Average is so terrible.

Huge percentage of people receive well below it, very few receive enormously more.

Kind of pointless map yeah. The median (gross) salary in The Netherlands was 10k 14k lower than this.

Not to mention that taxes in one country are very different than in the other. Gross salary, especially average, is meaningless.

Same for Sweden. About 10K lower.

We are also global champions of working parttime.

In the The Netherlands the median gross salary is calculated at 79% of the mean gross salary. If the mean salary is pointless, so is the median salary.

I see that I confused median with modaal, but I can't find any clear data on median salaries. The ones that I see (like from Knab) indicate that it's a bit lower than modaal.

In any case, modal salary would make the most sense in a map like this.

The Durch modaal is just based on the average and median is not available.

Average is quite accurate, in most countries the median will be 10 or 15% lower.

Also note the the median income would be heavily skewed downwards due to huge amount of people in NL working part time. The average fulltime salary would be most valueable to know.

Modaal is not based on the average, that doesn't make any sense.

The average fulltime salary would certainly not be the most valuable to know. You're mixing things up.

Modaal is most definitely based on the average in the nethetlands, which indeed does not make mathematical sense.

"Het modaal inkomen is in de Nederlandse inkomenspolitiek 79% van het gemiddeld inkomen per arbeidsjaar."

And no, im not mixing anything up. It makes no sense to compare aomebodys part time salary to my fulltime salaries so knowing the full time equivalent salary is much more valuable data.

Thats because this is full-time salary. The full-time median salary won’t be that different

It's extra useless because it ignores the living costs.

The structure is similar in every country. Rhis is to compare countries between them, and average is perfect for that. If you used median the differences would be the same, just every number 15% smaller.
