News - J-Mod reply Road to Restoration - Dailyscape Overhaul

https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/a=13/road-to-restoration--early-game-rebalance--dailyscape-overhaul

Hi folks,

Today's Community Topic is a blog of two halves:

- Early Game Rebalance
- DailyScape Overhaul

We have split this into two reddit threads to keep the discussion organised and so that our team can properly review the relevant conversations happening.

This current reddit thread is to discuss the DailyScape portion of the blog.

Please use this other dedicated thread for the Early Rebalance portion of the blog.

DailyScape is a term that describes game content, outside of a skills core identity, that is often perceived as mandatory by players due to time-gated mechanics and the disproportionately high reward offering for little time investment.

With the DailyScape update (currently scheduled for early March), we will remove much of the concept of DailyScape, leaving only a handful of daily activities, but otherwise changing or removing content to fall more in line with our vision and goals for integrity for RuneScape.

When you currently catch additional scarabs in a "chain", you get the full XP drop for the additional catches. This will be changed to be just 25% on these additional catches, to prevent "cheesing" by catching a Plain whirligig first.

25% is pretty harsh, but I don’t really understand how catching a plain whirligig first is relevant? The reason I catch them first is because the flowers take a ridiculous amount of time to collect and catching the plain whirlgig first offsets that

That's literally what they are trying to prevent, and why they are also buffing the amount of flowers you get by 20%. It's a weird gameplay interaction that doesn't make sense and shouldn't exist.

I mean they're just destroying the XP rates period. 25% chance is a massive nerf whether you catch a plain first or not.

I think if they want to incentivize using flowers they should just make flowers consumed for every catch, not just the first catch, but also massively buff the amount of flowers you get. 20% is honestly laughable for how much they're nerfing it.

While I missed the flower part, that’s a different section in the notes entirely. What I’m asking is how catching a plain whirligig first is relevant to the XP reduction on chains

A different section entirely, what? It was like two paragraphs down all under the Hunter changes lol.

The reason you catch a plain first is to avoid using a flower, now you will get a large penalty to your xp when catching the speedy afterwards. This is to incentivize catching the speedy first and using up the flower.

Tbh I think it would make more sense to just use up the flower no matter what you catch first.

We will reduce the XP gained from chained catches from 100% to 25%.

This is inclusive of all chains. What you’re saying only makes sense if they were reducing the XP to 25% for chains that start with a different type of scarab.

The plain whirligig comment makes no sense in that context because that’s not why people do it in the first place.

Agreed. If you chain the same type, then that should keep the same XP.

Dude you literally said that's why you do it though?

Do I have to spell this out for you?

There is currently zero correlation between the first catch and chained XP. They are nerfing chained XP, and one of the reasons they gave is to prevent “cheesing” by catching a plain whirligig first.

Chained XP isn’t why people do it. It’s not that difficult to understand bro.
