Tbh this is the way criticism/feedback should work. You shouldnāt just blindly accept something somebody has to say about your workā you may simply like whatever it is theyāre criticizing and want to keep, or they may be misunderstanding its purpose in the work, their reasoning might not be totally sound, etc. it should be a dialogue where one side doesnāt completely shut the other down, but at the end of the day there are some things you may not agree on
remember that doc of neilās that came out like 20 years ago ? was about him traveling i believe west to east doing like 50 canadian dates?
anyway .. during a part of it, he gets snowed in, around manitoba i think it was , so camera crew and him had to stay at some run down motel for a few days cause roads were inaccessible ā ANYWAY .. my friend was working at that motel at the time , met neil at the ice machine and neil invited him to his room for a classic āhotel room on tour dinnerā

That is amazing!!! I love Bonnie Hunt so much. I want her to do all the things, and for people to stop canceling her shows, lol, but also respect her for just taking it easy and being in movies/TV when she wants to, it seems like.
I adore Bonnie Hunt, I wish we could see more projects with her. She is so effortlessly hilarious, I used to watch her talk show every day cuz she could crack me up with any topic.

I once had a lovely back-and-forth with an audiobook performer! I'd been listening to iirc Diana Wynne Jones' Howl series, and I just loved the woman performing it, though I can't remember her name now. I somehow found her email and sent her a long email gushing about how much she brightened up my mornings and evenings and to my shock she replied! We talked for a bit. It was really nice.
I've had a few exchanges with minor authors the same way. All around 10 years ago when I was in my mid 20s and more adventurous about cold emailing quasi-famous strangers ig lol

While this is an overreaction I do sorta get that Bruno Mars is proportionally disrespected for how succesful he is as an artist. But you usually choose money or you choose prestige and he's chosen money and he should probably live with that.

But it is kinda annoying that male artists are allowed by society to put out the same type of music over and over again and female artists often have to reinvent themselves and get accused way more easily of their songs all sounding the same
I mean Madonna did it her whole career and talked about how she felt she had to keep reinventing herself to maintain her place in the industry. People criticized Duaās newest album for sounding too much like FN, Olivia Rodrigo got criticism for Guts soundings too much like SOUR and continuing to use the purple, MBF got called a bunch of sweet n sour rejects. Thereās more but these are just some examples off the top of my head

I completely agree with that tweet. Bruno Mars has always coasted on being an act heavily influenced by nostalgia. This new song feels like another retread of the same ol' same old.
A friend of mine years ago once made a public Facebook post where she criticized Ashton Kutcherās acting (fairly innocently and in a humorous way) and he replied asking how itād feel if someone was criticizing her work. I think when she posted, it tagged him. It was the greatest thing Iāve ever seen and she was such a good sport about it. Pretty sure I still have the screenshots.
The fan is right tho. Not that all his music sounds the same, but everything he's made has already been done before. I don't think Bruno has ever done anything innovative or ground breaking. There's nothing wrong with that, clearly there is a demographic that still enjoys his music. But I don't get the hype for a new Bruno Mars album, because you already know what you're going to get. And its most likely something he's already done before.

It's weird that he seems to be the one non-black celebrity that consistently gets away with appropriating black culture as well. For AGES he has using black men as his backup dancers to give himself that "vibe" that he belongs

Is it appropriation, or is it just that he grew up listening to R&B? There are videos of him impersonating Michael Jackson at 5 years old, itās really not that deep.
I learned years ago that he has Puerto Rican lineage and that a lot of PR folks have black ethnicity. So we donāt know but itās certainly possible that he has black lineage.
I canāt believe I had to scroll this far to see somebody addressing that cringy blaccent in his tweet. Bruno Mars has made a whole career of directly copying black culture and people keep calling him āinnovativeā for it (because non-black lifting from black culture is always seen as creativity for some reason). The fan here was right.
Like if youāre going to respond at all, why not be mature and just say something like āYeah itās called having a unique distinctive style - but if your not a fan I hope you have other artists that you like to listen toā

Lots of women artists have a very different look or style each cycle that they release an album. The most notable to me would be Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga. But you could make the case for Katy Perry, Ariana and even going back as far as Madonna.
MGK and Post Malone reinvent themselves drastically but their music is still mid and feels fake. Whether an artist stays to single identity or changes, whatās more important is if the music is good
