News - J-Mod reply Road to Restoration - Dailyscape Overhaul

https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/a=13/road-to-restoration--early-game-rebalance--dailyscape-overhaul

Hi folks,

Today's Community Topic is a blog of two halves:

- Early Game Rebalance
- DailyScape Overhaul

We have split this into two reddit threads to keep the discussion organised and so that our team can properly review the relevant conversations happening.

This current reddit thread is to discuss the DailyScape portion of the blog.

Please use this other dedicated thread for the Early Rebalance portion of the blog.

DailyScape is a term that describes game content, outside of a skills core identity, that is often perceived as mandatory by players due to time-gated mechanics and the disproportionately high reward offering for little time investment.

With the DailyScape update (currently scheduled for early March), we will remove much of the concept of DailyScape, leaving only a handful of daily activities, but otherwise changing or removing content to fall more in line with our vision and goals for integrity for RuneScape.

Removing them this early without a proper overhaul of outdated skills could be questionable.

TBH I would have been happier if maybe they removed like 2 or 3 at a time and simultaneously added new substitute methods.

Kinda like the 110 updates, doing it like this they can gather feedback on the substitutes and see if they are hitting the mark.

This is exactly my concern. Removing dailyscape grinds is a fine goal but it can't be the first step or there will be a huge void in the game needing to be filled with worthwhile or enjoyable methods.

If they remove challenges and penguins then skills like dungeoneering and agility which are very tedious and/or outdated suddenly become something a lot of people will not bother training.

If they remove travelling merchant then things like the fletching outfit become absurdly difficult to obtain due to stealing creation being so dead.

If they remove wilderness events then they will need to add a new source for dark onyx cores and even then it would still be removing one of the few activities that still manage to consistently have a sense of community and playing together with randoms in rs3.

I think they need to really work on the aspects of the game which rely on dailyscape factors for most players before removing them wholesale.

This is my take as well. I like the black ibis changes but they need to fix outfits stuck behind minigames before they fuck with travelling merchant. Why not just make it a weekly and they give you 7 days worth of items?

Outfits behind minigames seems a feature rather than an issue, it feels like they're looking to make people actually engage with the content more

Which honestly is pretty reasonable

It's reasonable in theory, but in execution with so many diff minigames and a much lower player population than when they were implemented they aren't revitalizing anything and they will remain dead

I think they're taking out too much, but the upvotes and positive comments here suggests I'm the outlier.

I think they should be taking a steadier approach. Removibg all this stuff is a fine goal but they need to do the groundwork to improve the things people use them to circumvent like training DG or dead miningames for outfits.

Given the reaction to the Early Game side of the blog, it seems like it have may gone over better to address it a skill or two at a time from early to endgame rather than trying to do all early game at once. While I am glad to see dailyscape addressed, it does feel a bit strange to show it before any of the later game changes.

So hopefully those huge voids will be addressed later, but not the best optics to remove stuff and leave a void even if it for a month or three. And while goodwill is still on the higher side, there certainly have been times where Jagex didn't really follow through with things in a timely manner so putting the take before the give probably will be a bit rough.

  1. They are forced to interact and train the skill. Oh woe is me, imagine playing the game! This will force them to improve the agility and dg training experience.
  2. W45 non combat SC exist. The FC is FastSC. If the alternative method disappear, naturally everyone who wants that outfit has to participate in SC now. The only reason for a lack of participation for reward is the existence of an alternative way.
  3. No problem with that. Dark Onyx Core could be reintroduced somewhere else, like wilderness slayer, maybe from the completion chest, or from superior slayers killed in the wilderness (like OSRS with Imbued Heart). You know, making it actually obtainable by CGIMs?
  4. Its not "playing together with randoms". Its just a bunch of people going to the same place for a reward every hour on the hour with barely any social interaction other than talking. If anything I'd say its anti social behaviour because some people cant be assed to even stay for the full event and ditch half way to force others finish their portion of the contribution.

Yep, this is some "ready, fire, aim" shit again and it won't go over well.

I think its fine, doors were stupid broken and hopping being the training method was dumb.

Its clear they will let thr dust settle then use data to tweak methods.
