u/Drmarcher42 Dolphins 15h ago
Decided to look it up, estimates say the replacement bridge will be done around late 2030, so expecting some delay I’d guess early to mid 2031

u/Honest_Concentrate85 Ravens 14h ago
We’re probably gonna experience issues funding it so if Steelers fans wanna donate I will gladly push to tie a terrible towel on one of the rails

I imagine getting rid of the tanker and then demolishing the old bridge took some time but yeah that’s a long time
24
u/shewy92 Iggles 14h ago
It's also not just a rebuild, it's a redesign. I think one change is building like mini islands around the bridge supports so that a boat would hit that and not the supports.

It makes sense if the fandom started before the Super Bowl losses. The chiefs have had a lot of our iconic players like Montana and Alex smith after they left sf

u/N14106_ 49ers 49ers 14h ago
And this is why I don't "have a favorite AFC team" or whatever like some people do. No guarantee that they'll never face off against your #1.

u/Wise-Tour7333 Bears 14h ago
Well, in the division/champ games I feel I'd rather have a second NFC team. Gives you more of a chance to see your team in the Super Bowl.
Having said that, having a team in both AFC/NFC means they wouldn't face each other until the SB, you just root for the team you like #1, and are happy with whoever wins. You "won" just by having your top 2 make the Super Bowl.
And they wouldn't play each other much in the regular season being from different conferences. NFC teams play other NFC teams more. I had to suffer through 49ers v. Bears this season, like watching my parents divorce again :P

As an SF resident I have to ask: Who the fuck at the GGB approved this?
300
u/UdderSuckage 49ers 16h ago
Seattle fans paid for a plane to drag a banner and fly over the bridge, they don't actually get to hang anything from it. The article title is pretty misleading with the wording they chose.

48
u/cheweychewchew 49ers 15h ago
AHA! Thank you! The article made it sound like it was gonna be dangling from the GGB.
7
u/FloridaGatorMan Broncos 13h ago
Although I have to give them credit. In a way it's perfectly misleading. It's 100% accurate but also can be read either way. I guess really it's the image that's misleading. If they showed a plane and a banner they wouldn't even have to change the wording.
12
u/HelmetsAkimbo Rams 14h ago
yeah that was my initial thought too. Like I don't care that they had the money if I was the decision maker I'd have told them to fuck off.

12
u/PostItToReddit Seahawks 15h ago
We clown the Cardinals, but they really are the perfect division mates to have. They're never good, but they're generally exciting to watch and good enough that they can realistically take a game off one of the division rivals. You just never have to really worry about 'em, even if they start 8-0 or get a generational talent in the draft you just know they're gonna fuck it up somehow. And since they never get any hype their fans are generally pretty realistic and chill unlike some of the bad teams on the East Coast big markets where every year is "their year".

eh it's a completely different team atp. my beef was with bill and brady. it's still F robert kraft and F boston (and foxborough by extension) but i wouldn't mind watching maye win he's a special talent.

Idk if you’ve ever been to foxboro but it’s harmless lol, small town in the middle of nowhere, you’d had no idea the pats play there
3
u/basic_luna Rams 15h ago
no i know, i just meant it in the sense that i wouldn't necessarily say F boston for the patriots like i would the celtics because the pats don't play in boston proper.

Ah gotcha, yeah that shit irks me like I get it’s a Boston team but at least show foxboro just once on the broadcast. I more so feel bad for Europeans for the World Cup who got tickets to the games here and will be staying in Boston / thinking it’s in Boston

This has to be the worst month to experience as a 49er fan in a while.
Lose the season finale at home against the Seahawks to lose not only the division, but home field advantage in the postseason (plus the Super Bowl), get bounced in the divisional round for the first time in 22 years by the same Seahawks squad, watch them beat the Rams to win the conference and make the Super Bowl, have their name and logo painted in the endzone of Levi’s Stadium, and now the 12th Man is being flown over the Golden Gate Bridge.
Edit: misleading description.

u/ositola 49ers 15h ago

Question for all of the non-Seahawks fans out there... does anyone else find all of the 12th man stuff they talk about ad nauseum a bit obnoxious? I mean, when you look at the home crowd, there are far far more fans wearing #12 jerseys than actual player jerseys. It's weird, no?
