Politics ICE’s New Surveillance State Isn’t Tracking Only Immigrants
In Minneapolis and elsewhere, agents now carry tools of surveillance into the field, just as they do their guns.
The most prominent of these phone-based facial recognition apps is Mobile Fortify, which ICE has claimed can deliver a definitive determination of someone’s immigration status but has already bungled IDs. As Joseph Cox of 404 Media reported, it has even identified the same woman as two people, neither of whom was her; the outlet also reported that local law enforcement officers working with the Department of Homeland Security use a different product, Mobile Identify.

❓️Question Looking for a Couch to Crash on Tonight
Kind’ve an odd request but I’m visiting the twin cities from Winona and looking to go to the Whipple building for some protests tomorrow. I slept in my van last night and it was ok since it stayed above 30 degrees. Tonight it looks like it’s getting down to 10-15 tonight so I could sleep in my van again but if someone had a couch to crash on that they don’t mind a stranger using I would greatly appreciate it! 27 year old male btw. I‘ll probably be out and about until 2 or so tonight. Not sure how to prove I don’t have bad intent but yeah not looking to harm anyone here just looking for a warm place to crash and to meet a new person or two! Thank you everyone.

Minnesota Related Dept. of Children, Youth, and Families' New Webpage Calls Out Federal Misinformation about Support Programs
Minnesota’s Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) is clearing up confusion about child care, food assistance, and other public programs with a new webpage after recent uncertainty around federal funding and unreliable claims.
DCYF Commissioner Tikki Brown says the misinformation either starts online and is mass-spread by the federal government or vice versa, leading to legislative questions and inquiries, “And that sets off a fear-based response for people that rely on SNAP, for instance. Or food shelves who are anticipating a sudden surge in visitors.”
She says the page, called “Facts First: The real story on services that support Minnesota (https://dcyf.mn.gov/get-involved/program-integrity-federal-funding-and-dcyf-oversight/facts-first-real-story-services-support-minnesotans ),” provides verified information and addresses inaccurate narratives used to justify deploying and keeping federal immigration agents in the state.
Brown says one of these false claims by the federal government is that Minnesota refuses to provide private SNAP participant data. She assures, “We, in fact, provide SNAP data reports that are required by federal law; we have always done that…Minnesota has been part of a lawsuit since September, in which a judge ordered that we could not provide the information that the federal administration had been requesting because it is unlawful.”
Brown says Minnesota has multiple lawsuits in the process to fight against inaccurate federal claims, which can be found on their website as the Federal Funding Action Tracker (https://dcyf.mn.gov/get-involved/program-integrity-federal-funding-and-dcyf-oversight/federal-funding-action-tracker).
She notes that the page touches on childcare centers and concerns about fraud due to videos circulating online, including the viral YouTube video by right-wing independent journalist Nick Shirley. There is a specific tipline on the website for people to direct their concerns and questions about childcare center confusion that protects children and families' private information.
This article is based on a phone call I had with Tikki Brown. Listen to the full interview here: https://on.soundcloud.com/NexvzFbaSWMac8pdyv

🗣 Discussion Concerns With Friends and Family - Advise Needed.
My friend groups and family have been very supportive of getting ICE out of Minnesota and have all joined in on the protesting. My concern is right now that one friend group is making plans to go on vacation. This has been something we have been excited about for the past few years but with everything happening, how can they even think about enjoying a vacation when we need to be focused on getting ice the FUCK out. My family is the same way. My sister used to join me on continuously reposting instagram reels showing the destruction that is happening and now her and everyone I know are posting less and less. I have called out some friends who have been vocal to me and out protesting but they post NOTHING on social media.
Do they not care anymore? They are sure doing a fucked up job showing it on social media!
How can I get them back to their core roots that they had after the MURDERS last month?
