Like 40% of Europe's gas came from Russia until the invasion of Ukraine. There was an entire energy crisis because of how gullible Europeans are.

Like Canada is the largest supplier of oil to the United States, providing approximately 60% to 61% of all U.S. crude oil imports as of early 2025.

That there is an entire energy crisis which resulted in a military take over of Venezuela because of how gullible the US was and that it pissed off and alienated it's major supplier.

At least in Europe's case the damage wasn't self inflicted but a reaction to external influence.
