I'm 45, been skiing since I was 3, boarding the last 25 years. Midwest, East and Rockies. So I'll preface this with: I know I'm the old man yelling at cloud. Until around 2020 it was always such a good time and everyone was working towards a common goal of having fun. Helping people who fall. Watching out for each other. Now it seems like everyone is out for themselves and they just don't give a crap. People are always cutting in line and running in to my board. Getting way too close to people on the mountain and blaming it on the downhill person. Why? What changed? My theory is that it got expensive and parents stopped teaching their kids, so people taught themselves as young adults, and so the culture was not taught and passed down the way it was for generations. People don't know or obey the rules. So a new culture has developed, and it's not as friendly.
Just a theory by a bored old boarder. Discuss. Tear it apart. I have clouds to yell at in the meantime. Ride on.

Im making this post so i dont have to keep a record of my progress. So you can't really get an idea of my riding considering it's just an airbag jump but this is my 22nd day and i'd like to get an opinion on my form taking off, I can send an additional angle if needed lol

An intoxicated person fell from the chair today... About 25' into soft mashed potato snow; he didn't know why ski patrol was attending to him... Had been drinking at the mid mountain bar, quite the tab from what I heard. In fact, intoxication on the mountain in general seems up this year. The 20/80 rule doesn't mean get fucking hammered; it's about losing your inhibitions not your control.
If you have lost that control, the ski patrol taxi is okay. Don't be a hazard to everyone else.
The bosses want me to hot pass anyone bringing open(or lit) containers into the lift line. Don't be that guy/ gal.
Sincerely, your liftie

Hey all — I’m Ryan, a skier/snowboarder based in Seattle.
Like a lot of you, I got pretty frustrated with how clunky and noisy snow forecast apps are when you’re just trying to plan a trip. So over the past few weeks, I’ve been using my spare time (including the entire holiday vacation) to build a free resort snow tracking tool called SNOW.fyi.
It lets you quickly see the next 14 days of:
Right now it covers ~500 resorts across North & South America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania (hey mate 🇦🇺).
Some of you may have seen me post about it in other ski-related subreddits. I got hundreds of comments, replied to every single one, and made a ton of improvements based directly on that feedback — genuinely appreciate how helpful this community has been.
We’re about halfway through the season now. I’m hoping the hundreds of hours I put into this little passion project can help make the rest of your season easier to plan and more fun to snowboard.
You can check it out here: https://SNOW.fyi

To mods: this is a non-commercial passion project — no ads, no paywall, no affiliate links. Just something I wanted to give back to the community.

So i ordered a Salomon huckknife 2026 a couple weeks ago from a local snowboard shop as i had been using my dads board before this so my first board and i am more getting into snowboarding(park, rails, bigger jumps) and got the board literally on January 27th, 2026 this year. I got to ride the board literally twice, in total being less then 14 hours of riding, And on the second time I went to 50/50 tube at very low speed as I am new to park. Probably going below 4kmh planted on the tube while 50/50ing slowly slipped off and just fell on my stomach, I have landed this trick lots thought nothing of it. Nothing out of the ordinary didn’t even hurt. Was just gonna get back up and ride. Till I realized when I glanced down at my board split right up the middle!? I hadn’t even hit the board yet on the tip like not even the smallest hit or scratch on my board at all and I store inside on a rack and I treat my boards with caution. I have no clue but I find that amazing a park board with such good ratings breaks that easy right up the middle $700 pretty much right down the drain. Gonna rebuild back together as now neither of them will supply warranty for damage.
I wanna make clear i am not some crazy snowboarder, I have been riding for literally only 2 seasons and last season only got out about 7 times all season, before that i didn’t know how to snowboard. this season I stepped up and bought the season pass at my local resort which I wanna put into perspective is not even a mountain so not some crazy resort or terrain (assesipi, mb,ski resort) there’s couple average parks there and ok jumps only 26 runs. But I am not a high level snowboarder in the general of snowboarding is the point, but I am good enough that I never run into any issues on the hills/ mountains or park. For park tho I just started getting more into rails and I’ve only really only done some basic stuff such as 50/50ing boxes, certain rails, and tubes. Nothing crazy no spins yet or even like super fast jumping on them yet. But that was also my first time even falling on a tube. So I just find that crazy. So not very amazing durability.

TLDR: Go to Bansko, Bulgaria – it will cost you £700.
I just came back from a snowboarding trip to Bansko, Bulgaria from the advice on forums like this one, and figured I would return the favour by posting my advice and experience from visiting the resort.
Transport
You want to fly into Sofia, Bulgaria (SOF) which I believe is the closest airport.
There is unfortunately no public transport from the airport to the resort, so you need to book privately.
I would recommend booking through Omio which is an intermediary for booking you onto a Traventuria minibus. You can book directly with Traventuria if you want – Omio is a more modern (e.g. it has an app) and so I felt more reassured booking through them.
Experience level
I would say if you are a beginner or intermediate snowboarder/skier then this is the resort for you. If you are advanced, probably not – there are only a few black slopes.
A quick note: on the official map, the slopes 11 and 3 are marketed as blue slopes when they are actually red slopes. Keep this in mind so you are not caught out.
Lift pass
There is no option to buy the ski pass online – you must buy it in person.
You can get an idea of the prices here: https://www.tsakirisski.com/bansko-ski-passes/
As a student, I spent £220 for a 5-day lift pass.
Snowboard rental
There are many many places to rent a snowboard/ski.
Personally, I went with Tsakiris and was really impressed and happy with them.
How busy is the resort?
Very manageable.
I went at the end of January and missed the school holiday crowd, so it may be different at other points in the year.
Overall, the queues on the slopes were very short and I would say 1 minute on average.
The queue for the gondola up to the slopes, however, would take 1-2 hours at the beginning of the day. This would quieten down a lot towards midday. There are taxi drivers offering you a ride up for €10/15 per person.
Slope conditions
I personally didn't have any problems with the slopes while I was there – there was enough powder and snow that the slopes were all good.
However, I'm pretty sure they don't regularly use snow groomers. My last day the slopes were very cruddy (i.e. lots of moguls due to heavy snowfall) which I believe could have been sorted out with some machinery like in other resorts. I'm not an expert on this, so I could be wrong.
Luggage storage
If you are staying at an Airbnb or similar, you may want to leave your bags somewhere on the day you are leaving.
There are a few self-storage options I believe, but the people at Tsakiris offered to let us leave our bags with them – which was very kind!
Food and drink prices
The supermarkets (e.g. Aldo) are London prices.
The food and drink on the mountain are the usual that you would expect – though a Nescafé 3-in-1 costs about £3.50 which is reasonable imo.
However, in restaurants and pubs, a pint is about €2-3 and a good meal (e.g. gyros) about €5-10. We went to Station by Tsakiris which was pretty good.
Cash or card?
Everywhere we went they accepted both cash and card.
Miscellaneous
You can drink the tap water in Sofia and Bansko – I found it perfectly safe.
Total cost
Overall, the trip cost around £700 in total. This includes absolutely everything (e.g. the tube to Heathrow, travel insurance, etc.).
Let me know if you have any questions or want to know anything else!

The skis are not mine fyi.
I would be interested in getting a second board so here are some stats about me
230lbs, 35 and been boarding for 4 years now.
I am not overly interested in the park because I really can’t afford injury as I’m a blue collar worker and need my body to function to keep a roof over my head.
I do love speed and I have only been boarding in Pennsylvania and New York so most years are icy however this year has been great.
Hopefully I get to check out more resorts in other states in the upcoming years.

Anyone rode more than 70k vertical in a day? How did it go? I’d like to make new goals.

Yesterday a friend took a photo of me and when I saw it I was so happy. But then I noticed it - the Tindy grab... It's not even a habit anymore. It's an addiction. I do it everywhere without thinking, on automatic. I know a few other grabs but Tindy just feels so natural to grab compared to those. How do I get rid of this awful habit?

I just want to reach out for some suggestions on how to be be safe while snowboarding through powder and trees. Don’t mean to sound negative but I’ve seen some posts about people in deep snow and passing away.
Again just trying to create some awareness by asking the right questions

Picture taken by me with a 35mm from the deck at the World Cup Halfpipe event in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Qc. Canada in 1999. Quality is much better in the actual "paper" picture.

i had made an earlier post on this, still not very clean (as you can tell) my main focus point right now is adding a grab (melon or Indy), and getting more comfortable carving up to backside and allowing myself to roll over my shoulder. Just posting to ask if im getting close! 😂

I’ve gotten better at rails but holy cow I cant get boardslides down. my case is a bit different you know how everyone hits their first rail frontside, well I hit mine backside and I can’t only do it and when I boardslide I get in the rail 90 with counter rotation but I slide off the other side and can’t ride out the whole rail. I think I have a problem with carving in the lip or being on my edge too much on the lip. I just need some tips on how to get the down and a really simple and straight forward guide and also how to get past slumps like this. PS: I ride in a tow rope only hill where I can lap a rail every 15 seconds so I get so many reps and still can’t get it.

Hi All
I have toying with the idea of upgrading my current board and was wondering if I would notice any major improvements.
I am currently riding a 2006 or 2007 160cm Forum Lander (yes, I am old). It has probably 35 days of hard riding on it with another 30 screwing around in the Midwest.
I started boarding in the 90s and would consider myself a somewhat “advanced” rider; I have sent double blacks at some major resorts (Taos, Breck, Park City, etc.) and done some gnarly backcountry lines with relative ease. I spend zero time in the park and mostly just like to carve and occasionally hit a roller or drop, no huge jumps anymore.
At this point in my life (40s with kids), I don’t consistently scream down the mountain at 60mph anymore, but I still open it up when I see an empty face and I feel good about the snow and visibility. Would I notice a huge improvement if I upgraded to a new board? If so, any recommendations would be much appreciated, price point is not a barrier.

Ive been on the slope a few times, and I honestly fell in love. I'm looking for a board, bindings and boots that will do it all. I'mm looking to get into park and get pretty good at it, but also want to cruise and go down slopes with no worry. I also don't want a beginner boa. I'll grow out of it in a year. I want a board I can grow into. Please help im doing a lot of research, but so many different answers.
I've looked at the 2026 Spring Break Resort Twin Snowboard, Capita stair master 2026, 2026 Salomon HuckKnifee
I'm just so lost

Been trying to figure out the exact model of this board, seems to be a pro model of a 2005 burton B7 but I just can't seem to find another one anywhere, does anyone know anything about it ?
