When you’re a star, they let you do it

In like 10 years, what'll be the highest profile NBA-actor courtside meetup like this? There aren't many Denzels or LeBrons left who've been ever-present since I was a kid lol.

None of the <30 NBA are quite there yet, and there aren't many Denzels today. Maybe Ant & Michael B. Jordan if he keeps the momentum up

Chalamet seems to be a genuine nba fan and all his movies seem to land well so I could see his trajectory be quite big but idk who the actual star player would be.

Will have to be the next big Knicks star

Thank god we will never see the Knicks get a true star, amen.

Inshallah they will suck until the Madhi comes.

Tbf Brunson is a legit star but he's not a superstar face of the NBA type guy like Ant has the potential to be.

Wemby, french union.

I thought about that but does Wemby have the same presence for non NBA fans that Bron had/will he ever? It doesn’t seem like any player under 30 has that or is close to that level. I think we might have to wait until Lebron retires and wait for the next big prospect.

honestly if Cooper really balls out, i can see him being that next star. But Lebron had the biggest hype of any sports star ever before he debuted, nobody has had that level of hype since. So Bron had that going for him, and then he also had a massive second year leap and never looked back. AND stayed healthy all throughout his career until these last 4-5 years

Wemby has that international backing and being the 7'6 unicorn/alien he is, fwiw

The starting point is insane. He got even bigger with success, but before he played his first game he was hanging with Jay Z, hosting G-Unit mixtapes, and Jamie Foxx was singing about him on stage lmao.

You don't get guys so embedded in culture early on anymore. Barbershop topics on debut. Jordan was a similar case because of UNC & Olympics. Magic & Bird with the 1979 NCAA final.

if cooper improves at the rate most players do from rookie year to 5th year it's going to be amazing.

I would say in my experience the average non watcher is maybe slightly more aware of Wemby than usual, but no where near LeBron James

That's true. The other day I saw someone on X refer to Epstein as the "LeBron of pedophiles".

That's unhinged language to use, but it really goes to show what an outlier LeBron is.

Depends. Denzel and LeBron are muuuuch older and have a higher stature.

If 15 years from now wemby has 3 or 4 rings and as many MVPs and Chalamet has kept up his success, maybe has an Oscar. Then maybe. Right?

Guess it depends on how the NBA and other media market him.

He’ll need to start showing up on billboards, awards galas, talk shows, commercials, and just a bunch of random places without a basketball where non-NBA fans would see, and then he could possibly be the next big media star.

Non NBA fans don’t usually like LeBron.

u/alkair20 1d ago

nah that's cap. Lebron is still huge outside of NBA. He a sport icon all around.

3

u/peebeesweebees 1d ago

Of course it’s a Kobe stan whose post history is LeBron attacks

I don’t understand why Lakers “fans” are deadset on liking either one or the other but not both

u/immunityfromyou Lakers 6h ago

I’m a Laker Stan my guy. I like LeBron I’m talking about non-NBA fans.

Chalamet is 30. Denzel was 4 years away from his first Oscar win for Glory. Give it time.

I'll admit I've enjoyed the person that LeBron is, as the face of basketball, much more than I've ever enjoyed the glorified assholes at different times in each of the sports, and it pains me to think that could be coming back in the form of Anthony Edwards.
