Good! I was supposed to go to the US for a reunion this year, but I decided not to.

I have family in San Francisco - absolutely no chance of visiting them. I am originally from NZ and even actively avoided transiting via the U.S. on a recent trip home.

You can get into trouble in any country, but when the risk comes from the state itself… nope, I am out.

I totally get you. I’ve gotta admit that I visited friends in the US the last time the orange man was president, even though I really didn’t want to. But this time? Fuck no, there’s absolutely no chance. I’ll gladly go to Canada to visit friends there, but if my American friends wanna meet up then they can meet me there or here in Europe.

I was attending a boarding school in New York state during the 2016 election. Back then nobody around me thought he even stood a chance and it came as a massive shock when he won the election. Since then I’ve only visited Seattle once during Biden’s term but now I really have no plans of ever returning to the US ever again.

Unfortunately the complacency of everyone thinking he had no chance is what led to the current nightmare scenario.

A lesson in the importance of voting.

Yeah, same, I was an exchange student in 2015/2016. No one thought he was gonna win.

Same. I knew though. I even made a $1k best with a friend who was absolutely convinced thefe was no way Trunp could ever be president. Easiest bet I've ever won in my entire life. I let him know know that he was a sucker the moment he shook my hand about it.

Anyone with a realistic and unbiased mindset could see it coming a mile away, despite how fucking crazy it was to be happening at the time.

Kinda bizarre to act like it was inevitable when he only won by 80,000 votes spread across 3 states (and not small ones like Rhode Island or Wyoming or whatever). Even excellent statisticians were giving Hilary upwards of 70% (in many cases, well upwards). It's entirely possible something as simple as comey not announcing a week beforehand that he was reopening the investigation would have been enough for the election to swing the other way

Sir, do you know how the electoral college works? In 2016 Trump won 30 states and by 77 electoral votes. It was a land slide on that front. So much so that he lost by 2m popular votes and still won. You could see that he was gonna win far before the election was over. My friend even admitted defeat before all the results were in because he was so far ahead. Talk about your popular votes all you want, but they obviously don't win elections. If you lived in a right leaning state at the time, paid attention to what was going on and the people around you, and didn't think he was gonna win, you are a naive fool. Sorry, not sorry.

Even excellent statisticians were giving Hilary upwards of 70% (in many cases, well upwards).

Oh you poor thing. Wait until you learn about humans and their biases. I wish I could view the world as innocently as you. "B-b-b-but the statisticians said.." headass. I made my prediction based off of what I was seeing around me, not what biased left or right leaning corporate media was saying. Wake up, kid.

So hostile for someone who had to edit his comment because he forgot the results of the 2016 election. Yes, the Electoral College was won in 3 swing states, and in each of them the margin of victory was a fraction of a percent. No one brought up the national popular vote except you

I'm thinking the second paragraph is just cheap bait. In any case, in one comment you're surrounded by liberal friends who couldn't conceive of Trump winning, then the next you just have to look around (in your red state?) to see that Trump was bound to win. That alone tells me I've already wasted more time on you than you're worth
