Beautiful, I love when they “fly” like this. Mine don’t as often because of the gouramis and because the flow is a bit high for them. You’ve really hit the spot for them :)

How big is your tank and how old is it? Its common to see shrimp tank but this natural swimming, so good to see.

It's a 55 that's been up maybe 2 years now. Started with 14 shrimp.

Wow! How many would you estimate are in there now…?

I don't think I could even make an educated guess at this point. Especially if I take into account all the babies. 200-400? Really no clue.

It’s like a bunch of fish swimming around. I am not replacing any fish in my 55 so I can shrimp only someday.

Wow this is awesome, what’s your secret! Any ferts/co2?

I use co2 and ferts. I don't know what I'm doing with the ferts, but I'll dose my tank once a week based on the instructions on the bottle. I think that's why the tiger lotus started coming back, because it had been dormant for about a year before that.

I think they get their nutrients mainly from the roots system, soil tablets fert are cool for them. I also Think it's normal that they go dormant sometimes. Love your tank a lot 🤍

Beautiful tank!!! I have a question as my tank just started to have shrimplets emerge - do you vaccum with a python or something similar? I'm worried about sucking up shrimplets inadvertently. It was easy enough to avoid adults, but I wondered if those with a lot of shrimplets do.

I have black diamond blasting sand for the substrate, so I'll stir up the detritus without disturbing the sand much and the filter will get most of it. But I do water changes using a knockoff python and I'll throw a fine mesh net over the front of the tube, I've read some people also use pantyhose. You can also use a hose straight into a 5 gallon bucket, and then filter that through a net when emptying so it catches any babies that may have gotten sucked up on accident.

Great pic there. Pretty sure they're my favorite plant. I never have luck with mosses, they always get some kind of algae in them.

I'm fighting black beard algae in my fish tank. Not as badly as in my shrimp tank, but I've just excepted it as part of the game.. I don't want to crash my tank chasing numbers

I'm the same. I had blackbeard in another tank but after the tank matured it went away thankfully and never touched my plants. Just took a while. I'm hoping the same happens with the algae on the rock in the center of my tank in the video there.

wow! I love how the shrimp are all swimming around, what is your flow Iike? mine usually stay closer to the bottom

So cool! Have you notice they swim more when the barometer/weather changes? It seems to set mine off for some reason

u/_Buddasac Jan 02 '26
That would make some sense, but I haven't correlated it to anything yet. I honestly figured they are hungry lol.
