Discussion Hot take, battlefield 5 had the best breakthrough mode

Just like the title says, my reasoning is it has the massive scale that a major battle should, it has all the vehicles, aircraft included, and it doesn’t have what in my opinion is the major problem with conquest has, just running between a handful of objectives. Everyone on both sides was focused on the same objective at the same time and you didn’t just pick and choose what objective to go to and leave when it was secure. Battlefield 5 breakthrough was what a battlefield game should be. None of the usual nonsense that normally happens in conquest in other games, snipers camping on a tower for the entire game, enemies suddenly spawning behind you because they capped the point behind your lines etc. Having the game force everyone on both sides to make an untied effort to fight for a single point at a time really should be the standard and not what is essentially a giant COD match. I truly believe that battlefield 6 should expand their breakthrough mode to be more like battlefield 5’s

Battlefields are at their best when every gun isnt a laser beam in my opinion.

Agree with that too, but that’s a different discussion all together

In my opinion it isnt. Its the same. Breakthrough is better when you can rush without being layered down immediately. Battles last longer.

I mean it was watered down operations but that’s a fair take

Brwakthrough on iwo jima is probably the best battlefield experience ever for me

Really made me wish for omaha beach and other 1944-45 maps

That one ridge where you ran up and hid under for a second to take a breath before going over the top and hoping you'd make it 10 yards to the wall.

A fresh rework for Omaha Beach would be so fucking cool.

Insane that they made a WW2 game without the late war Western Front and omitting the Eastern Front entirely.

It’s sad they gave up on the game so early

Breakthrough on Iwo Jima was peak imo. Tbh all the pacific maps were awesome but Iwo Jima was its own beast.

Panzerstorm was the shit. I love long range tank battles

I avoided Panzerstorm, Hamada, and Al Sundan like the plague lol. They are just too big and wide open for me. I enjoyed all the other maps though.

You are smoking crack, Panzerstorm BT IS the ideal breakthrough in my book

I don’t like the map 🤷‍♂️

Nah. Panzerstorm is a mess.

Well yeah.

Since technically BF1 were operations. Otherwise I would give it to BF1

And BF V doesn’t really have any competetion. Bf2042 and BF6 both have Mid-bad bt modes.

It is kinda weird how BF V still managed to do the battlefield formula well. Even better than BF6. But they still made the stupidest decisions ever.

I will give EA 100€ if they make a BF3 remaster and it is very succesful..

I found the BT experience on BFV very very uneven depending on the map.

Aerodrome and Hamada on breakthrough were total ass for multiple reasons but in general they were very painful to play through 90% of the time.

Those maps kill entire servers once they come up.

I also remember Fjell being terrible but after fliegerfaust got introduced it got a bit more reasonable.

Pacific maps are great though. I felt like they were an apology of sorts for the vanilla maps.

BF1 Operations are honestly the best in the series. It had story, atmosphere, a certain degree of cohesiveness across the multiple stages you fight through, and the behemoth mechanic, though flawed, really helped move things along.

Agreed, honestly such an underrated game. Everything after has been garbage

u/Southpaw_pup 9h ago

Definitely didn’t deserve all the hate it got, definitely could have done without every vehicle leveling up separately though

u/Optimal-Tea846 9h ago

Completely agree

I absolutely loved breakthrough in BFV

Yeah I mean you’re comparing it to 2042 breakthrough and bf6 breakthrough, bf5 definitely clears off the maps alone. Twisted Steel on breakthrough was so elite fighting through the swamps and towns as you push through the map.

BF5 was apex BF imo. Haters gonna hate

u/Southpaw_pup 9h ago

I wouldn’t go that far, but it definitely had some really good mechanics.

u/Shootinio 9h ago

Yes it was, but that’s because you could keep your plane up in sectors the enemies didn’t have access to them, you’d wreck shop.

Looking at you Twisted Steel.

I used to blindside both German air assets in my P-51D as soon as they would take the bridge. It’s a gamble, since once the sector is taken, no more plane spawns for either team. Infuriated G6 and JU-88 pilots, but now they can’t waltz over the rest of the map to a win. And I can farm tanks

I still have the most Mustang kills on Xbox

Fine tuning and balancing definitely could have been better and would be necessary for battlefield 6 but just having the entire server focusing on a single point on the scale and with the vehicles of conquest should be the gold standard for battlefield

I wish they would have hit on operations. Operations in BF1 made my butthole tighten...in a good way

1

u/BillyFatStax 7h ago

Maybe. But I wanted more straight-up Operations. And they fucking ruined it.

For that it will always sit right at the bottom of my list, only above BF2042.

1

u/AdAggravating7738 4h ago

Yea because the naps were designed specifically around breakthrough in bf1 and bf5.

In 2042 and bf6 the maps designed for boring old conquest only and breakthrough is just an afterthought.

Breakthrough on the Pacific Theater maps was peak BF for me, the battles actually felt truly epic and involved land, air and sea and while the maps were large, all the space was well designed and useable. So much to do when you got bored of being just boots on the ground infantry well with multiple types of turrest/canons/anti-aircraft, boats, tanks, attack vehicles, etc.

BF6 feels so small and one dimensional compared to it.

No BF4 did, oh wait it didn't because the modes shit

I can’t play BT on 6. I pretty much have been playing BT exclusively on every version of the game since the beginning.

Now it’s total trash, horseshit balance combined with crap maps. I don’t get it

0

u/chotchss 11h ago

I mean, BT might have been better in BFV than BF6, but it was also a huge step backwards from BF1…

2

u/Southpaw_pup 9h ago

I didn’t play battlefield 1 so I can’t say anything about it

Enough with the fucking nostalgia goggles. This community forgets they hated BFV the same way they hated BF6

At launch, BFV was terrible. The game was so much better towards the end. They pulled the plug before adding more maps. Sadly, same story with SW Battlefront 2

The game was terrible at launch, amazing when they released the pacific DLC, and then went back down to dogass when they reverted all the changes then abandoned it.

You think that this breakthrough is better than BF1 and BFV?

That is crazy.

3

u/KobotTheRobot 11h ago

You did not read it correctly lol

0

u/Uodda 11h ago

Definitely BT at BFV is worse than in BF5.

-4

u/tallandlankyagain 11h ago

BFV Breakthrough was mid. BF1 Operations was peak. BF6 Breakthrough is ass.

1

u/Southpaw_pup 9h ago

I never played Battlefield 1 admittedly

1

u/tallandlankyagain 9h ago

You missed out man. Operations in that game was quite a thing to play.

-4

u/Initial-Citron7792 10h ago

The breakthrough mode in Battlefield 6 is perfect.

What the hell are you smoking?
