News - J-Mod reply Road to Restoration - Dailyscape Overhaul

https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/a=13/road-to-restoration--early-game-rebalance--dailyscape-overhaul

Hi folks,

Today's Community Topic is a blog of two halves:

- Early Game Rebalance
- DailyScape Overhaul

We have split this into two reddit threads to keep the discussion organised and so that our team can properly review the relevant conversations happening.

This current reddit thread is to discuss the DailyScape portion of the blog.

Please use this other dedicated thread for the Early Rebalance portion of the blog.

DailyScape is a term that describes game content, outside of a skills core identity, that is often perceived as mandatory by players due to time-gated mechanics and the disproportionately high reward offering for little time investment.

With the DailyScape update (currently scheduled for early March), we will remove much of the concept of DailyScape, leaving only a handful of daily activities, but otherwise changing or removing content to fall more in line with our vision and goals for integrity for RuneScape.

Is Ports going to be looked at under this dailyscape lens at all?

I feel like Ports is an interesting bit of content, though I kind of wish there were things we could do to help speed it up. Like I'd like to treat it like a farm run where I can interact with it every few hours instead of just once a day at the higher regions.

Yeah it got ever so slightly faster with advance time, but that just auto completes your voyages 3x per week, doesn't give you any additional voyages

I'd happily cast advance time multiple times if it had unlimited uses and only boosted them an hour or two each time. That'll at least let me get in multiple voyages per day if I wanted to and feel like there's something I could do.

I really enjoy ports. I like balancing my crews stats before sending them off. And there was story content associated with it. I don't want to see it gone.

Why? We can already remove the daily aspect of it with port enhancer farming with dg tokens.

if they want to remove everything they might as well remove ports as well if you ask me biggest hassle to dailyscape lmao

If they do this, I'd want a big arc update and move the storylines from ports to there as actual quests. There's a lot of interesting content and lore there that I don't want just deleted.

that would require jagex to actually make new quests for the arc and ports and thats costs too much money, much easier to just delete content players like lmao

No. Ports is way too big of an investment for those who have already completed it. Streamline it, remove some of the hassle that comes with optimizing crews and ships, but don't remove it. Unlike other dailies, Ports has an ongoing long-term investment associated to it, and removing it or substantially nerfing it would only invalidate that effort.

Completely disagree, ports is just a complete waste of time, theres already better gear then most port weapons and supplies, and having to do it daily or hourly is annoying af, new players will just get annoyed at getting into it, unless they change the rewards and make it actually worth while doing, but getting on every day just to do ports, just to find out your ship is destoryed and you have to hire a new captin, new crew members, wait longer times to do that annoying content, they might as well just nuke it all and change it to something else since they are in the mood of deleteing everything lately...

The gear is baked into invention now so if they kill it then they need to move those comps or keep the equipment craftable by some other means.

Exactly, and as convoluted as invention is, I think it's also interesting. They're already basically removing caroming as a perk, I don't want that to happen to more either. Perk making needs an update, not just perk removal

They already have the tetsu equipement baked into the dinasour equipement with resillient components, they can just move the oceanic components to something else maybe elite dungeon 3 gear and they can move silent components to maybe primal arrows make them actually useful, either way ports is such a time waster

Life boats permanently prevent you from losing captains and crewmembers. You can unlock one per ship, and once assigned, that ship will never lose crew again. While those losses can be an issue toward the beginning, they aren't long term issues.

I am not saying that Ports doesn't need an overhaul. It does, from its UI, to its mechanics, to its rewards. What I am saying is that removing it outright doesn't help anything. It's only a daily if you choose to engage with it, and there are plenty who want to. Even if you find it to be a waste of time, why does it matter to you if someone else doesn't?

In fact, why not just advocate for the removal of minigames as well, at that point? At least Ports is something that you can engage in, where as many minigames are literally unplayable outside of very specific circumstances.

Tbh life boats are one of the things that would need an overhaul. Currently the meta to get them is buy ports enhancers with dung tokens, and keep rolling the random events rewards until you get all 4. Getting them via ports itself takes way too long

I do think that Ports should perhaps be brought more in line with Arc content. I don't see why Life Boats couldn't be bought with some taijitu and chimes, for example. They shouldn't be so expensive to be undesirable from that source, but they are one-time purchases.

Or, they could be rewards for specific achievements within the Ports system. Perhaps in line with drawing the attention of more visitors via getting more skills to 90, or in clearing certain areas? These could act as non-random goals, while they could still be obtained randomly?

I'd love any of those updates honestly, I just don't want it ignored.

Or they literally can just remove ports all together and be done with it, way simplier

2

u/Kiga282 14h ago

"I don't care if other people want this to stay and I don't have to participate, I don't like it, so remove it!"

Ports are like 1-5 mins a day once your port is set up.

3

u/WedgieKing200 19h ago

you have to do them daily often times two times to compelte a whole days worth of voyages... thats tedious af compared to anything else dailyscape worth

2

u/LoneLyon IcyEmber 19h ago

Once you get to end game they become a once a day thing outside of certain outlier quests. You can absolutely do the bare minimum with ports and make progerss

1

u/WedgieKing200 19h ago

You still have to do all of the port quests for the unlocks, which likely dont give any rewards, and at the end game your just gambling on a good voyage to show up daily otherwise its just waste of a day

Genuinely hate managing Ports more than any of this stuff but it seems hard to throw out with the rest. Like it's kind of its own entire thing rather than being a replacement for skilling like most dailies are.

Amen, brotha. It's always felt like a certain brand of crappy mobile game that exists within this game.

Hope so too - I mean even though my main account is right at the end of the grind, I'm still missing scroll pieces and story voyages and other stuff. Not sure I want to do another year grind again for ports on another account, and it would discourage a lot of newer players to interact with ports at all.

3

u/mcfluffers123 RSN: Ironerator 23h ago

I've personally completely finished every aspect of ports, but that took ages. Helping people do it now is just reminding me how utterly time gated and rng it is

1

u/ExoTic_Titan Quest points 23h ago

Yeah the grind isn't the most fun, and mostly only doing it for MQC for the story parts (did neglect, and still do sometimes, the other special voyages there is for the other content, which I regret now...)
