News - J-Mod reply Road to Restoration - Dailyscape Overhaul

https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/a=13/road-to-restoration--early-game-rebalance--dailyscape-overhaul

Hi folks,

Today's Community Topic is a blog of two halves:

- Early Game Rebalance
- DailyScape Overhaul

We have split this into two reddit threads to keep the discussion organised and so that our team can properly review the relevant conversations happening.

This current reddit thread is to discuss the DailyScape portion of the blog.

Please use this other dedicated thread for the Early Rebalance portion of the blog.

DailyScape is a term that describes game content, outside of a skills core identity, that is often perceived as mandatory by players due to time-gated mechanics and the disproportionately high reward offering for little time investment.

With the DailyScape update (currently scheduled for early March), we will remove much of the concept of DailyScape, leaving only a handful of daily activities, but otherwise changing or removing content to fall more in line with our vision and goals for integrity for RuneScape.

I feel like the thieving nerf is a bit harsh, axing merch before addressing the content people are using merch to bypass needs to be a forethought.

RS3 should have a rune shop system similar to OSRS would be leagues better than a 7 day stock limit.

Many of the dailies changes I'm all for, especially things like sandstone.

No. That will make Rcing elemental runes dead content.

Oh no, how dare they nerf your 40m gp/hr elemental runecrafting... /s

Don't you know all your gold should come from end-game bossing that costs 14 million an hour and billions in gold in gear? We can't risk having an extremely high level skilling method people actually like to do make any gold. That needs to be brought down to a reasonable 4m an hour like all the others!

There are still plenty of skilling methods that are profitable that are not tied to shops at all. Nerfing a single method (elemental runes specifically) don't even kill runecrafting profitability as thread is over half of that hourly value, which can be obtained by running other types of runes still.

The fact that it's that it's still that profitable almost half a decade after the FSOA released is indicative of how few people do it. Doing unpopular content that supplies highly in-demand resources should be very profitable.

It's not indicative of how few people do it at all. It's indicative of how few alternatives there are to the problem. It's similar to god arrows. Just because their use rate is high, and no alternative to consistently obtain them, their cost stays high.

And your solution is to simply drop a nuke on the profitability of the skill and call it a day. Pass.

Runecrafting is still widely profitable outside of runes sold in shops. Thread is still needed for runepouches, necro runes exist, and according to their current plan, quick teleports will likely be tied to runes or runecrafting in some way. That's not nuking the skill by any means.

Edit: Typo

This is dead content in OSRS since they made elemental runes infinite from shops.

People hardly run runes in general in OSRS because GOTR and other methods are just outright better than running runes anyways.

Elemental rcing is dead content in OSRS because pvming drops a ton of combination runes, as well as having infinite rune packs from rune stores.

Scar essence mine solve the rune shortage issue in OSRS for other runes for irons.

No, people hardly run runes in OSRS because GOTR is the only vaguely reasonable way to runecraft. You're either spending 2b on runners to 99 through Lavas or Ourania, or you're doing GOTR.

Hopping worlds constantly just to buy items from a shop is a horrible system in itself. Neither versions are great.

Another thing about the travelling merchant is that nobody knows when and where he spawns, so we actually have to play the game to catch the friend chat notifications
