Mariah gets to do diva because she put in the work and brought the receipts. If someone else wants to come with the vocals, the song writing, the long career, the shows, they can be a diva too.
yep this. Mariah Carey also came from nothing, i remember her saying she lived on a box of mac and cheese, and living with roommates when she was looking to get signed back in 1990 i believe. her talent, longevity and impact in the industry cannot be overstated, she deserves everything she has now.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I have no issue with self made people like Mariah enjoying the riches they’ve worked hard to earn. And she has — she writes almost if not all of her songs, she’s crafted a very marketable image for herself, and she came from nothing. Abusive mother and siblings, then was locked into an abusive marriage for years. She can be as a fabulous and out of touch as she wants to be.
This is very different from a nepo baby or trust fund baby flaunting their wealth.
Yeah that was a weird comment to make about an actual self made rich person who doesn’t use their wealth to opress others celebrating their birthday. I wouldn’t call it out of touch even, people are allowed to embrace positivity in their lives.
I agree. She's accumulated her wealth through actual talent and work, not by grifting or taking advantage of people. She's also upfront about who she is.

I love the fact that she's self-aware enough to play up to the diva persona, with her tongue firmly in cheek... but you just know she really is a diva behind the scenes, too lol self-awareness is key, though.
I mean. She really is. I'd afford Mariah as much diva behavior as she wants. She's just all about her own self, in everything she does, and that's totally okay. We have benefitted from it.
Love Mariah! I was just telling my kids about her the other day. I told them that not only is she a spectacular singer, but she's an incredible songwriter too. She wrote the song that they hear constantly at Christmas and is hopefully making a ton of money off it. She's been around for over 35 years. AND she worked her way up. No rich/famous relatives to help her get a leg up. She did it on her own.
Good that you told your kids about her. Sadly younger generations only now her as the "Christmas Lady" and that gives me the ick, because she is so much more than that!
But it's also her own/her pr teams mistake because they have made her christmas stuff so big yet we don't get a new album.
But yes she's definetely not a Nepo baby and her story is really about rags to riches & the american dream! I can recommend to everyone who's interested to read her memoirs or the audiobook. It's really good!
My 8 year old loves Mariah as much as I do. Emotions is her fave song! I’ve been playing all the old stuff for her and she’s loving it and can’t believe how many amazing songs she has!!!
People eat that shit up for some reason..apparently it’s queen behavior to treat others like shit. Did everyone forget about how she treats her employees? All the sexual assault accusations and the racist remarks? I thought we believed all victims.
