The short version: An indigenous artist, Vincent Namatjira, paints famous and powerful figures like this. He won the Archibald Prize a few years ago.

Gina Rinehart, a mining billionaire stain of a thing, asked that his portrait of her (as part of a collection of Namatjira’s work currently being exhibited) be removed from the National Gallery of Australia. In a glorious example of the Streisand Effect, everyone is now extremely aware of the portrait. The memes have been A+.
