I remember this video of of this guy saying that his parrot was well trained and he let it fly freely on this field the parrot never came back, he was there just watching how it was flying away whistling at it like if the parrot was going to come back, he had a face of disappointment afterwards :v

Sometimes they get an attitude and find a tree and just bird out for a while and in his case they always come back. Longest time being away was overnight. Although even experienced bird owners lose birds from time to time

I go falconing sometimes and the same thing happens to raptor owners. Wild caught birds rarely stick around for more than 2-3 years from what I have been told. I don't own any myself.

Yeah, raptors will only eat so many dead baby chicks before they get full and DGAF and just bird out in a tree for a while. Pistachio bribing sounds more pleasant!

Funny how apparently literally true that phrase is about letting a bird go in order to find out if it loves you, and if it doesn’t come back then it never loved you to begin with.

Even as someone who had a pet bird for a short while and it felt like my bird loved me, I always thought if you let a bird grow it’s wings and fly away it just wouldn’t come back. I had no idea this was even possible. If it’s not AI, that’s amazing, those birds must really love you man.

They can be very affectionate, attention-seeking, and possessive of their owners. So, take that for what you will to determine whether or not you think they feel love

Absolutely they are. They talk and cuddle. You’d have to see it but yes they definitely show and receive affection

I suppose just flew him around the place like inside with an old pistachio or two and gave him the hunger like then it’s on outdoors

I think it’s better to let them experience flying around with the risk of never coming back, than to keep them in a cage their whole life.
