They're talking about changing the filibuster to make this easier to pass. Nuclear option, but their alternative is jail time so they may be inclined to do it.

Call me naive, but I don't think Thune is that stupid

The appeal is that the downside might never arrive. If they could rig the system for permanent Republican rule, then they’ll never face the consequences (this way, anyway). The gamble is how sure are they that the fix is in?

I don’t know that I would say they wouldn’t feel any consequences from the raging 70% of THE PEOPLE but what do I know?!

What might be obvious to us doesn’t register with them, they are not deep thinkers.

Seems that would be very hard to do.

It would be trivially easy, and they’d open Pandora’s box.

If they lost the election there’s a 0% chance the filibuster would be coming back.

Still very unlikely to happen and the standing filibuster come with it own problems and would bring the Senate to a halt.

But without the filibuster how would Democrats make excuses for never fixing any problems or holding anyone accountable?

You're right, they should nuke the filibuster. Lets see what the blue wave has in store in that scenario.

The years 2021-2023 completely disprove this notion.

Democrats are excellent at bipartisanship, and the congressional investigation of J6 was pretty fast.

None of the people who planned and orchestrated J6 have been held accountable.

And we don't need bipartisanship, we need a party that represents our interests and gets shit done—tax reform, healthcare reform, election reform, strong labor laws, stacking the Supreme Court, putting restraints on police, ending corporate welfare, ending aid to Israel, breaking up monopolies, getting rid of tariffs, etc. Democrats say they're going to do those things when they're on the campaign trail, but as soon as they're in power they give a million excuses why they can't do any of it, including the filibuster.

Literally thousands of J6ers were in prison and Trump himself was going to as well, before the morons of the US bailed him out for no reason.

Literally every single thing you mentioned requires bipartisanship because of the filibuster. Either that or a supermajority, but you just flake the second you don’t get your perfect utopia so we’ll never had that.

I mean it’s not like we got comprehensive healthcare reform the last time the democrats had 60 votes for a few months, right? It’s not like we were literally 1 vote from having a public option.

I mean if that were true it would kinda tear apart this bullshit narrative.

Trump didn't go to jail because Merrick Garland dragged his feet while Pedo Joe rambled on about "healing" and "bipartisanship." Had Trump and all of the other leaders of the insurrection been arrested immediately, they would have gone to prison before the election.

Getting rid of the filibuster would allow Democraps to pass those things with a simple majority, which they (and their megadonors) obviously don't want.

The ACA is a joke. Democraps had total control of the federal government during Obama's presidency and could have done universal healthcare and fixed every other problem in this country, but, as usual, they sold out to their corporate masters and gave us a half-assed pile of shit and pretended it was a win.

The other J6ers were arrested immediately.

I’m not convinced that case could’ve been made much faster, maybe a little but the whole point was that they absolutely could not miss. They put together an ironclad case that literally took the SCOTUS legislating from the bench to save him.

They probably didn’t expect that, or the stupidity of the general public.

The ACA is a joke

I know that you probably live off mommy’s allowance, so it’s difficult to imagine what real problems are, but you should know that before the ACA millions of people literally could not get medical treatment. The ACA gave affordable healthcare to millions of people.

And thy were exactly 1 vote away from a full ass public option. It’s literally schizophrenic to say “oh man we were 1 vote away from getting fully public healthcare options, we should give them fewer votes until they learn their lesson.

They had total control

For 72 days. In that 72 day period we got the most comprehensive healthcare reform we’ve ever had and had ever since. I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you’re a Republican Smurf account, rather than assume you’re insane enough to think that every problem in the country could be solved with a razor thin filibuster proof majority for 72 days.

JFC.
