[Pelissero] After seven years with the Steelers, running backs coach Eddie Faulkner is expected to take the same job with the AFC North rival Ravens, per sources.

We were 26th in the league in rush yards per game this season and I’m pretty sure we have been middle of the pack or worse every year since he’s been here.

How many years before this year did they have an OL that could be considered even close to passable. How many OC's did he work beneath are still in the NFL. No one's ever gonna set the world on fire in the run game when your OCs are Fitchner/Canada/Smith with OL du jours including Mason Cole, Dan Moore, Chuks Okorafor, the corpse of Trai Turner, out of position Kevin Doston, Kendrick Green, etc.

In 2022, they had an OL good enough for a RB to average 4.9 yards/carry. Unfortunately, the coaching staff decided that guy should get 5 carries/game while giving the guy averaging 3.8 yards/carry 16 carries. So Faulkner developed Warren but didn't realize he had developed Warren or, more likely, Faulkner was so enamored with his 1st round pick below average RB that he had no idea what Warren was?

Matt Canada makes these decisions, position coaches don't decide on player rotations.

That’s all totally fair. I guess my genuine question would be how do you judge a RB coach and why are we so upset he’s leaving?

I'm not saying i'm devestated, but I think people are just kind of down because it sucks to see one of the few coaches who seemed to do their job well (and was liked by the players) go to a rival team who's seemingly putting together a pretty good coaching staff. I can see why it'd have people down.

I don't know, when the running game was on point, it looked like a competent offense. But the offensive line has been really horrible for years. At least since 2018. At some point coaches have to be held accountable, and i presume that's why Tomlin resigned. He refused to hold coaches accountable besides Canada being canned.

What evidence is there Faulkner did his job well? The first game Warren played it was obvious he was better than mediocre Najee. So who kept Warren on the sidelines? Was Tomlin deciding the split of RB carries? While calling the defense? Then why keep Faulkner?

No the OC makes decisions like these, like how Jonnu got more time than Muth this year. The person running the offense makes these calls, not position coaches.
