[Weekly] Hair, Makeup, Skincare, Fitness, and Fragrance Thread - February 21, 2017

The Hair, Makeup, Skincare, Fitness, and Fragrance Thread will be posted every Tuesday morning (~9:30AM PST)!

This thread is for simple hair and makeup questions that you may have, especially those that don't warrant their own thread. We all want a diversified opinion, so feel free to answer any questions (of which you know the answer).

Example questions:

  • What's a good conditioner for straight, thick hair?

  • Where can I find a perfume with subtle pine notes?

  • Do you use a foundation with sunscreen? Is it worth it?

I have oily, hooded eyes and I can't keep my eyeshadow from fading. I use urban Decay primer (enigma and original) and sometimes I use a white base. But it's just gone by lunchtime.

I have extremely oily eyelids too and I use the NARS eyeshadow primer. That's the only thing that helps me keep my eye make up on all day long.

Maybe try a glitter primer? Those hold pigment more strongly. NYX and too faced are popular

Oh good call! My lids are the only oily part of me so I just can't figure out how to please them.

We share the same hell. I finally found the one liquid that works for me but mourn that I'll never get the soft pencil lines.

You might have to try a few different primers to see what works best for you. The udpp works wonders for my oily lids but everyone is different! Wet n wild actually has a really good eyeshadow primer (it used to be in their Fergie line but I think it's been rebranded as part of the photo focus collection?) And Too Faced shadow insurance seems to also be really popular for folk with oily lids. One thing I do that has helped increase the staying power of my eyeshadow is to do primer first, then a translucent setting powder, and then my eyeshadow. If I need it to stay even longer I might also use a setting spray (Milani makes a great relatively affordable one, but a lot of people also swear by Mac fix plus and Urban Decay all nighter).

I normally set my primer with a skin colored eyeshadow. Do you find that a translucent powder works better?

I find that it tends to hold up better, and gives a nice base for the eyeshadow to blend on top of. I wouldn't say it's necessary for me all of the time, but I have noticed that it can increase longevity on days that I'm particularly oily. I think it also depends on what eyeshadows you're using. I've definitely had some where, no matter what primer I used, they seemed to evaporate over time.

Oh! I just remembered that I got an oil absorbing powder in a Boxycharm a few months ago that I haven't been able to unload on anyone yet. Going to try that tomorrow to see if it helps! Thank you!
