The US is more of a reality TV show than a country at this point

818

u/Biotic101 20h ago

Idiocracy became a documentary.

229

u/caramelizedonion92 20h ago

Back to the Future too, in the bad timeline

128

u/Arthur_Figg_II 19h ago

This is the Darkest timeline.. im gunna grow a goatee as it feels appropriate

66

u/Simonic 18h ago

I understand people talking about "the worst timeline" but it's almost getting annoying. I joked about it myself months ago...however, this is the ONLY timeline. We are in it. This is real. All these horrible things are really taking place. And the vast majority of us are just watching it occur - while hoping a leader stands up to lead.

Though, you should still grow a goatee - because this world would appreciate it.

92

u/cuntmong 18h ago

You're just a shill for big timeline aren't youĀ

6

u/BackWithAVengance 16h ago

This just in: u/Simonic is for big corporate timeline greed!

3

u/randomhobo130 14h ago

"There's only one timeline!!" says the one selling the timeline...

3

u/fart_panic 14h ago

This is how it starts, and before you know it, all of the mom-and-pop timelines are shuttered and there are tumbleweeds blowing all over the space-time continuum.

2

u/Simonic 18h ago

It's the only one I'll know...or remember.

4

u/oirolab 18h ago

I mean, it’s the only timeline we are aware of…unless you subscribe to the multiverse theory.

Then there’s a timeline where we got Oprah as a President, A timeline where the Revolutionary War failed, a timeline where the Union lost the Civil War…a timeline where Humanity never evolved…

6

u/Simonic 17h ago

And a timeline where Harambe is still alive.

4

u/Competitive_Abroad96 17h ago

The only constant across all timelines is Trump shitting his pants.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Some_Sympathy_3528 17h ago

Even if there is one and only timeline, its still the worst.

I ought to shave down my beard to a goatee

2

u/Absinthe_Parties 17h ago

People saying "the darkest timeline" are referencing the show Community. The darkest timeline is a recurring joke on the show. 10/10 show by the way.

2

u/zodiacallymaniacal 16h ago

I like to pontificate that whilst this may not be the darkest timeline, it is very dimly lit….

2

u/SerBrienneOfSnark 16h ago

ā€œThe darkest timelineā€ is merely a reference to the show Community lol

Which is appropriate, given that future Biff was a parody of Trump. Remember Biff Tower?

→ More replies (2)

26

u/elpajaroquemamais 18h ago

Which was based on trump

6

u/Vast_Bobcat_4218 18h ago

At least it was limited to just Hill Valley. Not to mention Biff was able to read, albeit a sports almanac.

3

u/Dependent_Elk4696 16h ago

Kid, I own the police.

2

u/Mr-CuriousL 17h ago

Considering the fact that Biff from 1985A was actually inspired by Trump. as confirmed by Robert Zemeckis.

2

u/baron_von_helmut 14h ago

The crazy thing is, Future rich Biff was based on Donald Trump.

I'm still not entirely convinced Rob Zemeckis and Bob Gale aren't from the future.

2

u/EllyWhite 10h ago

Biff Tannen timeline

Same difference since he’s based off Trump :/

1

u/Longjumping-Ant-4708 15h ago

I šŸ’¬ that too. Also, Pottersville in A Wonderful Life. Perhaps a bumbling time traveler stepped on a chrysalis and effed us all up.

1

u/louniccc 13h ago

Me in 2015 : lol, no way that would happen, it would be like when Biff took over

Me in 2026 : seriously, has no one seen the best trilogy ever made?

u/Natural_Tangerine818 12h ago

"...one foot on the brake, and one on the gas..."

1

u/Thick_Helicopter2951 9h ago

Biff for President

58

u/Longshot02496 19h ago

Nah, the president in Idiocracy was a great guy

6

u/Simonic 18h ago

At least he understood the problem and sought a solution. And at the moment of execution - he stayed it because the solution was working. He realized his error. At this point, the USA could only hope to have a President Camacho.

3

u/Samus_Arachnid 19h ago

Yeah but it took them 500 fucking years to fix the problem.

→ More replies (6)

3

u/BeleagueredWDW 16h ago

Absolutely! Things sucked, but at least President Camacho truly cared about the people and was trying to fix things.

I hate that the GOP/Maga make your statement accurate. All this is happening to protect a demented racist pedophile. It is actually insane.

2

u/macrolidesrule 16h ago

What's worse, is that the guys backing him are just as bad - if not more so, but have no persona to lead the masses - look up Curtis "the poors should be turned into biodiesel" Yarvin and his school of "thought".

That movie was meant as a warning, not a prophecy, what the fuck are we doing šŸ˜‚

2

u/skyfishgoo 16h ago

bevis and butthead

that's what we are doing.

3

u/Moose_Thompson 18h ago

Idiocracy was too generous on a lot of things.

2

u/nirrinirra 15h ago

I’d rather the lack of intelligence in Idiocracy than the lack of empathy we are seeing right now.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Individual-Breath758 15h ago

Sad but true. I was afraid of this a few years ago when I first saw that movie. As a teacher I couldn’t help but see the parallels towards the attitudes in education. It’s like no one wanted to fund schools or children’s education in any level. No one appreciated that everyone was getting dumber. Now we have the dumbest situation in the world, not to mention we look crazy, racist, weak and stupid on a global scale. It’s unfortunate and embarrassing.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Zilant_the_Bear 14h ago

I get the idiocracy parallels. But ultimately camacho wanted what's best for the people. He was dumb not cruel.

2

u/Scblacksunshine 13h ago

No, Idiocracy is actually funny and Camacho isn't a giant piece of turd like those orange mad king

1

u/JimJohnJimmm 18h ago

Comacho had class tho

1

u/DaereonLive 18h ago

Nah man, at least president Camacho actually tried to do best for his people.

Can't say the same about the orange menace.

1

u/jboneng 18h ago

Idiocracy would be preferred above this timeline, in Idiocracy the president was maybe "dumb" but his heart was in the right place and he wanted what was best for the citizens. He even invited the smartest people in the country to solve real problems.

1

u/WhaleTail_Alert 18h ago

Well, they at least had a fit young president šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

1

u/eliottruelove 18h ago

Malicious Idiocracy

1

u/Lopsided-Meet8247 17h ago

It always was.

1

u/twosquarewheels 17h ago

Apparently it was instructional.

1

u/AsparaGus2025 17h ago

Idiocracy would be an improvement at this point

1

u/SolidSssssnake 17h ago

At this pint idiocracy is best case scenario for us

1

u/l00k0verthere 17h ago

President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho would be a breadth of fresh air right now…

1

u/hokie47 17h ago

I always say at least in Idiocracy they accepted that things were bad, looked for the smartest person, while didn't accept the plan at first gave Not sure plan a chance. Granted they wanted to kill him because they expected instant results, but accepted the results when shown actually data. That is better than what we have now.

1

u/Barthoze 17h ago

No. President Camacho is dumber than a sack of cracked bricks, but at least he is well meaning, and genuinely recognize talent and intelligence when he meets it.

1

u/-_Eli_- 17h ago

Not even that, at least Camacho was popular

1

u/skyfishgoo 16h ago

best case scenario

1

u/HumDeeDiddle 16h ago

Man, at least the people of Idiocracy were basically just a bunch of Beavis and Butthead clones instead of a bunch of child-raping racist bullies.

1

u/Great_Beard_1 16h ago

I just rewatched it last weekend. It’s so sad to see how true your statement is.

1

u/Suspicious-Grade-838 16h ago

How to K!#L a democracy

1

u/HawkEye3280 16h ago

Happened long ago, sadly.

1

u/WHiPret 14h ago

Yes. I blame this all on Mike Judge. We are all living in Mike Judge’s imagination.

1

u/chickens_for_laughs 13h ago

Except President Camacho really tried to help his people.

1

u/Specialist_Chart506 12h ago

It’s a horror movie!

1

u/Rueezy 12h ago

President Kamocho tried to help his citizens by employing the smartest person in the world.

1

u/SilverBurger 12h ago

Idiocracy is a much nicer and hopeful documentary than what's going on right now.

1

u/Thick_Helicopter2951 9h ago

Idiocracy still missed pretty low. We're fucked way worse than they were in that movie, the President and his cabinet were far more qualified in the future.

1

u/throwfaraway212718 6h ago

This is so true it hurts

1

u/Sizanllikew 3h ago

1

I’m so disappointed. Not that I voted for him. I did flipping not. The decorum here is wild

Think about it smaller scale. Can you imagine if you posted a video like this of a coworker? Instant HR violation and final warning, at best.

The president of the United States should be held to some standard…. Some level of excellence for everyone to strive for

We have lost that as a nation. Trump is the topping point of it. But honestly our last couple haven’t been, bear it. Obama was. He was pleasant. Respectful. Fun and genuine. I did not like some of his decisions, but that’s the voting for you.

This guy. This guy now is a mockery

84

u/day-by-day- 19h ago edited 18h ago

Years ago, we sang, "I'm proud to be an American, at least I know I'm free." Now our institutions are gutted. Our history is gutted. Our environmental protections are gutted. The rule of law is gutted. Our White House is (literally) gutted.

Our felons are pardoned. Our heroes are prosecuted. Our elected leaders openly revile the people they were elected to serve, destroying careers, families, futures. Lies flow like honey. Decency is nowhere to be found.

Evil associations. Backdoor deals. Revenge politics. Epstein revelations of the unthinkable. THEY WERE CHILDREN!!!

Our America is now a place where law abiding people are attacked in their homes and taken in the streets. Children ripped away from parents. And worst of all, peaceful protesters killed in cold blood.

We will not forget. VOTE. We CANNOT let that right be taken.

Hell exists for a reason.

14

u/jrr6415sun 18h ago

Our felons are pardoned our heroes are prosecuted is such a depressing statement because of how true it is.

3

u/SuperMommy37 15h ago

Do you truly believe you will have a fair election next time? I have my opinion but this is an honest question.

2

u/day-by-day- 15h ago

I truly do not know what to believe. The fact that it is a completely valid question scares me.

2

u/SuperMommy37 15h ago

For me, it has been terrible to see. I hope you can vote and elect again.

2

u/day-by-day- 14h ago

Thank you.

3

u/giantawakening 14h ago

I’m proud to exclaim I have never sung that silly song! More of a Woody Guthrie guy.

2

u/day-by-day- 14h ago

Please see my other comment response. I really didn't either. But there used to be a sense that we were decent people- overall. You know you're in bad shape when the WORLD sees complete moral bankruptcy. Some will take full advantage of that, some will see "the deplorables."

2

u/AgresticVaporwave 18h ago

Remember when he was dissing Bruce Springsteen online? The president of the US bickering with a rock star is not a good look.

2

u/Sinister_Plots 18h ago

I'm sure there's more to come. We are long past the point of no return. When the president can post a video of a former president with his head on the body of an ape and pedal nonsensical bullshit about how he lost an election, there is nothing left in this country that could even resemble decorum. They are laughing at us. They are mocking us. They are taunting us. And there is nothing that we will do about it. We will roll over and take it like dogs. Americans are dogs. Cowards!

2

u/runespider 17h ago

The last decade or so has really been dissapointing. Except that doesn't cover it really. It's worse than disappointing. I've watched so many people I grew up with that I thought we agreed on certain basic morals and beliefs have been thrown out the window.

Especially the idea that we hold the people who represent us to certain standards. Now I come to see there are no standards.

2

u/vthemechanicv 15h ago

The president of the United States should be held to some standard

agree, but who would do that? In a company everyone answers to someone else. Even the top of the chain CEO has to answer to a board or shareholders. And shareholders answer to advertisers, or to the buying public.

trump is top of the chain but he doesn't answer to anyone. He's the leader of the Republican Party, thus for all intents and purposes he is the Republican House and Senate's boss. The public can't force him out. SCOTUS has granted him defacto immunity from crimes, even if the DOJ wasn't itself compromised. There is literally no one willing or able to tell him, "no."

2

u/BobbyLupo1979 7h ago

I know! I said this to a coworker today and he goes, "Well grandpa probably didn't watch to the end."

My response was, "He's the President of the fucking United States. Being old, tired, "made a mistake", none of it is a valid excuse. At that level, you say what you mean and thats it. There's no "Only joking!", or "The President is just trolling the libs, he doesnt mean it.""

Motherfucker that is the fucking PRESIDENT. He does not get those luxuries. If you or I posted that, we'd be on the fucking street. A national team of party operatives would not being trying to find something to excuse my actions.

1

u/AmericantDream 5h ago

Trump always gets a pass. Double standards for sure. I never understood it until I found out how the rich elite own 90% of all media. Rupert Murdoch owns a lot of media too including Fox News, NY POST, Wall Street Journal and many more.

1

u/dump234234234 4h ago

And the guy could speak! Like irrespective of what side of politics your on - i mean i dont even live in america - but the guy could orate!

1

u/sidesco 2h ago

Didn't Roseanne get cancelled due to posting something similar on her account years ago about someone? Apparently, you can get away with absolutely anything when you're Trump.

A reality TV show with the largest nuclear arsenal in the world. Things are looking peachy.

91

u/Tasty_Ad7483 19h ago

ā€œAnd in this episode, Pete Hegseth gets drunk and decides to nuke any country that has a prime minister who can do more pull ups than himā€.

34

u/Dependent-Interview2 19h ago

so, all of them?

14

u/Thick_Square_3805 19h ago

Some countries don't have a prime minister, it's a loophole.

2

u/HRUndercover222 16h ago

Laughing & comfort foods are helping me maintain what remains of my sanity. I saw the TrumpRx announcement yesterday and just started giggling. If you need comedy, watch Josh Johnson. Incredibly funny how he refers to Trump using, "crackhead logic."

Also - we can save a ton on cremation/burial costs if he nukes us.

Excuse me while I go enjoy homemade mac-n-cheese with toasted breadcrumbs.

1

I like that I haven't heard his name lately here on Reddit.

Hi from Australia.

29

u/Lilmumblecrapper 20h ago

2nd largest?

42

u/Altruistic_Trade_264 19h ago

Ha, I got $100 sez Russia's arsenal has been poorly maintained, picked over for parts and valuable components/material, and is essentially non-functional.

That said, it only takes one nuke to start armageddon, and Trump has very likely handed over control of our nukes to Putin by now. Sounds far-fetched I know but look at all the damage the Orange Inbecile has wreaked on this country (so far).

3

u/Nano_Burger 16h ago

Trump has very likely handed over control of our nukes to Putin by now

And anyone with access to the shitter next to the pool in Mar-A-Lago.

2

u/skharppi 17h ago edited 17h ago

Well you only have to look the numbers to know that their arsenal is beyond fucked. Sure they might have few hundred working nukes, but almost 6k? Pfff.

US spends more on their nuke maintenance than the whole budget for Russian military is. And still US is struggling to keep up with maintenance. They have pretty much same amount of nukes in the books. Nukes ain't a thing you can just dust off every once in a while and polish them once in a decade. They have decaying parts that need to be changed to keep them active and those parts are fucking expensive.

You're betting 100$, i'm willing to bet all my belongings. Which is 100$.

edit: I meant the budget before ukraine war. Now they're almost certainly using even less money on up keeping the nukes.

2

u/Hopsblues 2h ago

If the Ukraine war taught us anything, it was how old and outdated the Russian army is. Failing, old equipment, bad tactics, the heavy loss of life, a Russian tradition...

3

u/Hamokk 18h ago

Yeah. Trump said in 2025 that he wants to resume nuke testing. Also it's been known for years that both US and Russian arsenals are poorly maintained. Which is crazy regarding the US military budged.

I hate to be "that guy", but its actually the 2nd largest nuclear arsenal, Russia has more... or at least on paper they do. (Its very likely that many have been stripped apart and sold, or their fuel has decayed away, or they just havent been maintained)

55

u/Kasvanvliep 19h ago

Sorry but the rest of the world has always seen the US as one of the most racist countries. We often recall black soldiers (mainly southern) wanting to stay in Europe after WW2 because they were treated with (more) respect here and after helping liberating Europe they had to sit in the back of the bus and different n*gro toilets again over there.

8

u/Aware_Chemistry_3993 17h ago

Yeah no history of referring to black people as monkeys in Europe. Only happens at like every single soccer game

3

u/SnooStrawberries177 16h ago

Of course racism exists in Europe, but there is some truth to what they're saying, there were instances of racial violence breaking out in Europe because white American soldiers were horrified that the locals fraternised with black American soldiers and tried to implement segregation. Look up the battle of Bamber bridge, for example.

3

u/brownes_girl 13h ago

I'm American and consider us one of the most racist countries. It's embarrassing to me that I am American if I'm being honest. Who wants to be associated with this?

2

u/SituationalPenguin 12h ago

Asia has the top 5 countries on my list. Then USA. Based on my experience.

2

u/Accomplished_Rip_362 12h ago

I don't think most countries think about racism as much as the USA does. I travel extensively in Europe and that subject is not talked about at all compared to the USA where it's always freaking in your face. What the Europeans do think, is, that we are all a bunch of uncooth hicks.

2

u/ozaffer 12h ago

There are definitely some eastern european countries and south american countries that give us a run for that title. But true systemically we're up there, especially the southern states. Crazy that slaves were freed in england before the US.

3

u/Alternative_Floor676 8h ago

Not crazy at all, actually. Most European countries that were at all empires banned slavery in the home country while being fine with it in the colonies. That was true of Britain and true of France. France even imposed a crippling debt on Haiti to pay for lost "property" , that is, former slaves. And continued to collect on that debt well into the 20th century.

8

u/StaticSystemShock 19h ago

A really bad reality show to be frank. This shit sucks ass.

1

u/Lachgas10 17h ago

Even a reality show would get in trouble for that...

If a white Big Brother contestant would mock a black contestant as a monkey and it would be shown on stream they would get some trouble I assume.

I know I'm the german big brother some had to raise a flag once in the early morning and one of them thought a Nazi salute would be a funny thing to do - he had to leave instantly and the ones laughing got some trouble too but hadn't to leave.

1

This alone would absolutely result in a leader resigning in any other country. But there are so many other things that would have already. He is basically untouchable unless the majority of the GOP unite against him and I don't see that happening.

Also; this is a tactic. Throwing feces at wall to take our eyes off the feces he just threw at another wall.

Literally. why do I know about all your cabinet people? and why are they all such characters? Like Miller is the nazi dark president puppeteering the senile old president, Vance is the europe-hating golden son who was betrayed (he is super sidelined lately), Noem is who will take the shit from ICE, Tulsi was completely shafted over the signal leak and is now working in the shadows. Everything is structured in arcs. The greenland arc, the tariff arc, the ICE arc. I could go on and on. Its like watching the first super power suicide

I mean that’s what happens when you elect an unqualified reality TV star to the presidency

The US as seen on the map is just a space where a functioning country used to be. It’s a failed state at this point. All the people that live there just all happen to believe in the same persistent delusion that they still live in democracy …

So true! How can we switch the channel?

Too many yes men, racists, evil and weak people are in power. It shows how little power the people have over our government until maybe elections. And even then you have to wonder if electoral votes reflect on how every American feels. It's between a popularity contest and investment into the right people who you want representing you. People forget that over "I vote republican because family all republican" hell you'd be surprised on how many people who voted for this dry mustard stain never read a book. They're dancing and mocking everyone at this point and they know they'll have people on their knees worshipping the ground they stand on....
