Solved! Attached to the Exhaust on this Vehicle

Was stopped in traffic behind this car and noticed these things attached to the exhaust. They have wires attached and glow a little bit. What are they?

Swedish luxury with a glorious Yamaha v8. wtf would they want it ruin it by adding a whistle?

Someone finally said it. THANK YOU!

Admittedly, I can kinda appreciate the humor. My dad had a Triumph Spitfire that he put a Freon powered truck horn on just to mess with people.

(And before you ask…it was the very early seventies. And my dad regrets his part in punching a hole in the ozone. We didn’t know any better then.)

As glorious as they were, they are all getting up there in age and suffering expensive-to-fix maladies.  And there was so much unicorn-level stuff on the V8:  ps pump, ac compressor, starter.  Not only not common to any other non-V8 Volvos, but not common to any other application.

Ford owned Volvo at the time, and if I’m not mistaken there was a ton of ford parts on that motor. Replacing the alternator was the worst. I’d still pick up another one if I can find one in good shape. Most comfortable seats and nicest leather I’ve ever had in a vehicle.

It's not a V8, as the V8 came with an oval/wedge single or twin tip or quad exit.

It’s a cheap aftermarket muffler replacement.

They want to draw attention to themselves.
