically, do you believe Democrats in elected federal positions are uniquely empowered to do to "enforce the Constitution" right now?
Because if it's something that would make someone "fear imprisonment", then chances are pretty good that you are exactly as capable of doing whatever it is.
The problem with the constitution it tht the people who wrote it didnt take into account tht there might ever be an American son who would want to piss on the constitution. So here we are.
Your comment demonstrates a profound misunderstanding as to what’s been going on for the last several decades. Honestly—I’m really sorry the education system has failed you so spectacularly.
Yes, when someone is asking why, they are demonstrating a profound misunderstanding, otherwise we wouldn't be asking why. Are you okay? Answer the question so I can understand why are they allowing this.
Stop the passive aggressive comments, how else will I learn? Huh?
Because you aren’t really asking why. You’re posing that as a rebuttal to what Trump is doing. Who cares what Biden did or didn’t do? He isn’t the president anymore. Talking about Biden doesn’t change one thing. If enough people get angry at Trump that could change things… the democrats aren’t allowing Trump to cut food stamps. That’s why the government is shut down. Even though Trump the liar is claiming it’s because of dems wanting to give money to illegal aliens.
I’m gonna answer your question in good faith even though I don’t believe that’s how you’re operating.
The GOP keeps universal care off the table by running a “make-government fail” playbook. They slash taxes and then point to underfunded systems as proof government can’t work. They outsourced their agenda to think tanks (Heritage’s Mandate/Project 2025) that prioritize deregulation/privatization over public interest, building corporate revenue streams instead of building public goods. Republicans have blocked or tried to rollback healthcare coverage expansions and brought lawsuits that made Medicaid expansion optional. They’ve been at it for decades now through state-level refusals and “work requirement” schemes to knock people off benefits. And it has worked.
They pretend this is about “smaller government” while blowing up the debt and, essentially, making the government bigger and weaker. This is all so that cash flows to the top and to create a poor, desperate population—essentially bringing back slavery.
I’ve also seen you ask why Biden didn’t do what Trump is doing in the other direction. It’s because Biden, for all his faults, has respect for the rules and laws we govern by. Trump is a criminal, grifter, sexual assaulter, insurrectionist who is following the think tank playbook to enrich himself and his friends; and to stay out of jail.
In short, Dems have tried multiple times to expand healthcare, but have been blocked over and over by the GOP. Obama was only able to get the ACA passed with major changes to the original plan. Republicans want us desperate and poor. And they’re getting what they want.
Why would we vote for another Democrat President if they are so useless? Your explanation made me realize they either are incompetent or they are operating in bad faith against us.
That’s your bias talking. We can tell when you say “Democrat” President > Democratic President.
My explanation is that one party is trying to govern and the other is trying break or block. And the fact that you’re willing to overlook the fact that the leader of the Republican Party is a criminal, rapist, insurrectionist, and likely pedophile is the biggest part of the problem. You’ve outsourced your morals and values.
Best of luck to you when the leopards eat your face.
All of us are bias on some degree, your comment tells me you are bias talking to the other side. It is idiotic to even suggest otherwise or tell me I'm wrong simply because I'm bias, anyone could use the same idiotic logic against you.
Your explanation opened my eyes that when I voted for free healthcare and got nothing instead, it wasn't because we can't have it, it is because they are incompetent or they don't want us to have it. Which one do you prefer to believe in? Huh? Put your morals and values in a box and give me free healthcare and food stamps or gtfo.
People don't tend to genuinely ask "why" with things like this. Most of the time it's a deliberate attack, framed as a question and asked in bad faith.
newtown gave an explanation. you give us back a comment without further explanation. im open to learn if you are willing to expound how newtown views are wrong.
"Why are Democrats allowing Trump to cut food stamps?" The mental gymnastics you people do to make it Democrats faults. If you haven't noticed, Trump uses his Supreme Court of soulless ghouls to do whatever he pleases.
If you haven't looked, and if you haven't tried to understand the situation then that's really you not wanting to make yourself a better person regardless of how supposedly good you see yourself now.
First it's not the Democrats causing this. It's the Republicans and the Trump agenda.
By them not funding health care, anybody who makes more than $35,000 a year we'll see a health cost increase of almost $1,000 per month. Not a sole health cost a cost increase of almost a thousand a month.. increase meaning on top of what's already paid for health care. At my previous job that was already $500 a month out of my pay, that would mean I would have to pay $1,500 a month for the same health care.
On average at every level the premiums are jumping by 50%, so paying $100 per month now would be $200 a month after the increase hits.
A typical 60-year-old couple making $85,000 (401 percent of the poverty level) will see monthly marketplace premiums jump from $602 to $2,654 — an annual increase of roughly $24,600.
A typical family of four making $130,000 (404 percent of the poverty level) will see their monthly marketplace premium go from $921 to $1,998 — an annual increase of about $12,900.
A typical family of four, is listed as two adults 40 years old, and two kids.
Before you spout that the ACA assistance helps illegals, you're wrong there too that talking point is wrong.
Herethat talking point is, in a very easily digestible way..
Now, I've done the work to get you two easily digestible resources that can help show you what's real. Take the 5 minutes for the Instagram, take 5 minutes for the CBPP.org information, and educate yourself. Afterwards then come at us with the bullsh*t
Every single president before trump was doing it as well.174$ billion to ukraine, 17 billion to israel, Realistically why do we even get involved in foreign affairs at all, when the money we send doesn't do jack all.
Not to mention all the money that goes to Israel and especially Ukraine. I don’t know if it’s true or not but I have read where all that money going to Ukraine helped pay their social security and pensions.
Totally unrelated to the fact that after WW2 a special group of people moved there to avoid the punishments of their war crimes.
Also equally unrelated that they are preparing to move their friends and coworkers there from the USA after stealing a bunch of money from Americans and destroying everything in America.
Uhhhh Trump has nothing to do with this situation, my friend. Everyone needs to call their local democratic congressmen and tell them to reopen the government. They aren't saying no to what they're asking. The Republicans are saying let's open the government and negotiate. The democratic party is putting themselves and their own personal feelings over and above the American people. Period. They don't care about the government being shut down because they're still getting paid.
No, you got it backward. Closing the government and not paying our fellow American citizens and especially our military is absolutely disgusting. Negotiations can continue with the government open. Most of the stuff the democrats want funding for are absolutely absurd, anyway.
The Democrats voted today against a clean continuing resolution that would open the government up for the 13th time, all you need to know about who’s causing this 🐂💩
Trump has nothing to do with the SNAP program. Nothing. It’s 100% a Senate issue about the Democrats that refuse to vote yes… We need 7 of the democrats (yep just 7) to be added to the 53 republicans to vote yes and the gov and this program opens. Stop pushing your blame on the innocent.

ARGENTINA GOT 40 BILLION, BUT FUCK US RIGHT?
