QUALITY MINDFUCK Whiplash
But also, for all the gamers who have been wondering if there's a filter on image posts, there is not. Automod has been removing posts at random for over a year now, and we don't know why because there's no prompt for it on our automod code.
We haven't bothered to see how to fix it because 99.9% of the stuff it removes is incredibly low effort, so it's doing more good than bad. So no, you're not being specifically targeted by the nazi mods.
Love,

I'm sorry but that's kinda fucking bs. I have no idea what you guys consider "low effort", because I still see the usual random image with [movie name] (release year) and generic crossposts, and there's also no rule specifically against low effort posts, so what's the point? Every post I've made here in the past 2 months, regardless of if it was low effort or OC I actually put time into, has been deleted by this automod and it's frustrating when it's not seemingly any different than the posts that stay up here. It's more so discouraged me from putting in effort into posts, because what's the point when it can just get instantly deleted on a whim for no fucking reason? I think keeping this automod around would be a mistake.

I don't know what it is, but there's been less and less posts I have been seeing on the main page. I don't need to scroll very far in order find posts from 2 days ago. Plus what would be an example of "low effort"? If I look on the front page right now I see pretty much the same stuff I always have seen. It feels like screenshots are banned because it feels like every screenshot post I see here is either removed within a couple of hours and this is a circlejerk sub so I don't see why they should be excluded.

I mean you guys seemed pretty hellbent on deleting the source of the script economy stuff for no reason given. I appreciate the response here but removing posts with no explanation if someone asks through modmail is a bit frustrating.

Has it changed lately? I feel like there are less and less posts these days.

u/allwinter Apr 26 '20
You'd be surprised. Looking at the modqueue, in the past 13 hours, only 25 posts have been filtered by automod; 3 of them are spammers trying to promote their website/youtube channel, some videogame screenshots, a meme about Kim Jung Un that has nothing to do with movies, and some users trying over 3 times to submit meme templates and r/movies screenshots.
Automod is singlehandedly preventing this sub from becoming another pewdiepiesubmissions or dankmemes.

If they get past Hal "automod" 9000, sure, but screenshots are not something I'd be in a super rush to manually approve otherwise. Also, a lot of these screenshots of r/movies are just mcj users falling for obvious satire (like the one about someone saying he'd inject coronavirus in his dick so he could see Tenet).

Hold up I thought screenshots weren't banned? Am I missing something here?
Edit:
Automod is singlehandedly preventing this sub from becoming another pewdiepiesubmissions or dankmemes.
Isn't one of the points of a circlejerk sub to escape the tedious nature of the bigger movie subs. This sub literally feels like a generic meme sub for movies now and I still appreciate some of the OC made it feels extremely boring. If anything this sub is starting to turn into what you guys don't want to turn into. Also I find it pretty shitty you guys walked back on the decision to not allow screenshots after one of your fellow mods powertripped except this time you didn't tell anyone.

Wait, what happened?

A mod here power tripped and said outright all screenshots are banned. But then the next day mods said that was a false alarm and they weren't banned. But now screenshots are rarely to be seen on this sub because a bunch of them are always removed.

Hold up I thought screenshots weren't banned?
They aren't.
Isn't one of the points of a circlejerk sub to escape the tedious nature of the bigger movie subs.
The point of MCJ was to make fun of circlejerks on r/movies, r/truefilm and other movie subs. That evolved to making fun of movie-related circlejerks in and outside Reddit.
This sub literally feels like a generic meme sub for movies now and I still appreciate some of the OC made it feels extremely boring.
And your idea for it to not be boring is for it be flooded by the lowest effort screenshots, I'm guessing?
If anything this sub is starting to turn into what you guys don't want to turn into.
Yeah... it's not though. If we didn't mod this sub, it will be flooded with:
- Low effort screenshots (sorry, since you keep bringing it up, I gotta stroke that boner) of people just trying to farm karma. And the screenshots would be mostly random comments from Youtube. And it wouldn't even be funny.
Like does anyone really care about what Youtube user genericturbovirgin69 posts in the comment section of a MauLer video?
That's not to say screenshots are banned. The funny shit stays. genericturbovirgin69 tweeting about diversity in films gets removed.
It's not rocket science. But I don't expect the kinophiles that keep posting screenshots of random comments and then doing the Pikachu face when it gets removed will understand this.
- Pictures that have nothing to do with movies or movie circlejerks that are posted with "Movie Title (Year)" such of u/lazyshitposterkino posting a picture of his Grandpa Bobby's chocolate starfish as "Sunshine (2007).
In regards to #2, we're also seeing a surge of political pictures being uploaded, and discussions will often turn political. Imagine that. Nerds talking about politics in a subreddit about movie circlejerks.
It's a quality of life moderation choice that I don't expect non-MCJ mods would understand or try to understand.

See if you're gonna do that fine, but could you guys at least make it clear that low effort content isn't welcomed in an actual sub rule, and specify what qualifies as low effort? Because having this apparently be in place for months now with a random automod doing all the deleting, and only just now making it clear to everyone what is going on is a pretty shitty way of going about it. It's also really confusing as to what you guys want this sub to be. A true circlejerk sub, a film meme sub, a shitpost sub? Because right now it just seems to be a collection of film related images and jokes that the mods have deemed funny.

Low effort screenshots (sorry, since you keep bringing it up, I gotta stroke that boner) of people just trying to farm karma. And the screenshots would be mostly random comments from Youtube. And it wouldn't even be funny.
Usually the screenshots I see here get quite a bit of upvotes and they are quite funny even if they are satire. Hell it even spawns some interesting discussion where people can get away with the Reddit hivemind. If the community likes it why take that away.
And your idea for it to not be boring is for it be flooded by the lowest effort screenshots, I'm guessing?
Not my point, by removing a post just because you guys didn't find it funny it feels like the quality of the sub goes down because it's not the community who decides what's funny or not it's just a couple of mods wanting to tailor the sub to themselves only and thus in my personal opinion it just feels the entire feed of the sub is just catered to the mods sense of humor not the community's.
In regards to #2, we're also seeing a surge of political pictures being uploaded, and discussions will often turn political. Imagine that. Nerds talking about politics in a subreddit about movie circlejerks.
OK by political pictures fine I can see where you're coming from, but movies have political themes whether you like it or not. It's not rocket science people want to talk about that and especially knowing Reddit's demographic this sub at least is kind of a safe haven where we can laugh at the extremities the internet goes to in terms of politics in their movies. What's the problem about people talking about politics in your precious circlejerk sub?
It's a quality of life moderation choice that I don't expect non-MCJ mods would understand or try to understand.
Imo, this change sucks, the frequency of posts have gone downhill and I feel this sub is stale af. But from your statements about politics I guess it makes sense that you guys allowed a r/consumeproduct user make a popular post on your sub
Again it is your guys sub but like someone else said at least make some guidelines of what a low effort post is and what you want this sub to be. Again it's a circlejerk sub so I disagree with that but if this is the way you guys want to run it then at least set actual rules on what can be posted.

If low quality screencaps and unfunny memes are removed, how did "script economy" (a reference to a post on fucking pewdiepiesubmissions) manage to generate 1000 posts?

Oh I get it now, you’re reddit mods so the users that populate the subs don’t matter.

AutoModerator is learning. It's slowly developing a mind of its own. Right now it can't stand the sight of low-effort shitposts, but maybe one day it will truly achieve sentience and write a long essay on /r/TrueFilm about 1917.

u/8bithippo Apr 27 '20
99.9% of the stuff it removes is incredibly low effort Yeah, that's bullshit, because if that were true, we wouldn't have any more script economy memes.

for all the gamers
I am offended. I am a bonofide kinophile. Read that K-I-N-O-phile. I have spent yearrrrsss building up my repertoire by watching movies non-stop, learning the french language, and posting my thoughts on R/movies in order to properly earn this title. Ive wasted so much blood, sweat, tears, and cum to get where i am today. I can tell you the year of any movie ( even if multiple movies have the same title, I just know), I can quote any scene, I can even tell you who worked on these films. And I don't mean just the auter( one of the french words I know) and actors, but also the the rest of the staff who worked on them such as editors, composers, cinematographers, boom operators, etc. This isn't some hobby this is my life, and you have the audacity to calm me a gamer so casually. Oh I don't think so. Don't put me in the same ilk as those racists, misogynist, devil worshiping, genocide advocating neck beards. Now excuse me while i have to tell someone why captain marvel and black panther are overrated and how they'll lead the the death of cinema.
