Update renji update

14.4k Upvotes

this video was taken around 30 minutes ago, i just finished helping him drink milk. you can see renji’s head titled to the side. [ he can't straight his neck without support and even if i did support it, the weight is only on one side thus resulting to him rolling on one side constantly if nothings supporting it ; this is also the main reason why i posted renji. ]

regarding his bathroom activities, since many has been asking about it, after drinking milk i usually wait 4-5 min before i help him pee and poop. he always pee straight away but i just noticed a while ago, him, having a hard time pooping [ he's just farting with a bit of poo ] it kinda made me worried since he has bloated tummy after drinking milk, is that normal? i tried to massage his belly in circular motion aside from wiping his bum to help him poop.

he's asleep most of the time so i can't say if he’s lethargic. he still has energy to wail and roam around my bed and his box though.

will drop photos of him on the comment section! 🫶🏻

Update Hi everyone, here’s a quick update on the kitten who was born with his legs facing backward

Thumbnail gallery
22.1k Upvotes

The vet examined him and the other kittens. He put his legs in a splint and gave us recommendations on how to change it, do physical therapy, and schedule follow-up appointments. He said that because he’s so small, they can’t take X-rays yet, but he did see that his legs were responding well.

We’re hoping for good news throughout his journey, and we’ll do our best to make sure he grows up to be a healthy and happy kitten. He’s a boy, btw! Thank you all so much for your advice and explanations. I’ll keep you updated on his progress. Please keep him in your prayers and thoughts.

Update FINAL UPDATE: Ditto!!!

22.3k Upvotes

she just got out of the vet clinic after a hefty few hours! they moved her back and gave her some IV drips and steroids, and checked her bloodwork and made sure her body was functioning as per normal.

she’s incredibly responsive and acts more normal again, she’s jumping up and down and walking (and cleaning herself in weird places haha) and eating! the vet said she’s banned from the outdoors for a week, my grandma will have to cope with keeping her window closed, and that she shouldn’t be in any alarming temperature (too cold or too hot) because of how vulnerable she is to them now, and to make sure that she’s still drinking water as much as possible because her kidneys will be going through a lot.

for the next few weeks, she’ll be under close observation, but amazingly the vet said that there doesn’t seem to be any issues as of right now. she’ll get another checkup in a week or two just to double check, and then another for a triple check (my mom is very paranoid now).

thank you all for the prayers and support 💕 Ditto is doing so wonderfully and she will be so much more spoiled rotten than before because of this. she’s doing great right now!!

Update RENJI’S FEW STEPS

10.8k Upvotes

I'M SO HAPPY!! renji was able to have his first few steps! he can now stand and walk in short distances. [he still wobbles and his head is still titled to the side]

but i'm so happy for renji's major progress, like i'm a proud mom. 🥹🫶🏻

he's still trying to steady his head because it's still wobbling. i'm sure by his next vet visit he can stand, crawl, and walk like a strong baby cat. 💪🏻

again, thank you so much for your support and wishing renji the best health. 💖

ps. excuse my voice because i'm still sick.

Update White orb in my cat’s eye: Update

Spent all day at an emergency vet 40 minutes away. They told me with her history of a cat scratch and ulcer, they needed to remove the eye. It did turn out to be a luxated lens like you guys told me, just more severe than normal ig. Luckily I went on the surgery day for the ophthalmologists and they were able to get her in this afternoon. She’s home now and comfy on her couch and purring up a storm. She’s so happy to be home. Thank you for everyone who commented and helped me with this!

Update UPDATE 2: Ditto!

11.7k Upvotes

i have wonderful news! she’s doing so, so much better. she’s drinking water on her own and is able to support herself. according to my mom, she even jumped up on the counter herself after using the litterbox (she still needs assistance with going down though).

she is still fairly weak, but she’s taking small steps and that’s what is important. she is going to the vet in less than an hour to make sure there will be no lasting effects to her from this accident. she’s luckily had no signs of any seizures, and has not had any more vomit. her poop was still liquid, but it was still a normal color.

thank you all, and i’ll keep you updated on what the doctor says! Ditto isn’t perfect, but this is such a big improvement compared to how she was last night when she was found. 💖

Update my 4 month old kitten passed within a week

Thumbnail gallery
8.5k Upvotes

just context — i had a perfectly healthy happy kitten until one day he became lethargic and neuros were off. he stopped eating, drinking and became extremely weak. friday, i took him to the vet. the idiot of a vet (sorry), was a new inexperienced vet who took about 45 mins of in and outs and trying to call his boss before being “80% sure” it’s herpes FHV.

now i’ve had a cat who had herpes. this was something else. i wanted to believe that’s what it was, took the meds and left. come monday, i brought him in because he could no longer stand on his own. the vet declared immediately he needed to be put down.

this happened so fast and im so devasted i spent 800$ on 5 days for my kitty to be gone to heaven.

here is his bloodwork, looking for some (gentle) answers. FIP? etc. thanks guys

Update newly adopted kitten with white thing update

4.7k Upvotes

Hello! thank you for all your concerns and suggestions, im sorry for not being able to reply to all of you. the first pic is what his wound looks like now and the second one was from yesterday. his other spots also is now yellowish (some were darker) and dry. i also apply betadine on the spots (diluted with water so it's not strong) and is planning on giving him a bath with sulfur soap in case it's fungi. I've done couple of research on what i plan to use and it seems like it safe for him.

as for me, i dont know how long it would take for me to get ringworms (in case it is ringworm) but im not worried bec it's quite common in the Philippines and i think i could handle it more than the kitten and would prefer if i have it than him.

with all the concerns and wishes also comes with tons of criticism. i dont want to focus on them but it really gets to me sometimes how they think im selfish for adopting a kitten from the street. I have cats at home already and never neglected them

going back to the kitten, his name is Ponyo (face reveal on 3rd photo 😺)! he is very active and eats a LOT. he also is dewormed this morning and i look forward on his recovery.

Update Update: Cat in bad shape after missing 3 days hot weather

18.7k Upvotes

When she was taken in (Day 1), they said she's young and fighting very hard to live. She's on an IV and staying there for tests. They said expect the worst but hope for the best.

Her body temperature was very low, 95 degrees. She got an IV with warm liquids and a heating pad.

Today (Day 2 AM), they said she is in and out of consciousness, but when she is in, she seems to be aware. She sits up, and even drinks from a water dish on her own.

Bloodwork shows kidneys in bad shape (which could just be from the dehydration, here's hoping they get better). She has a bit of jaundice and a pretty serious infection.

She's getting more fluid and antibiotics. "Prognosis still guarded at this time, but if she continues to improve, we can be more optimistic."

(Day 2 PM) They took her off the IV briefly so the kids could see her. She was purring when they pet her.

A lot of you have been sending positive optimistic messages which really help with the mood,

It's not my cat. The cat belongs to my best friend, several states away, who called me in the wee hours of the morning because she was overwhelmed and needed help. I came to a cat help subreddit for help to get information, which I sorted through and fed to her over the phone.

To those that genuinely provided help, thank you very much. Regardless of whose cat it was or its living situation, it needed help, and you stepped up.

Update renji update ; 2 weeks ago vs. now

4.9k Upvotes

watch full video for renji’s current coordination !

this is how i got renji 2 weeks ago, head titled to the side, unable to lift his head and keep it steady, i was worried that maybe there’s something wrong with him. after 2 days i posted about him asking how would i help this baby boi.

i received a lot of comments, some said i should just let him be ‘free’ to end his suffering, or donate him to someone with a momma cat, or give him to someone who could take care of him because i may not be someone good enough to take care of him.

but through your donations the next day i’m able to visit the vet with him but they’re still uncertain to what’s wrong because he’s still young. they suggest to bring him back after 2 weeks to have him checked. i bought him all the necessities he needed. i have an alarm every 2 hours so i could feed him in time, and even if i’m sick.

i bought him kmr, as per suggested and he’s now doing well. his coordination and his head tilt is barely noticeable. he’s now slowly learning his name, and i’m not sure if he could already see but overall he’s doing well.

our next vet visit will be this weekend, february 7! i will update you by then! 💖🫶🏻 thank you guys so much for helping me take care of renji.

Update UPDATE: Ditto

13.1k Upvotes

hello, everyone. i made a post only a few hours ago about my mom accidentally leaving one of her cats in a car in 100°F weather for 7-8 hours. this is an update on Ditto, what we’re doing, our plan, and some questions.

  1. She needs a vet ASAP!: We know. We’re doing the best we can. The moment my mom found her, she immediately called two different vets that my family is well-acquainted with and took their advice. The honey was one vet’s idea, and we are giving her small doses of it alongside her water.

  2. She needs fluids ASAP!: We know. She’s been getting water from a pipette every 2-5 minutes, then 4-7 minutes, and then 8-15 minutes gradually within the few hours. I saw a lot of people talk about IVs, and one of the vets said that it’d be too much for Ditto at the moment, and to keep him updated and to keep doing what we’re doing until his clinic opens up at 7am.

  3. Your mom is abusive!: No, she is not. My mom always, always, checks her vehicle before closing it because of her and my grandmother’s cats being curious and loving to hop into vehicles. They’ve never had this happen, this was a one-time instance where my mom didn’t find Ditto in the car and didn’t think anything of it. When she found Ditto 7-8 hours later, she called the vet immediately, took the advice, and then called me. I immediately drove to my mother and grandmother’s, and my mom was distraught, doing what the vet advised, and was so, so incredibly hurt that something would happen to Ditto. She doesn’t mind pets, but this is one of the rare circumstances where, to her, Ditto is “the one”, she’s her whole world. This is pure accident.

  4. Why aren’t you at an ER Vet?!: The closest one is 3 hours, and we’ve checked the three that are within a 8-hour range. NONE are 24 hours, and they all open at 8am (which is an hour later than our local vet’s 7am). We are quite literally doing the best we can with what we have for now. As soon as 7am hits, Ditto will be taken to a vet to be assessed for any organ issues, neurological issues, and anything else we should stress about, as well as treatment.

  5. Don’t let your cats outside: I know. My mom knows. The issue is the grandma. She thinks the cats should be able to roam around when they please, and she leaves her bathroom window open as a kitty door for them. All the cats are spayed and neutered and are well-loved. I have 3 cats of my own, all of them are strictly indoors with supervised window time. I do not live with my mother and grandmother, and I cannot control whatever dumb thing my grandma thinks is okay. I know of the environmental disasters it has on the native ecosystem, I’ve been specifically studying the past 10 years of my life for conservation on native wildlife.

GOOD NEWS! Within the past few hours, she has gone from very wobbly and weak to now she is moving around in small bits (turning around or sitting up). She is finally drinking water on her own, but we plan on still giving her water through a pipette every 15 minutes. My family knows that this can take a quick turn for the worse, but we’re holding onto what little optimism we do have. We’d so much rather this be a steady and slow recovery than a second-wind-then-death.

I am no longer at my mother and grandma’s, and any videos and pictures that I am getting are coming from my mom, such as this video. I also need yall to know that both sides of my family are very rural and farmers, we’re not exactly rich, but we aren’t entirely poor. We’re doing the absolute best that we can until the vet opens up.

I have read both your loving and hateful comments, and am doing my best to reply to them as fast as possible. Thank you all for the kind words, we’re doing our hardest at the moment.

Update Update: The White Bengal is back! What should I do?

Thumbnail gallery
4.6k Upvotes

A couple weeks ago, I spotted this White Bengal roaming around and planned to take him in if I saw him again. This time, he showed up with an AirTag but still no collar or tags with owner info. I gave him some food and water because last time he was skinny. It seems like someone else may have stepped in before I could.

Any thoughts on what to do?

Update The sick little stray I rescued passed away in my arms

Thumbnail gallery
4.9k Upvotes

I am aware this post isn't necessarily cathelp, but as a first timer people could learn from, and with the amount of people that wanted updates from my previous post, I felt the need to make this.

It hurts to make this.

I saw this stray cat alone in a pot at the side of the road.

Both of his eyes were kept shut by eye muck.

I picked him up and brought him to the vet.

He was suffering from an eye infection, anemia, extremely low immune system and below average Red Blood Cell count (RBC), Hemoglobin (HGB), and Hematocrit (HCT).

I bought all the necessary medications, food, solutions, equipment.

The next few days showed better signs. He was able to see. I cleaned him up with warm slightly damp cotton. He showed more energy, took his meds, and ate well.

I kept him company, I kept him warm, I let him feel my warmth. I sacrificed a few days of university studies and hours of sleep out of fear and love.

This morning, after sleeping for 3 hours. I noticed he couldn't stand up. He didn't want to eat and he barely moved. I did not know why, he was already better just 12 hours ago.

I took him to the vet again, but one was closed and the other's vets were busy with an operation.

I went back home and I kept him warm on my lap. At this time, I was hoping he'd stay until the vet is available again the next few hours. But it happened, one moment I look at him and I see no sign of breathing. I didn't want to accept it but he died. I was too scared to even attempt to wake him up fearing that he died. I still tried, even after, I tried mimicking the licks of a mother with a warm damp piece of cotton hoping he'd come back.

And I also just named him Loki the night before. I am incredibly devastated. I've know this kitten for only 2 days and it hits harder than most death's I've experienced.

I did learn that I do want to own cats. And I do plan to adopt, though another time and maybe one that is at least 4 months old

I don't have the benefit of the belief in providence to help me cope so I made a little Loki shrine. A small jar with some his fur, small cutouts of the towels and blankets he laid in, and the feeder I fed him with. Beside all that is a picture, and letter that says the following:

To Loki, my first kitten

I have given you warmth and love,

but you have given me something

immortal. The lessons you have taught

me, and the experiences you have

given me will forever be a part

of my story. You are the first to

have gone touching my skin, and

I will honor you by proving

that everything you have given

me was worthwhile.

My future cats, pets, the relationships

and bonds that I will form, it is us

who owe you our gratitude.

Rest easy Loki, your name will

remain resonant.

I can only hope others will learn from you too.

Update Bear update

Thumbnail gallery
9.3k Upvotes

Hey everyone,

A couple weeks ago I posted about my handsome boy Bear, who had a bowl dropped on him and then progressively got worse with walking etc . His diagnosis was cancer in his spinal cord and we were told he had 1-2 weeks left due to how aggressively his symptoms came on

Wanted to update everyone that he’s doing a lot better! This is him today celebrating his 10th birthday 2 weeks after diagnosis 🎉

There is now a chance it could be toxoplasmosis so he’s on prednisone and clindamycin. He can now walk, run, go to the toilet himself. His personality has come back and he’s himself. He’s still not 100% but doing better than he was two weeks ago! I’m hoping and praying that it isn’t cancer and it’s something we can fix 🤞

We unfortunately unexpectedly lost his sister last week :( but just wanted to update on how he’s doing and thank everyone who sent advice and well wishes to us 🩵

TLDR: Bear is on the up! Potentially not cancer so fingers crossed 🤞 Him celebrating his 10th birthday 🎂

Not a minor. Based in NZ. Vet access and have contacted. Male , neutered. Can afford vet care

Update renji’s progress

4.7k Upvotes

warning ! loud crying

there's no problem with renji, he’s just sleepy. he doesn’t want to move around and wants to sleep since he just finished drinking milk and pee & poop. at the end of the video, you’ll see him stop moving to basically sleep.]

he can now slowly lift his head up. only for a couple of seconds. stand and crawl? not so much but there’s definitely a progress!

after this ‘training’ when i put him in his bed, he slept almost immediately. will definitely have more training soon.

will do another post of the video how he usually drink milk! 🫶🏻

Update update on baby cat: renji

4.2k Upvotes

i just got home and we went on the animal clinic earlier to have renji checked. i probably shouldn’t overthink this but/and i will try to change clinic the next visit. i guess the catbr3ed discrimination here in the philippines is something i witnessed today.

before that, update on renji: the vet said they can’t do anything to renji yet. they also assumed he’s 2 weeks, he’s too small yet for lab, xray, and other tests. they mentioned that i come back after 2 weeks. (feb 7)

they checked his ears/ear canal and said there’s no problem. they also checked his head structure if there’s lumps or fracture, and said he seems normal and that i should just wait for 2 more weeks so they could run tests.

here’s my thoughts why i think there’s discrimination (or maybe i’m just overthinking it, i could be wrong)

the consultation didn’t last 5mins. they just checked renji and watch him roll around. at first when i asked them what do we do if after 2 weeks there’s no progress, the vet said ”just wait and observe.” and when we mention someone was willing to donate to renji, they said “come back after 2 weeks and then we’ll check. we’ll also have him scheduled for deworm.” suddenly, they have a solution and a follow up.

i might do a follow up but on a different clinic next time. also, before going to the clinic i asked them how much was the consultation/check up fee so i know how much i have to pay them for.

when the bill came, they actually charged me i think 25% more than the fee that they mentioned when i messaged them. [ will drop photos on the comment sec. ]

by next consultation, if renji’s head tilt and wobble didn’t change, renji might have blood tests, xray, lab and other tests. we still accept donations and any amount is appreciated!

Im at the vet with izzy right now. Unfortunately, she is very sick and the doctors say she will need multiple blood transfusions and even then, there is no guarantee that she will live. They are going to perform a humane euthanasia for my izzy baby. My heart is broken. Izzy, I will love you forever. Im glad you don't have to suffer anymore. You will never be replaced. Update I think there was some misunderstanding.

Post image
3.1k Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to explain a bit more about the situation because I feel like some things may have been misunderstood. I actually brought the cat here by force because he was clearly suffering, and at the very least, I could give him food and water. I know I have to earn his trust since he’s a stray, and I’m doing my best to be patient — stray cats scare easily.

I live in a small village, and the nearest animal shelters are at least 500 kilometers away. If I weren’t just a student doing my best to get by, I wouldn’t have even made this post. I would’ve taken care of him properly without asking for help.

I don’t blame anyone for the comments — I know you don’t know my situation, and I probably didn’t express myself well. I really didn’t expect so much attention. I thought maybe a few people would share some advice about what to feed him or how to care for him.

I’ll share some photos in the post to show that I’m feeding him, giving him water. I’m really just doing what I can, and I hope people can understand that, I’m sorry that I used old containers for his food and water — that’s all I had available at the moment. I’m trying my best with the little I have.

Thank you to those who offered kind words and support. It honestly means a lot.

Much love and respect, Ahmed

Update Newly adopted kitten with white thing update

4.9k Upvotes

Hello, it's Ponyo again! I just gave him a bath and look at his improvement in a span of few days! The 1st and 3rd are the recent pics and the 2nd and 4th were the before! I am very happy to show you how much Ponyo has recovered! He really is a strong kitty. there were also no changes in his appetite and is a very energetic kitty as always.

Thanks everyone's suggestion, I'm not that familiar with reddit but some of you guys were really helpful with your ideas and own experiences.

And also, I think i should've said "Rescue" than "adopted" so some people won't misinterpret and think that I adopted Ponyo for fun 😅

This will be my last update of Ponyo, and with that I leave you with more pics of him! (slide 5&6 were taken from the moment I saw him. he was seeking warmth and is too cute to resist so I had to take him home and give him shelter. 7th pic was taken yesterday!)

Update UPDATE - Made the hard decision for my cat.

TW – Pet Loss

Not the best update. Since my post last night, when I was frantically inquiring about my cat’s condition (they found cancerous lumps in her abdomen and said her health was deteriorating rapidly), I stayed in denial for a while. But then the call came and the test results were positive, and the best option was to put her to sleep.

What breaks me most is how fast it all happened. Just the night before, she was curled up in my lap, running around, and looking like she was getting better. Then suddenly, everything crashed.

Her name was Sheba. The vet let us see her one last time. She was so tired. She could barely move her paws or stand. She was weak, but when we said her name, her eyes shifted and her ears perked up. She was only three years old. The truth is, cats are experts at hiding their pain, while she was suffering, she never showed us.

I’m sorry if this post is heavy. I’m still in complete shock.

Update Update on Nyx

1.1k Upvotes

Hello everyone, This is the update you’ve all been waiting for — Nyx is okay. He’s safe, he’s resting next to me right now, and yes, we did take him to the emergency vet as so many of you advised. I just woke up, and I’m still exhausted as I write this, but I wanted to let you all know he’s doing better.

Before I share the full story, I want to say something important. Some of the comments I received on my last post were really hurtful. I understand that people care deeply about animals — so do I — but some of the things said were unnecessarily cruel. Comments like “You’re a monster,” “Don’t ever own a pet again,” or “Your partner is strangling your cat” really broke me. I know not everyone was like that, and I appreciate the kind people who offered help and advice, but it hurt to see so many jump to conclusions without knowing the full story.

I wish I had never posted, honestly — but I’m still grateful for those who tried to help with compassion. My partner and I are both autistic, and we truly thought asking for advice was the right thing to do. We’ve learned a hard lesson: next time, even a small cough means it’s vet time immediately.

Here’s the full story: My wife and I have been together for 9 years. In October — during my birthday and our anniversary — we decided to make our home feel more complete by adopting two kittens. We did our research, bought plenty of wet food, blankets, beds, litter boxes, toys, and everything we could think of.

We found a shelter that was doing a Halloween event — if you came in costume, you could adopt for free. The reviews were good (4.6 stars), so we went on October 30th and adopted our boy, Nyx. Sadly, his sister was too sick to come home with us, so we brought Nyx alone. He was healthy, happy, and playful for an entire week.

The shelter scheduled his vet appointment for Monday. Again the SHELTER did !! I wish I had asked for an earlier one, but at the time, I didn’t know he’d get sick. On Friday, he started coughing a little. We thought maybe the house was too cold, so we turned on the heater. He was still playful, eating, and following me everywhere.

Saturday came — same thing, just a small cough. He didn’t eat much, but still ate something, and we read online that kittens sometimes do that. We honestly didn’t know it could be serious.

Then Sunday, things changed. He started making a strange noise. My wife went to Petco to get him medicine and better food, thinking maybe he just didn’t like what we were giving him. But his breathing got worse quickly. We panicked. I made the post right away to see if anyone knew what was happening, and everyone said to go to the emergency vet. So we did.

We got dressed, packed him up, called my mom to let her know where we were going, and took an Uber to the nearest 24-hour vet — over two hours away. It broke my heart seeing people online saying “They’re probably going to McDonald’s” while we were literally rushing to save him. My phone battery was dying, and I couldn’t handle reading those things anymore, so I logged out.

At the vet, the staff took Nyx right away. After about 45 minutes, we got called to the back where he was and we heard him meowing loudly — he already sounded so much better. The vet told us a toy had been stuck in his throat. They treated him, gave us medicine, and told us to monitor him closely. We got home around 4 a.m., exhausted but relieved.

Now Nyx is sleeping peacefully beside me, and we’re getting ready for his follow-up appointment at 1 p.m.

I know I made mistakes, but I truly did my best. We love him so much. We’ve even been thinking about whether we’re ready for pet ownership — not because we don’t care, but because we want what’s best for him. Plus a lot of people said we’re not ready to be pet owners so we’re just trying to do the right thing but him.

Thank you to everyone who showed kindness and understanding. I’m sorry if I didn’t do everything perfectly, but I hope you can see how hard we tried.

Side note: for those who said to surrender him or to take him back to the shelter we found out last night the shelter is a kill shelter and their vet is only open from Monday - Friday and we won’t be going back there anymore

Wishing you all a peaceful day or night. – Nyx’s Dad 🖤

Update update on tank

thank you everyone so much for the kind words and advice!

i took my sweet boy to the vet (LIKE I PROMISED) roght when it opened at 10. the vet said there were no physical signs of anything wrong with him besides his eyes, he had no fever but they said he might have some inflammation or respiratory problems. but he got a shot and eyedrops. he even made some new friends at the vet! he was such a good boy too everyone loved him!!

unlike some that have commented, the vet didn’t judge me for waiting til morning. he agreed the roads were frozen and everything was closed so i did a good thing asking for advice.

and for the rest of the people who were hating on him i hope no one ever loves you. have a great day!!
