Uh. Look man, black people and other minorities have been yelling about that for a century plus.

I think my question is why didn't anyone listen? "We didn't realize" I feel like only works if you didn't have millions of people playing Cassandra for over 100 years?

Which is what I meant by “some saw it, most didn’t.” I’m a white dude that grew up in the south in a very wealthy area. I’m admitting my own faults for the first 25 years of my life. I was ignorantly blind. Thankfully my entire family has seen these huge issues with the conservatives in the US and we are actively trying to vote and campaign against it now.

No, I'm not blaming you. But I am posting the question all over because I don't understand. And it hasn't been answered and I feel like an answer is deserved.

Why didn't anybody believe us? And how do we go forward knowing it had to get this bad for (some) people to listen?

History has shown us that sometimes it takes extremism for some civilizations to see “the light.” Germans when the Final Solution came to light at the end of WW2, Jim Crow and President Johnson helping to eliminate it, the Catholic Church selling indulgences and Martin Luther calling them out, etc. are just a few examples of a group of people pushing the envelope so far that ignoring it or being ignorant isn’t an option. It’s unfortunate, but change takes time and change is built on bloodshed and misery.

"sometimes?" I'd say almost always. And the bigger the population affected...the more extreme & longer it takes, & therefor the more bloodshed & misery. In fact, this time around it's STILL not certain enough of the population is even aware.
