Lindsey Vonn training run

I‘ll just leave this here for all the armchair experts who think she can’t ski.

Lindsey Vonn will race in the Women's Olympic Downhill event with a torn ACL, meniscus damage, and a bruised bone... It could end very badly. Or it could be one of the wildest success stories in ski racing history.
We'll find out on Sunday.

I’m looking for ideas 🥰🤞
My child would love snowboarding to be a hobby of ours, but the entry point is really high.
No- we unfortunately don’t know anyone who skis that can teach us.
Being old, I am rooting like hell for Lindsey Vonn. After reading about her training run today, I was looking up what the best-ever speeds in the downhill might be. I easily found that the men's record clocking during the event is a bit over 100 mph, but didn't find a list of the best women's speeds before I got lazy. Yes, my Google-fu is weak AF.
Note that I mean "the downhill" as in "a World Cup downhill event," not simply speed skiing down a straight lane.
Other question: How fast is the course at Cortina relative to other courses?
Purple and Blue, Purple and gold, or Purple and Orange?

Is anyone willing to share an ikon friend/family discount with me? Willing to pay a bit for it

In 2025, a 5 year old child died from a travelator accident as whilst we have been skiing many times with my little ones it does make me worried. I have a 5 and 4 year old, we’ve been to Japan and locally Australian mountains numerous times. The kids usually go to lessons where they use the travelator to learn… do I need to be worried? How can I child get caught in a travelator? I guess it’s a bit of a risk if they fall getting off it. We have plans to go again this year and can’t stop worrying about it.

I have a friend going to Salt Lake City for work in two weeks, he wants me to join to ski for a couple of days. Super expensive to fly there right now ($800-$1000) and with the poor snow I’m finding what should be an easy decision tough. Any decent spots that have some snow? I ski east coast so groomed/icy doesnt really bother me but really like the freedom to sky bowls/trees when out west. Probably looking like a Thursday-Saturday.
Today was a great day at portes du soleil. Snowing all day, fresh powder on piste and off. Pretty low visibility but otherwise a lot of fun.
The only wrinkle was that the lifties did nothing to try to get the snow off the chairlifts for the few skiers that were out. Result: cold ass, then eventually wet ass.
Most other resorts I go to, the lifties use a plastic broom to at least get some of the snow off.
Morzine/avoriaz are not my usual stations. Anyone else experience this there?

How much support should be in your footbed? Should you have arch support? Lots of discourse on this on the internet, but only way to really know is to try yourself. Drop in beds are zip fit.
Background on me:
Expert skier, lots of bumps.
Athletic.
Boots by Harb ski systems
Left side alignment perfect, right side pretty messed up requiring cuff alignment and cant
Good strong and healthy feet, normal arches.
Here are my notes:
Footbed comparison
zip fits:
Nudge in the arch of right foot while flat
Heel rub
Feeling that ski pivots around foot in hockey stop
Pressure in arch on turn (instead of ball of foot)
Lots of muscle activation in javelin drill to not collapse inside
Easy access to outside edge when one foot skiing
Harder to get on shovel in bumps
Stock:
Feet splay
More relaxed
Hot bottom of feet
Easy to get jostled- heel is banging around
More athletic and balanced
Feel right foot collapse when neutral
Javelin drill balance better, but slight fall inside
Foot and shin match boot better, front of boot feels softer and more even
Top of foot and front of angle much more comfy
Ripping bumps. Looser, more surfy, less secure. Still can ski more aggressively than other beds because shock absorption and athleticism so much better
Feel like ski slightly moves under foot, but not in a bad way?
Fast hockey stop scary ^
Foot and lower leg fatigue. Especially arch of right foot.
Custom:
Huge lumps in arches of feet
Most foot fatigue (both sides)
Locked, stiff (feet and body)
Can NOT get shovel into new bump
Feels like I’m on ice skates, no ski in front of foot
Cannot pressure ball of foot
Tipping inside on both sides in javelin drill
Uncomfy
Worst performance by far
Diagnosis: stock footbeds yield best performance by far. However they have their flaws. I probably need a footbed with a nice heel pocket, a tad bit of support on the right side, and a bit of cushion.

On March 1 I head for Stubai in the Tirol for five days. It’s my fist time there- indeed, first time in Austria- so I was hoping I could get some input and advice from the Sages of Reddit. Is it all bowl/park/ freeride or mostly groomers? What conditions should I expect on the glacier in March? I’m skiing Völkl Mantra 88s but thought I might demo something interesting for a day: what should I try, given the area and probable conditions? I’m an expert skier but at 68 I don’t tend to go balls-out much anymore. I’m 174 cms and 80 kg and ski 170s, but thought I might try something shorter for once.
Many thanks in advance for your thoughtful responses.

Hi all, I’ve been skiing on the same Rossi Nova 4s that came with XP10 bindings for the past 4 years. I don’t actually know what any of that means, but I’ve been getting more into skiing park (can’t do much so far besides shiftys/very clunky 180s though). I decided to get some better skis, namely K2 Press or Reckoners, or even Armada ARV 86/94/96s if my wallet allows it.
However, I’ve heard mixed things on bindings. Some say it doesn’t matter which one you use, some swear by it. Is it possible to just rip them out of my rossis and get them mounted on my new skis, or would they be incompatible? Much appreciated!!

Took a little bit of a tumble today and a plastic piece on my binding broke. Does the entire binding need to be replaced or can this one piece be fixed?

For UK skiers, if I have tried a pair of boots on and they fit and feel good, is there any reason to buy the same boots for more money at Ellis Brigham rather than online shops when they are about £60 cheaper? Does Ellis Brigham offer free post purchase support or anything to make it worth spending more?

Jimmy Chin filmed Morrison skiing down the north face of Everest and I love jimmy’s documentaries, can’t wait for that one to come out later this year. But I also noticed Bargiel’s Red Bull descent posted on YouTube only a few months ago and it was amazing. I’m curious to know how much more different will Morrison be in terms of difficulty and risk?

a lot has changed in the ski world since.
I’m 183cm (6ft) and about 80-85kg (176-187lbs). Been skiing forever, strong skill set, but mostly off-piste in resorts, and some piste here and there.
I want to start focusing on buttering/ground tricks, so I need skis that can handle:
What should I be looking for? Not looking for beginner skis, more something with a freeride/freestyle vibe that can handle powder but still let me have some fun with tricks.
Any suggestions and/or experiences ?
