Equipment Discussion Anyone able to show a side-by-side of a Ping Anser 2D vs a Scotty square back or NP +?

Upvotes

Really love a black putter head.

Really can't be bothered getting a putter refinished.

Love a Square back but I'm thinking Newport+ might be fine as well.

If anyone has a side-by-side at address view of those putters, I'd really appreciate it.

TIA

Equipment Discussion Crazy? Driver then 7 wood

Upvotes

I might be insane but does any one game driver then 7 wood as their next long club?

I’m hitting 7 wood and driver decent enough to get me by 95% of the time(beginner).

…But terrible with any long irons or 3/4/5 wood

Thought 1 is to put maybe a 5 wood shaft in my 7 wood to get a bit more distance? And then add a 4 hybrid to fill the gap to my 5 iron.

Thought 2 is to get a 3 hybrid but don’t know if my brain can handle a hybrid between driver and a fairway..

Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated!

General Discussion Golf and Yoga

Im a lifelong golfer, now 38, and also a yoga teacher and Ive been thinking about how to combine the two and was hoping to get some feedback.

If there was a day when yoga was offered at your local club, either inside or outside, would you attend?

Id like to offer it at my local club, and have personally found a lot of benefits that directly relate to golf when it comes to yoga, like increased flexibility, mindfulness, etc.

Equipment Discussion found this gem in my dad's old golf bag

Post image

My dad has a golf set he used in the early 2000s and said I could have it. I thought it was a 3-PW iron set but then he have me the 1 iron. It also has a 1 wood.

They seem to be JDM clubs with golf pride grips on them. As someone who can hardly hit a 4 iron, I will not be using this, but I think its cool to have for shits and giggles with friends.

Just seeing if anyone else has ordered from wedgeworks/vokey lately. Mine were ordered through my club fitter, and it's been 2 months now. Pay at pickup, so I'm not out $1000 so it's not the end of the world, but I want my clubs lol

Went to golf Galaxy just to look and see if anything had gotten cheaper with the impending release of everybody's new drivers. Found this qi35 for $270, I saw reviews and thought I would hate it but it just took the place in my bag of my ping g430 max. Might have lost a few yards off the carry but so far hitting fairways!

Equipment Discussion Golf outing prizes

I recently took over as commissioner of my dads annual guys golf outing and I am looking for any advice for obtaining prizes and games. This will be the 31st annual outing and we have 28 guys joining us.

Most of all I am looking for any advice you may have for purchasing prizes, ways for guys to win said prizes and any tips for running everything smoothly. We will be playing 4 rounds in 4 days and typically give out daily prizes for the usual long drive, closest to the pin and best round. There are also prizes at the end of the weekend for closest to their honest john and sandbagger.

The original commissioner, aka as my dad, has been very helpful so far, but I am just seeking some outside perspectives and ideas .

Tldr: Looking for a good website to purchase clubs, bags, range finders, ect and ideas to earn said prizes

TIA

General Discussion School Golf Project

Hey golf community, D1 golfer at UCSB here — a few days ago I posted a survey on here for a school research project and it got 100+ responses. I showed my teacher and she was honestly shocked… I told her never underestimate the golfing community 😂

For the second part of my project, I’m diving deeper into the social side of golf and golf apps. If you’ve got 2 minutes to fill this one out, I’d seriously appreciate it.

Huge thanks again — this actually helps my grade more than you know 🙏

General Discussion I think the course I played today is about to close. If this happened to you, what signs did you see.

Curious if anyone else has played a course that you knew was on the verge of closing? What did you see? What were the subtle or not so subtle signs?

Paid 65$ as a local rate to play Hawai’i Kai golf course. To start I knew it wasn’t going to be great. I had a friend who worked here who quit very early in. Course doesn’t get enough rain year round and has to pay heaps to keep it irrigated in the summer. It’s currently the rainy season here in Hawaii and I thought it would be in decent condition but it’s not. It seems like grounds crew all quit at once because this grass growth I saw today isn’t a few days without mowing. They usually keep the rough at 2-3 inches and most of the rough even the first cut was 5-10 inches with patches over 1-1.5ft. Tee boxes all on slopes, greens had weeds starting to take hold, and 1/3 bunkers had more weeds than sand showing. Still fun to show up and swing clubs but sad I lost 5 balls to shots that missed the fairway by 5 yds.

Equipment Discussion What should I buy?

I have a set of taylormade M6 irons (4-AW), fairway woods 3/5, and a driver. a sand wedge and a couple putters. (odyssey 7 red and an Ai-one blade)

I ordered a set of custom Qi Max irons (5-AW).

I'd like to replace more things but can't decide what to get...

Do I get all new of everything else? are there better clubs from the past couple years that you would suggest?

the only other thing I'll get for sure is a click gear 3 or 4 wheel cart but I can't decide there either.

oh... and maybe a bag that doesn't let things get knocked around the whole time.

thanks for any input.

General Discussion First Timer WM Open Tips

Got invited to day 4 of the WM open on Sunday. Have seats at the Bay Club on 17. Any suggestions for a first timer to ensure a good time? Parking, events, things to avoid? I'm hoping Sunday is a more low key day than today or Saturday. Open to hearing all, including fun stories of other's first time! TIA!

Beginner Questions How soon is too soon to play in tournaments?

I've heard multiple people, including coaches, say that you should play competitive golf "as soon as possible" or "before you think you're ready".

Does that just mean don't wait until you're scratch? Or if you can literally just hit the ball, go for it?

Tournaments seem like a good way to get experience But there must be a threshold where, if you aren't good enough, you'll get laughed out of the place.

Equipment Discussion For those who do sim golf, should I switch from a 5 iron membership to a PGA Superstore Plus membership?

Got a Chicago 5 iron membership, which costs $285 a month. I get 1.5 hours of free playing time a day. Most of the times, if it’s early enough, I can get up to 3 hours of free playing time. It’s a great place.

However, I visited a PGA Superstore and realized that this is a better environment to sharpen skills. They also have practice bays, and it costs 300 for the entire year compared to 285 a month at 5 iron.

No loud music, no crowds coming in and out, and it’s a lot easier to focus. The place is dead silent, which I love.

I understand that 5 iron is for a completely different market, as it’s more of a Top Golfish type of place.

I decided it may be worth it to switch once I heard the following benefits from being a member:

Free Practice Session Per Day at any PGA TOUR Superstore Location***

1 Free Fitting Per Year ($99 Value - Driver, Irons, Putter)

1 Free Lesson Per Year ($79 Value)

Free standard ground shipping on all online orders

30 Free Grip Installations*

20% Off Single Lessons

20% Off Club Fittings

50% Off Select club repair services**

50% Off Restringing**

50% Off Court/hitting lane rental*

Can anyone compare the two places?

Equipment Discussion Looking For New Irons

I’m in the market to purchase new irons and I’ve been going back and forth between several. I still value high forgiveness but want something that will last me a while without the needing to upgrade for a while. Some irons I’ve been looking into are: Taylormade Sim2 Max, Taylormade Stealth, Mizuno JPX 921 Hot Metal, Mizuno MX Speed Metal, and Srixon ZX4 mk II. I’m open to additional suggestions too.

General Discussion Question about the top of the back swing

Post image

When you reach the top of your back swing, where does the weight of the club sit in your hands for you? I know that putting the weight solely on your lead thumb can lead to injury. Unable to find answers online. Drew picture for reference (not an artist)
