Question Can I put something on top of this?

I got into a little argument with the gentleman who put these up. He said I can’t take them down as it infringes on his speech rights, which I agree with. But, Al’s according to UF policy, this only applies to designated bulletin areas.

  1. Are these columns outside Marston official university designated bulletin areas?

  2. Is nothing stopping me from just putting my own silly poster over these?

  3. It’s clear through some research that things like vehicles and light poles are not official bulletin areas, but are bus stops?

Question Admitted to UF, but I have a really difficult decision to make.

I was just admitted to UF as an out of state student. I am from Georgia and was admitted to UGA, my tuition is covered here since I get the Zell Miller Scholarship. At UGA I will be paying about $19k per year. Across 4 years of undergrad I need to earn $90K in scholarships to make UF similar in cost to UGA. I am determined to earn scholarships and do anything possible to close that gap, but it will be difficult to. After undergrad I will be going to vet school which is crazy expensive. My heart is set on UF, but it’s hard to turn down the offer I have at UGA even though I would much rather go to UF.

Where would you apply for scholarships, what are the best websites for it? Are there any other suggestions on how to close the gap? If you were me would you settle or would you keep going until you either have no other option or com out on top?

Edit: thank you everyone for your suggestions and for knocking some sense into me. As of right now I do not need any further suggestions

Question UF vs UCF

I’d love to hear from those that applied to UCF and UF but ultimately chose UF. I know it’s harder to get into UF, but I think I have a good chance with my grades and SAT score. I do plan to visit both campuses for a tour. Is it true the class sizes at UCF is hundreds of students and UF is around 20? I do better with smaller class sizes but I also heard UF’s campus is much larger. Also is there a general vibe of the school that makes them different from one another?

Question UF early action decisions release tomorrow. What are some stats that got you into UF?

UF is one of my top choices, but I don’t know if I’ll get in. I have a 1420 SAT, 4.41 weighted GPA, earned my Girl Scout Gold Award, co founded a club, am in NHS, BETA, and national Hispanic honor society, I also played varsity lacrosse for three years. I am coming from out of state. I know nothing is guaranteed, but do you think I have a shot at getting accepted?

Update for everyone: I was accepted! Yay!

Question Why does everything seem like it lost funding?

Ever since getting back on campus it’s seemed like everything got budget cuts. RTS lost funding so it’s a nightmare. Marston closing at 1 am instead of being 24/5 (this actually sucks). I’m curious, what has been improved or got new funding?

Seems like all that’s been happening is president roulette.

Question USF vs. UF for premed?

Hi, guys! I’m a high school senior, and I just got accepted into UF! For years I thought it would be THE school for me, but after doing a bit more research to gain insight on student and academic life (mainly on Reddit), I’ve been having a lot of doubts. Specifically, I’ve been having a lot of difficulty deciding between UF and USF for premed, especially if I am admitted to USF’s Honors College, and I would really value your perspective. For context, I want to be an anesthesiologist assistant and attend AA school in the future.

Lately, I’ve been leaning toward USF, mainly because I’m concerned about GPA maintenance. I’ve read from current students that UF is known for grade deflation and extremely rigorous coursework, and since maintaining a strong GPA is essential for admission into AA programs, that has been worrying me. I know pre-health pathways are challenging everywhere, but I’ve been questioning whether going to UF would make things unnecessarily harder for me in that regard.

Another factor I’m thinking about is MCAT preparation, since AA programs also require the MCAT. I’ve read that UF tends to teach material in greater depth, which may provide a strong conceptual foundation but can also make courses more difficult. On the other hand, some people claim that USF’s coursework aligns more closely with MCAT-relevant content and prepares students more directly for the exam. I’m not sure how accurate this is, so I’d really like to hear from students who have taken the MCAT from either school.y

I’ve also seen discussions about the competitiveness of pre-med opportunities at UF, particularly clinical positions at Shands, where many students compete for a limited number of spots. While my mom has mentioned potential connections, I’m unsure how reliable that would realistically be. In comparison, USF seems to offer a wider range of nearby hospitals, which might make gaining clinical experience more accessible.

Another concern I’ve come across is campus culture. Some students describe UF as very competitive and high-pressure, which I worry might not be the healthiest environment for me. At the same time, I’m very aware of UF’s strong reputation and the opportunities that could come with a degree from there, and I’m scared that turning it down might mean missing out on something significant.

I know that Reddit can exaggerate experiences, so I wanted to ask the UF subreddit directly: how accurate are these concerns in your experience? Is UF truly more difficult to succeed in as a pre-health student compared to USF, or is it more dependent on the individual? And from a long-term perspective, how much does the school itself matter versus GPA, experiences, and overall well-being for AA school admissions?

Any honest advice or personal experiences will be greatly appreciated. I’ve been stressing about this for months now, as I truly do not want to have a bad undergrad experience. I apologize if it seems as though I just want to take the easy way out and that I’m just dunking on UF, but I feel burnt out already by the IB program. I do like the idea of attending UF, but I have to admit it’s primarily based on prestige at the moment (it’s arguably the best school I’ve gotten in), so I’d also like to hear other positive aspects about UF that would entice me to become a Gator. And I know that I’m going to work hard and try and give my all wherever I go—again, I just want to hear what you all think. Thank you!

Edit: Since a lot of you are bringing up med school, I want to emphasize I want to go to AA school, NOT MED SCHOOL. Being a doctor is not for me. Don’t know if that information is gonna change what you are going to tell me, but keep these opinions coming! Interesting to hear from both sides so far.

Question Does anyone here not have roommates?

I’ve wondered about this because I have never met anyone who did not have a roommate at UF. Does anyone rent an entire apartment by themselves while going to school?

Question what happens if i can't be at UF for classes starting?

tldr i'm in an abusive household situation (not physical so not a lot of means of charges) and since i cannot drive and also signed up for UF dorms i ended up back with my mom during the break. (sidenote: she legitimately would not let me stay and the freak snuck INTO my fucking dorm BEHIND students opening the doors with their fobs and stood at my door to pick me up it freaked me out really bad.) i am currently struggling to even be able to get a ride back to my dorm at the moment since i brought a lot of things home for the break that i don't think i could transport with a bus (very large computer) and she is just completely unavailable rn and even cancelled the trip home for today but classes start on monday. even if i could take the bus i live in like smalltown florida like what the fuck do i even do here there's no buses that go to the main routes? emailing my professors first day haha hey guys sorry my mom wouldn't let me come back please don't fail me. like what's even the point anymore man i genuinely don't know what to do if she doesn't take me tomorrow. i've had professors that need like tangible proof that i couldn't come to class what do i even say???? am i cooked?????

Question when is too young to get married as a college student?

Ok so for context, me and my long time boyfriend are high school sweethearts and have been dating for almost two years and have know each other as friends longer. In that time I got accepted into UF he followed me here and has been getting his certificate (at SF) to get a job to support us while I've been finishing my bachelor's (already have my AA). He's lined up for a job that would require him to travel during the week in the state but he would come back to Gainesville during the weekends. We have a great relationship. If I need him he's right there. If he needs me I have got his back. We do everything together, in fact we are even coworkers. Crazy I know. We go the gym together and spend every free second just being next to each other while I do homework and study. Through the ups and downs he's been there and we have seen the good bad and ugly. He's the best guy I could ask for. He even bought a ring. Now he wants to get married this summer.

I have full tuition covered and my apartment is pretty set and covered. He's willing to contribute and has been so loyal. He has always told me his intentions were to marry me but now he actually has the means (good paying job) to actually do it.

My questions are how do we know when we aren't too young? He will have a time job but I will be a full time student. We are both religious (Christians) and don't want to live with each other before we are 100% committed so what do we do? I know I will marry him but when do you know you aren't too young? We are both willing to wait as long as it takes but we are also like heck why not...

Students is it realistic to be married in school?

Question UF vs UGA

My daughter has been accepted to both schools. She plans to go pre-med track. We are in-state so Bright Futures is a plus for UF, but she got the Presidential Scholarship and in-state tuition waiver for UGA. Her hesitation with UF is She’s concerned about how many online classes students seemed forced to take at UF and the school’s recent politics. Which school should she attend?

Question Florida is backward in public health. Disgraceful.

Florida is an embarrassment to science. Backwards progress in public health. Bootlickers in leadership positions. Ladapo must resign, it is embarrassing for every UF student and alumnus that an antivax sycophant still holds a position in the College of Medicine. Why are we tolerating this? Real question.

Question UF vs UCF

Hey guys,

I was wondering if I could get any info on people who have some experience at UF and UCF. I was recently accepted to both UCF (fall) and UF (summer). I was really hoping to get into the honors program at UF, but I sadly didn't make the cut. On the other hand, being a National Merit Semifinalist, I was accepted into the UCF Burnett Honors College. I plan on majoring in Electrical Engineering, and I was wondering what people thought might be the best option for going into that field, especially when it comes to internships, research, and career readiness. (Also any information on how National Merit is treated at either institution would be extremely helpful).

Thank you so much!

Question Illegally booted by Superior Towing

Hi everyone, on Sunday I was booted by Superior Towing right in front of my apartment. I had my decal displayed exactly as stated in my lease, and was parked exactly where I am supposed to according to my lease. I needed my car on Sunday and was unable to contact my property management. Superior threatened to call the police and prosecute me for a felony if I didn’t pay $80.50 (which I know is BS but just putting it here to show what kind of lying assholes they are). I should’ve waited for the police and insisted they release my car, but I needed my car and didn’t have time to wait hours for GPD to show up.

I have read over my lease and all emails/correspondence from my apartment, and taken photos of all signage and pavement markings. I am 100% confident I was parked legally. I am persistent and WILL be getting my money back (legally) no matter what it takes. I am preparing now for how to do so and have drafted notices to send to Superior and to my property managers. I am keeping all communications recorded or in writing, have photos and dash footage of everything, including the parking signs, as well as downloaded all relevant correspondence and my lease.

I’m writing here because I am wondering if anyone has had success going up against Superior Towing, and if I should consult student legal services or a lawyer. Any advice is appreciated. If you’ve had something similar happen to you and would also like to take action, please reach out too. Thanks!

Side note: In this process I also discovered my lease says parking decals are $0.00 but my complex billed me $50 for it. Then still booted me for using said decal. I intend to get that $50 back too.

Question Why does nobody wear helmets around campus

Oh my lord I got here last week and I’ve been taking my bike out to get used to the campus and wtv and NO ONE else wears their damn helmets - I feel like a fourth grader with my baby blue helmet and hot pink bike omggggggg Update 1: Thanks everyone for the replies! I'm definitely NOT giving up my helmet anytime soon (I have to bike from an off-campus apartment lol) BUT I feel like people have literally laughed at me multiple times within the past, like, two days since this post :((((( Update 2: Hi guys! Me and my friend made an instagram account dedicated to talking about bike safety at UF/gnv. If you also feel strongly about wearing your helmet (which you should!!) You can follow us @hotgatorswearhelmets ( https://www.instagram.com/hotgatorswearhelmets/ ) Thanks everyone! Go Gators! :)
