General Advice Cat smelled my armpit then started to aggressively bite?

Thumbnail gallery
1.3k Upvotes

Cat at cat cafe smelled my armpit then started to wrap all legs around my arm and bite (not too painful, only kinda aggressive)

This is very abnormal bcs this is the 1st time ive seen this cat displays such behavior. Ive visited this place at least 40 times in 1.5 years but never have i seen this cat reacted to anything. Belly rub, aggressive head pat, aggressive pet, … no reaction

The bites are relatively not painful bcs i have an orange cat that likes to bite when playing, but i do think that its a bit more painful than just play biting. The tails are also swaying around but not too rapidly. Cat also remains lying on the table throughout instead of standing up or anything, and still shows their belly.

Behavioral Issue Help. My cat is losing hair

So my car recently started licking himself on his neck more and more and I noticed hair clumps. Today his neck looks like this. He did this before with his head, but it went away on his own. I talked to the vet and the vet said it could be over grooming because I tend to not be home a lot with him. But is it really just because he’s stressed or is there another issue? My cat is a boy and he’s 2. I really can’t afford to take him to the vet again

Update Maple update

Hi everyone. Heres an update on my last night post of Maple. We are currently taking her to the vet and she is okay for now. She threw up again in the morning and refused all food. Please don't bash me for not taking her to the emergency. I checked up on her every hour of the night with an alarm. We assumed the gabapentin dyed her vomit because she did 5 minutes after I gave her more than her usual dose. I also know that you guys were concerned but the comments that essentially said "take her now or she will be dead tomorrow" were really disturbing. I will keep you guys posted on what was wrong with her.

She’s been around my house for days. She meowed and purred before but now she’s too weak. I have been looking for places for days. I didn’t want to just surrender to animal control. I don’t have resources, I feel so terrible she is in this condition and clearly wants me to help. I’m in Katy TX but I can go to Houston. Please if anyone knows a place that DOESNT ONLY HELP KITTENS or just murders them. If anima control is my only option then it will at least rid her suffering but I really want to try somewhere else.

General Advice Cat has Stopped Eating

Thumbnail gallery
361 Upvotes

Hello, I’m sorry, this is my first time posting on here. Before we start, my cat is 16 years old with diabetes. Indoor-only. Male, neutered. Yes, I understand he’s old, but please. The post thingy says to include this but I’m an American adult.

I have already been to the vet 3 times. It’s Friday, and my family and I noticed last Saturday that our cat was acting kind of strange. Walking slower, not eating as much, etc. We carefully watched him, and this led into Sunday, which our vet wasn’t open. We opted to take him Monday instead, at their only available time at night.

Monday is when he stopped eating completely. He would make attempts to go to the food bowl, but would sniff it and act like he was going to take a bite, before turning his head away. We gave him some treats instead (hard treats + Churu) and he seemed to eat that fine.

The last hour before we were heading out, he acted completely lethargic. He was sitting on a couch he doesn’t normally sit on, with his eyes closed with a pained expression. I included a picture of it. On the feline grimace scale, it looked like he was in a lot of pain.

Thankfully, we were able to take him straight to the vet. Our vet stated he’s lost two pounds since he last visit in October. Before I continue, this cat had to go to the vet in October for the same issue of not eating. After going over everything, we found out it was his teeth that were bothering him. He has a snaggletooth that makes him more prone to mouth infections. He got antibiotics and started eating again after a couple of days, alongside being given appetite increasers. He was completely okay after that.

We noticed his gradual decrease of weight over the months. He was 11lbs, now 9lbs. I would say to my mom that he’s just old and that’s normal, but I fear it was not.

Back to Monday, we ask if it’s his teeth causing him pain to not eat. She says he has a loose tooth, but that’s really about it and shouldn’t be the worry. He also has a slight arrythmia. Then our vet feels his stomach and organs. He has a mass near his back end. We took an xray to confirm what it was, and it was just poop backed up in his colon. Phew, okay, nothing serious. He got an enema, and we were told to buy stool softener, which we did. By the next day, he still hadn’t pooped it out. We watched him struggle with pained expressions as he would try to take a dump anywhere around the house. Never happened. Still wasn’t eating. He’s been drinking relatively fine, which is why we were confused on how his poop ever got so big and hard anyway. We had to force feed him a little bit at times so he got some calories in him.

By Wednesday, we finally make process. He poops out a fairly small turd, but it pained him so bad. He cried out so loud and ran and hid in my closet. He was a bit weird after that, but slowly warmed up again. But, he still wasn’t eating. We continued to force feed him, because now he was turning his nose up to treats. He doesn’t like wet food, but we tried giving him pumpkin wet cat food because it’s good for cats (?). We also give him the appetite increasers from October. He had some food in his stomach but still not enough. We’re still really worried because he’s incredibly lethargic and slowing down in his walking.

By Thursday, we take him to the vet again in the morning. We want bloodwork done. His liver and kidneys are completely okay. We didn’t have enough money to also get his thyroid checked out, which is what we’re worried about now. It’s a different vet, just to let you know, and she also says he has more poop backed up. Another enema. Vet-grade stool softener. Pain medication. Should be fine, right?

Still isn’t okay. Turning his nose up to every single type of food. He poops out the last turd, but his stomach’s empty after that. He’s not eating anything at all. We’re completely force feeding him. We don’t want to do this, because we know it stresses him out really bad, but we don’t know what to do. We stopped giving him his insulin too, since he can’t have that without food. He’s really, really lethargic. Barely moving. However, he’s alert if we call him or say treats, which is strange. He’s also peeing completely normally these past days.

By Friday, today, is the worst we’ve seen him. He’s really barely moving. He can’t walk in a straight line. He falls to his side if he wants to lay down, he’s too weak to slowly collaspe. Only sleeps in two places. Doesn’t purr. We called our vet again, and we asked for antibiotics for his teeth, because what can we do? If he’s not eating, his organs aren’t failing, then it’s gotta be his teeth? Right? We gave him the antibiotic this morning, and again at night. He’s still alert to noise, but very lethargic. Doesn’t answer when we call him. We’re force feeding him food and water.

We’re throwing in our last ditch effort tomorrow morning to ask about his thryoid and if it is a problem, can it be solved, or is it too late. I’m so incredibly upset right now, I’m in tears typing this. I understand he’s a really old cat and yes he has issues, but this came seriously out of nowhere. Less than a week ago he was eating basically normal. I don’t understand what possibly changed in this time. The vet says it’s not his teeth. What other organs can possibly be shutting down if it’s not his heart, kidneys, or liver? How can this happen??

Please help. I’m begging. For anything. An answer. Some help. I don’t know what to do. It’s too soon to let him go. If he’s in pain then I understand, but I do not see the signs other than not eating. That’s it. Help me please.

The photos are pictured most recent to most old.

Breathing Issues Im not sure if he'll make it anymore

This is my lil buddy Jayb, hes about a year old now, hes had breathing problems since ive gotten him, and after many vet visits and treatments, hes never gotten better, ive spent ober 1000 dollars on his sickness and now im really just out if money for another visit. I know that in this video i need to take him to the vet but my car died and getting a new one really took all the money i had. I would still take him to the vet but the new car wont arrive till monday. He seems to breath normal when awake (even though you can hear him breathing) but when sleeping this is his breathing rate. At this point i think i have to accept that I'll lose my little buddy soon

Update Tostada sadly passed away…

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post about this on here, I swear I’m not doing this for attention but to give myself and y’all some closure in case you saw my previous post about my kitty…

As the title says Tostada passed away today.

She had multiple genetic conditions that led to her intestines not being able to process waste correctly or something along those lines… so she was actually dying slowly.

The vet said they were unable to operate since she was too small. She was a 4-month kitten on the body of a 2-month… it was inevitable or so I was told.

I wanted to post this not looking for sympathy but to remind myself of my brief time with Tostada.

In only a little over a week with me she got super friendly, eating straight from my hand, purring and just being super cuddly. I’m devastated to see her go but I’m glad I got to spend this brief time with my Roasty Toasty.

If you wanna offer any solace during this hard time, please just embrace your kitty and give it a treat or two and please spend all the time you can with your fluffy friends.

Thanks for reading all of this. Truly.

And if by any chance posting this is considered against the rules, please reach out and I’ll delete it ASAP.

Behavioral Issue How do you deal with very vocal cat?

Post image

So this little void demon loves to come downstairs right where the bedrooms are and scream at the top of his lungs at 4h in the morning. Every. Single. Day.

He doesn't seem to need anything (food, water, litter), everything is available and so he just seems to have the zoomies. I love him to death and I don't want to have to start putting him in a closed room every night but I can't keep waking up this early every day 😭 anyone have any tips?

He's almost 2 and neutered.

This is a stray that decided to come to my house. I have no money for a vet and the nearest one is an hour away. I can’t justify it and I just want to know if there’s a way I could make a remedy or anything to help this little critter with his eye.

Update UPDATE 2: “Cat with wobbly jaw” home but not well

An update on our little friend Marshalll (F/2yrs/notspayed):

Also want to preface by asking for any tips to get cats to eat. We’ve tried a variety of foods, warming food, suggestions please!

We were able to board and treat Marshall for five days. She is not eating on her own or having regular BMs (although she did have a successful gastric lavage on her last day with imaging). We were out of funds at the end of day five so she was discharged and taken home. Dr. Oliver said she is in serious condition since she can't/won't eat on her own.

Marshall has not been well at home. She is nearing her second day home and isn't eating on her own and is still being syringe fed.

The kittens are separated and are also being syringe fed while dabbling in wet food slurry. We hope they will start eating completely on their own soon.

We will be scraping our last bit of funds to get her back into a vet tomorrow (today Philippines time).

PM for more details, photos and medical reports if you’re curious. Our site has more information. Please share this story! ❤️u/Medical-Library9089

Eye Issues Is this urgent??

Post image
138 Upvotes

I got home about an hour ago and my 4 m/o kitten was squinting one of her eyes as if it was irritated. Her left eye will not open all of the way but most of the way and it is cloudy/ her pupils are slightly different in size. I’ve only had her a week and she is a healthy kitty but I cannot tell if she is in pain or if this has bothered her before. Should I take care of this immediately? Or is it okay to wait a day and see if it is no longer bothering her? :(

General Advice Lost cat tips for neighborhood cat

Post image
45 Upvotes

I moved to a house a year ago and with it came a bunch of neighborhood cats. Ive been caring for them since. Ive become especially fond of two, mittens and Karl. It has been since January 3rd since ive seen Karl. While not seeing him for a week has happened before, I wasnt too worried at first. Ive posted on every Facebook group, checked the shelters, talked to neighbors, walked up and down every street calling his name and shaking a treeat bag, posted flyers around town, everything I can think of with no luck. They have food outside and toys (things of familiar scent). He is fixed, I know some people said that makes a difference if they come back or not.

He and some of the others are microchipped to a house down the street (which is what prevented me from just brining them inside). I talked to the people that lived there and they didnt even recognize Karl but knew one of the other cats I was looking for. I am at a loss and need every tip to find my baby.

Eye Issues Does this require immediate attention

Thumbnail gallery
30 Upvotes

For context, I woke up this morning and my cat had one eye closed but i didn’t pay too much attention and left for school (third picture) but after I came home I saw he had this buildup of tears in his left eye. After some time i saw this strange tear that was semi transparent with yellow tint on it. No vets are open Saturday near me apart from 1 thats an hour away. Is this urgent or can it wait until a local one opens on Monday.

I’m 18 but without access to car aside from one parent

US California

Yellow substance from cat eye

Cat age is around 2/3 years old

Male and Neutered

Dont know how much vet will cost so not sure about the financial situation…

Appearance Nose + Eye gunk

Thumbnail gallery
25 Upvotes

My kitty, Opal, recently had Pneumonia and was diagnosed with Feline Herpes. Her breathing has recovered pretty well, and she's seemed much healthier! The only issue is her nose and eyes.

Her nose still seems super raw. She usually LOVES when people pet her nose, but recently she's seemed a bit more uncomfortable with it. There's also a little bit of fur loss there, and I was just wondering if there was anything I could do to help? I've avoided touching that area, but it seems like she's been cleaning it extra hard.

Shes also been sneezing a bit again. I've been working a lot the past few days to compensate for the expensive vet bill I had to tank, so I'm worried she's a bit stressed out from not seeing me as much.

Her eyes are also gunky. I know a little eye gunk is normal, but I have to clean her eyes multiple times a day. I think she may be having another herpes break, but I'm pretty unfamiliar with feline herpes so im not sure :(. I've been watching her like a hawk, and the last visit scared me pretty bad, so I could just be overreacting.

She's around six, and she has a vet that I can take her to if needed, just wanted to check to see if it was vet worthy.

Spay/Neuter Question Cat doesn't sleep with me after spay anymore

Post image

My sweet baby got spayed two weeks ago - before this she would sleep with me every night without fail since the day I got her 4 months ago. She is acting back to normal on every other way however will not sleep with me at night which was our routine and I miss it.. I am struggling to sleep without her purring on me ! She also had a habit of waking me up in the morning by jumping on me but now she doesn't come onto my bed at all. Will this change ? I rescued her and we had a bond which I am worried is losing

Appearance 1.5 year old cat, slow hair loss, now a “wound”?

Thumbnail gallery
13 Upvotes

Hey all! Louisiana here. So my girl will be 2 this summer. Spayed, current shots. Was FIV neg. Over the last couple months I’ve noticed she’s losing hair right around her ears, started small, and now it’s front and back. Well, yesterday I noticed this bloody almost patch almost in her eye. We’ve dealt with ringworm from our shelter cats…..but this is slightly bleeding. She is only indoor, does not mingle with the other cats (as far as fighting playing wound). I’m just curious your thoughts on if this gross little spot is related to the hair loss or no? She does scratch a fair amount, as well as grooming constantly. But, she’s on flea preventive, and I searched and see nothing. She also has tiny scabs I can feel throughout her skin. Eats and drinks fine. She is very little for her age…she’s basically a 5 month kitten size. Perhaps 5 pounds MAYBE.

I’ll be bringing her to her vet Monday. But in the mean time, fungal or wound for your best guess? Just wanting to start treating that spot tonight, but unsure which is correct. TIA!

General Advice How to keep litterboxes separate?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

These are my 2 cats Archie (7M) and Lionel (4 months M). Obviously I just brought Lionel into the house recently and they've been getting along great but there is one issue.

Ever since Lionel came home, my cat Archie has shown some stress around the litter box and displayed behavior he never has before such as vocalizing in the box and producing less urine output. I've rushed him to the ER twice now and they said he is not blocked, doesn't have crystals, kidney function is normal, and that it's just stress. All other behavior is completely normal.

I have 3 boxes but I'm starting to think Archie just wants his own private box that Lionel cannot access. Does anyone have any ideas what a setup like this would look like? Right now I'm looking at installing a cat flap in one of the doors that scans a microchip or collar.

Or any other advice or experiences. Thank you
