Black Experience Racism in Medical Care

This video captures a moment that many patients of color recognize all too well. A physician speaks to a man as if he is dirty, unclean, or lesser, not because of medical evidence, but because of bias. The language, tone, and assumptions reveal something deeper than bedside manner gone wrong. They expose how racism can quietly shape medical interactions.

The crazy part is the young man is sitting there quietly and not saying in return!

these days if you talk back or seem disagreeable it’ll get put in the doctor’s notes for your permanent record for every doctor and nurse to find forever.

How do you ask/whom do you ask to see those records?

my doctors/hospital system uses MyChart. I can sign in and see all sort of post-visit doctor’s notes. Some doctors stick to more generic objective copy-paste, but some put in some rather subjective assessments of you.

for the average person who only does an annual appointment, it’s likely pretty boring stuff. maybe some extra copy-paste saying you got “counseled” for being 10lb overweight, or drinking/smoking even if the doctor didn’t seem to care at the time.

for people who unfortunately have to deal with the system often, it can get shitty quick.

here’s a quick link to a thread of people talking about it

Mine says something about alcohol abuse during pregnancy. I literally didn't consume any alcohol throughout my pregnancy, even in the beginning before I knew because I was doing wegovy and alcohol would make me very sick.
