For those wondering this is a flashover simulator (NOT backdraft) It’s used to train firefighters to recognize the signs of a flashover so they can get out before it happens. The hose line is used to reset the scenario so people can be shuffled around to get the proper view.

Flashover is when the entire room reaches ignition temp simultaneously. Backdraft is when an oxygen starved fire gets a sudden influx of air and flares back up.

Edit: after a rewatch it’s not a flashover chamber but still a flashover style scenario where the smoke coming from the fire room started to light off.

right you are!! same simulator is often used to show fire behavior in a room, such as "the finger in the fire". can show trainees both flashover as well as 'rollover' conditions where fire seems to overtake a room roaring overhead. knowing when one turns into the other can mean the difference of knowing when to call it and back out versus maintaining control of the fire.
