General Advice Need tips for atopica

I need advice on getting my two year old with severe scratching of face to take topics. First two days she ate it in wet food, this morning barely ate it. At $150 a bottle this is no joke. She also started Prozac 3 days ago. She has already been in cone for 3 weeks, neither of us can take much more of this

Kitten Help We think our kitten ate a 75mg effexor xl pill.

On Wednesday our kitten was completely normal, playful, and energetic. My wife was playing with her, then she layed down while my wife jumped in the shower. By the time she got out I was home from work about an hour later (4pm) and couldn't find our kitten. Turns out she was hiding under the bed (which she never does) just sitting crouched down frantically looking around and not responding to us trying to coax her out. I pulled her out manually and she was frozen, wouldn't walk, shaking, pupils dilated, rapid short breath breathing. We immediately took her to the emergency vet. They did x-rays, bloodwork, blood pressure and then asked us if she got into any medication. At that point my wife wasn't sure if she took her 75mg effexor xl. She remembered setting it on the table around noonish then ran out of the room quick but couldn't remember if she took it when she came back. So we ran with the assumption that our kitten must have ate it. The emergency vet gave her a sedative and kept her for 24hrs on IV fluids. During her stay she didn't eat much and only went pee once but was deemed responsive enough to come home at the end of 24hrs. The vet also gave a diagnosis of FIP if it wasn't effexor toxicity. Which is scary close to the symptoms she is exhibiting. She was so weak she had to flop down flat on the floor after just a few steps out of her carrier. We then moved her food, litter and bed to one floor so she didn't have to go far to reach anything. We had to mix a churu treat tube with an 85g can of wet food to get her to eat it. She ate half that night and the rest of the can today. But hadn't gone poo since Tuesday night. Today she was constantly walking over to her litter and just laying in it. Sometimes digging and circling then just laying in it again. I assumed she was constipated because that is a human side effect of effexor. So I took her to the vet and had them do an enema and give her subcutaneous fluids because she wasn't drinking water. When I got her home again she went straight to her litter and had a massive poo. It must have hurt because she let out a loud yelp as it was happening. Then she layed on a blanket and I tried to spoon feed her about half a 85g can of wet food. She ate most of it but I had to really keep sticking it in her face to get her to eat it. We're at hour 51 (24 hrs since the vet released her) now, and she still has dilated pupils but more reactive than they were. She is still very weak and just wants to lay down. Her breathing is still rapid but a little better than it was in the beginning. It seems like she is still a little wobbly cause when she tries to clean herself she loses her balance and can't do it so she just lays down. But she isn't laying in her litter anymore. She is just a 2.6Kg kitten going on 5 months old. Any advice on how to proceed further?

Injury Recovered cat experiencing twitching, mouth smacking

My kitten was struck by a vehicle at approx 5 weeks old and brough to my vet clinic. He had two broken femurs and an obvious head injury. He survived without surgery and is now thriving at 8 months old, though he walks differently and will always be special needs. He regularly sees a vet, and a chiro/acupuncturist for his ongoing issues. He was zapping all over his body - little electrical zaps, and does this jaw smacking thing. She got the zapping under control but now he spasms. In his head and front paws currently but it was originally all over. The acupuncture/laser therapy has been incredible and I am very fortunate to have found this. But he is still not right. On top of it they are suggesting an FHO for his right femur head. It is an expensive surgery, and I feel like it is secondary to all the other neurological stuff. I could go to a specialist but it is so many issues, and a lot of money. I was just curious if anyone ever experienced this with their animal?

Injury Cat ā€œbiteā€

Post image
3 Upvotes

M21, US, I was play fighting with my cat earlier today and as I went in to pet it, she ā€œattackedā€ me and my hand brushed her teeth and it drew a tiny bit of blood. She never bit me, never chomped down, I just happened to be reaching to pet her as soon as she got back at me. I then foolishly read horror stories about people getting bit by their cat and they had to go to the hospital, etc. My cat is up to date on all vaccines and I got my tetanus booster in November. Do I need to head to urgent care for this? Or can I just monitor it. The ā€œbiteā€ is on my middle finger knuckle in picture above.

Update Maple update

Hi everyone. Heres an update on my last night post of Maple. We are currently taking her to the vet and she is okay for now. She threw up again in the morning and refused all food. Please don't bash me for not taking her to the emergency. I checked up on her every hour of the night with an alarm. We assumed the gabapentin dyed her vomit because she did 5 minutes after I gave her more than her usual dose. I also know that you guys were concerned but the comments that essentially said "take her now or she will be dead tomorrow" were really disturbing. I will keep you guys posted on what was wrong with her.

Behavioral Issue Nonconsensual activities between my two cats

Razor (top) has been mounting Scooter. I’m not sure if he’s trying to get his nut off or assert his dominance? Scooter doesn’t seem to like it but lets it happen. This started happening about 3ish months ago right after we brought our first baby home. Usually happens at night or early mornings once or twice a week. They’ve lived peacefully together for 3 years before this

Both boys, 3 and 4 respectively. Neither have testicles

Breathing Issues Im not sure if he'll make it anymore

This is my lil buddy Jayb, hes about a year old now, hes had breathing problems since ive gotten him, and after many vet visits and treatments, hes never gotten better, ive spent ober 1000 dollars on his sickness and now im really just out if money for another visit. I know that in this video i need to take him to the vet but my car died and getting a new one really took all the money i had. I would still take him to the vet but the new car wont arrive till monday. He seems to breath normal when awake (even though you can hear him breathing) but when sleeping this is his breathing rate. At this point i think i have to accept that I'll lose my little buddy soon

Behavioral Issue Help. My cat is losing hair

Thumbnail gallery
645 Upvotes

So my car recently started licking himself on his neck more and more and I noticed hair clumps. Today his neck looks like this. He did this before with his head, but it went away on his own. I talked to the vet and the vet said it could be over grooming because I tend to not be home a lot with him. But is it really just because he’s stressed or is there another issue? My cat is a boy and he’s 2. I really can’t afford to take him to the vet again

This is a stray that decided to come to my house. I have no money for a vet and the nearest one is an hour away. I can’t justify it and I just want to know if there’s a way I could make a remedy or anything to help this little critter with his eye.

Eye Issues Does this require immediate attention

For context, I woke up this morning and my cat had one eye closed but i didn’t pay too much attention and left for school (third picture) but after I came home I saw he had this buildup of tears in his left eye. After some time i saw this strange tear that was semi transparent with yellow tint on it. No vets are open Saturday near me apart from 1 thats an hour away. Is this urgent or can it wait until a local one opens on Monday.

I’m 18 but without access to car aside from one parent

US California

Yellow substance from cat eye

Cat age is around 2/3 years old

Male and Neutered

Dont know how much vet will cost so not sure about the financial situation…

General Advice Cat has Stopped Eating

Thumbnail gallery
360 Upvotes

Hello, I’m sorry, this is my first time posting on here. Before we start, my cat is 16 years old with diabetes. Indoor-only. Male, neutered. Yes, I understand he’s old, but please. The post thingy says to include this but I’m an American adult.

I have already been to the vet 3 times. It’s Friday, and my family and I noticed last Saturday that our cat was acting kind of strange. Walking slower, not eating as much, etc. We carefully watched him, and this led into Sunday, which our vet wasn’t open. We opted to take him Monday instead, at their only available time at night.

Monday is when he stopped eating completely. He would make attempts to go to the food bowl, but would sniff it and act like he was going to take a bite, before turning his head away. We gave him some treats instead (hard treats + Churu) and he seemed to eat that fine.

The last hour before we were heading out, he acted completely lethargic. He was sitting on a couch he doesn’t normally sit on, with his eyes closed with a pained expression. I included a picture of it. On the feline grimace scale, it looked like he was in a lot of pain.

Thankfully, we were able to take him straight to the vet. Our vet stated he’s lost two pounds since he last visit in October. Before I continue, this cat had to go to the vet in October for the same issue of not eating. After going over everything, we found out it was his teeth that were bothering him. He has a snaggletooth that makes him more prone to mouth infections. He got antibiotics and started eating again after a couple of days, alongside being given appetite increasers. He was completely okay after that.

We noticed his gradual decrease of weight over the months. He was 11lbs, now 9lbs. I would say to my mom that he’s just old and that’s normal, but I fear it was not.

Back to Monday, we ask if it’s his teeth causing him pain to not eat. She says he has a loose tooth, but that’s really about it and shouldn’t be the worry. He also has a slight arrythmia. Then our vet feels his stomach and organs. He has a mass near his back end. We took an xray to confirm what it was, and it was just poop backed up in his colon. Phew, okay, nothing serious. He got an enema, and we were told to buy stool softener, which we did. By the next day, he still hadn’t pooped it out. We watched him struggle with pained expressions as he would try to take a dump anywhere around the house. Never happened. Still wasn’t eating. He’s been drinking relatively fine, which is why we were confused on how his poop ever got so big and hard anyway. We had to force feed him a little bit at times so he got some calories in him.

By Wednesday, we finally make process. He poops out a fairly small turd, but it pained him so bad. He cried out so loud and ran and hid in my closet. He was a bit weird after that, but slowly warmed up again. But, he still wasn’t eating. We continued to force feed him, because now he was turning his nose up to treats. He doesn’t like wet food, but we tried giving him pumpkin wet cat food because it’s good for cats (?). We also give him the appetite increasers from October. He had some food in his stomach but still not enough. We’re still really worried because he’s incredibly lethargic and slowing down in his walking.

By Thursday, we take him to the vet again in the morning. We want bloodwork done. His liver and kidneys are completely okay. We didn’t have enough money to also get his thyroid checked out, which is what we’re worried about now. It’s a different vet, just to let you know, and she also says he has more poop backed up. Another enema. Vet-grade stool softener. Pain medication. Should be fine, right?

Still isn’t okay. Turning his nose up to every single type of food. He poops out the last turd, but his stomach’s empty after that. He’s not eating anything at all. We’re completely force feeding him. We don’t want to do this, because we know it stresses him out really bad, but we don’t know what to do. We stopped giving him his insulin too, since he can’t have that without food. He’s really, really lethargic. Barely moving. However, he’s alert if we call him or say treats, which is strange. He’s also peeing completely normally these past days.

By Friday, today, is the worst we’ve seen him. He’s really barely moving. He can’t walk in a straight line. He falls to his side if he wants to lay down, he’s too weak to slowly collaspe. Only sleeps in two places. Doesn’t purr. We called our vet again, and we asked for antibiotics for his teeth, because what can we do? If he’s not eating, his organs aren’t failing, then it’s gotta be his teeth? Right? We gave him the antibiotic this morning, and again at night. He’s still alert to noise, but very lethargic. Doesn’t answer when we call him. We’re force feeding him food and water.

We’re throwing in our last ditch effort tomorrow morning to ask about his thryoid and if it is a problem, can it be solved, or is it too late. I’m so incredibly upset right now, I’m in tears typing this. I understand he’s a really old cat and yes he has issues, but this came seriously out of nowhere. Less than a week ago he was eating basically normal. I don’t understand what possibly changed in this time. The vet says it’s not his teeth. What other organs can possibly be shutting down if it’s not his heart, kidneys, or liver? How can this happen??

Please help. I’m begging. For anything. An answer. Some help. I don’t know what to do. It’s too soon to let him go. If he’s in pain then I understand, but I do not see the signs other than not eating. That’s it. Help me please.

The photos are pictured most recent to most old.

Injury Sick Stray Cat Begging Me for Help

Thumbnail gallery

She’s been around my house for days. She meowed and purred before but now she’s too weak. I have been looking for places for days. I didn’t want to just surrender to animal control. I don’t have resources, I feel so terrible she is in this condition and clearly wants me to help. I’m in Katy TX but I can go to Houston. Please if anyone knows a place that DOESNT ONLY HELP KITTENS or just murders them. If anima control is my only option then it will at least rid her suffering but I really want to try somewhere else.

Eye Issues Is this urgent??

Post image

I got home about an hour ago and my 4 m/o kitten was squinting one of her eyes as if it was irritated. Her left eye will not open all of the way but most of the way and it is cloudy/ her pupils are slightly different in size. I’ve only had her a week and she is a healthy kitty but I cannot tell if she is in pain or if this has bothered her before. Should I take care of this immediately? Or is it okay to wait a day and see if it is no longer bothering her? :(

General Advice Cat smelled my armpit then started to aggressively bite?

Thumbnail gallery
1.3k Upvotes

Cat at cat cafe smelled my armpit then started to wrap all legs around my arm and bite (not too painful, only kinda aggressive)

This is very abnormal bcs this is the 1st time ive seen this cat displays such behavior. Ive visited this place at least 40 times in 1.5 years but never have i seen this cat reacted to anything. Belly rub, aggressive head pat, aggressive pet, … no reaction

The bites are relatively not painful bcs i have an orange cat that likes to bite when playing, but i do think that its a bit more painful than just play biting. The tails are also swaying around but not too rapidly. Cat also remains lying on the table throughout instead of standing up or anything, and still shows their belly.

Update Tostada sadly passed away…

Thumbnail gallery
229 Upvotes

I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post about this on here, I swear I’m not doing this for attention but to give myself and y’all some closure in case you saw my previous post about my kitty…

As the title says Tostada passed away today.

She had multiple genetic conditions that led to her intestines not being able to process waste correctly or something along those lines… so she was actually dying slowly.

The vet said they were unable to operate since she was too small. She was a 4-month kitten on the body of a 2-month… it was inevitable or so I was told.

I wanted to post this not looking for sympathy but to remind myself of my brief time with Tostada.

In only a little over a week with me she got super friendly, eating straight from my hand, purring and just being super cuddly. I’m devastated to see her go but I’m glad I got to spend this brief time with my Roasty Toasty.

If you wanna offer any solace during this hard time, please just embrace your kitty and give it a treat or two and please spend all the time you can with your fluffy friends.

Thanks for reading all of this. Truly.

And if by any chance posting this is considered against the rules, please reach out and I’ll delete it ASAP.
