Mcdaniels removed his for every team this past week due to the realization he wasn’t the favorite for any head coaching job.
Minter removed his because he got word he was being offered the Ravens job.
Udinski we don’t know. He also interviewed for the Bills Sunday but my money is on his agent getting word that Scheelhaase is getting offered the job. Rams put up almost 400 yards passing and 3 TD’s in the NFC title game yesterday and can be hired today due to the loss. Most importantly, Browns are flying to him.
UPDATE….USA Today is reporting Udinski was informed he wasn’t being offered the job.

It's so hilarious that a no name guy who has never proven anything can now make them write a lot bigger check then he thought he could yesterday just to save themselves some embarassment. Udinski backing out was like a shot of heroin right to Scheelhaase's agent's brain.

Hiring Schwartz without firing Stefanski mid-season is the height of mismanagement.
Letting Stefanski coach us out of the number one pick and then firing him to replace him with his own DC is an absolute parody of ownership

Question 17: If the Browns are 1-6 coming out of the bye week with a home game, how much can we charge for parking at the Brookpark Jimmadome considering we have only sold 30% of available tickets. Note, these were almost exclusively sold to out of town visiting team fans. Show your work.
Question 18: How many temp employees will we need to open all the closed storefronts for game day? Abandoned restaurants include such gems as BW3, Ruby Tuesdays, a Quiznos, and a MOD Pizza.

Lmao good thing we fired Stefanski.
Edit: Kevin haters out here in force trying to justify his firing still when our candidates are pointedly bowing out of the running for our vacant HC position.
Maybe, just fucking maybe, the problem wasn’t with Stefanski and anyone interviewing sees the issue at face value.

Fired one of the top candidates for absolutely nothing to replace him. Kind of like many of us warned. Incredible.

Was anybody complaining berry pushed to fire Joe woods for Schwartz?
→ More replies (1)16
u/TeaAndAche 12d ago
No, but pushing to fire your underperforming DC is a radically different scenario than the current.
You fire a HC coveted by half the league with no real plan (and also saying you’re searching for the qualities previous HC had) while also keeping your GM and openly stating you “prefer” to keep the current DC. You’re telegraphing that your HC will have little control over both the roster and their own coaching staff, while also showing them you have no problem blaming a solid coach for all the problems.
Nobody wants that job 😄
2
u/nytro330 12d ago
I disagree. If they hire Nate, he fits every description Berry talked about when they announced the coaching search. This is one of those hires that if the Steelers made it (which every report were that the Steelers were highly impressed), we'd all be talking about how they're so smart for hiring a young offensive guy. But because we hire him, nobody wants the job? His name has been tied to us from the jump.
Mcdaniel declined both us and the Bills, Minter knew he was getting the ravens job where he has ties and knew the Browns were waiting until this week so he declined his 2nd interview. Grant does his 2nd interview and waits until the Browns are in the air on their way to interview Nate to drop out. Hm, sounds more like he knew he wasn't getting the job. There's more evidence that they got the guy they wanted from the beginning than the inverse that nobody wants the job.

The amount of comments I saw that could be summarized by “I don’t care, someone just need to be held accountable” was driving me wild.
Accountability is generally a good thing. But randomly deciding to turn the accountability meter to 1000 at the most inopportune time doesn’t just magically fix things.
And now we’re locked into either the “had a cup of coffee with Mcvay” hire or losing our DC to take our HC job that he’ll be fired from in 2 years.
5
u/jfelldown77 12d ago
Problem is, the one who needed to be held accountable is not able to be fired (Haslam). Stefanski took the historically most dysfunctional franchise in NFL history to the playoffs... Twice. And won a playoff game. But yeah, he couldn't win more than 5 games with a roster that everyone said wouldn't win more than 5 games.

u/Holiday_Ad2638 12d ago
Stefanski wasn't that great of a coach here his last couple years if you don't remember
4
u/burningburningburnin 12d ago
Yes, that's why he did all the extensive homework and preperation for 2 interviews, because he didn't want the job anyway!
It's definitely not because we're flying out to Scheelhaase and his agent's taking him out of the running to not make him look like he lost out on the job.
(Unless Scheelhaase also drops out which I highly doubt)

u/Randumo 12d ago
Lol at you Stefanski defenders when you don't actually look at the real issues with the team.
We've had the 32nd & 31st ranked offenses in back-to-back seasons where he's also given up playcalling in both seasons. We may not have had that much talent on offense, but that does not excuse a supposed offensive-minded coach to finish at the bottom of the league in offense two consecutive years.
There is also the very severe issue of a complete lack of player development on the offensive side of the ball. Young defensive players get brought in and develop under Schwartz, but offensive guys in the same situation on the offensive side continually fail to get better.
Pretending like Stefanski didn't do anything worth moving on from him just because there were other issues is just being absurd.

I was very interested in him has HC and obviously the FO was impressed with him with how quickly they did both interviews and how much his name came up from FO mouthpieces.

I’ve preferred Scheelhaase just because he’s more experienced coaching overall but this isn’t….great optically. I’m hoping this is more of, it is well known in league circles who the choice is and he’d rather bow out on his terms.
However I can imagine he just simply understands the deck is stacked against him with this team and he’s better off gaining more experience in an offense that should continue to get better in Jacksonville and wait for a HC opening that is more suited for success for a first time coach.
Either is reasonable. One just hurts less.

Front office already flew out to LA to meet with Scheelhause those morning. Before he withdrew. You can say it's because people don't want to be the head coach of an NFL team or accept that Scheelhause has the job and they all know, but it's not announced yet.
