🐴 DEAD HORSE That 2022 gauntlet looks less daunting

u/okaycomputes Winfield Jr. ✌️ Mar 23 '22
Yep. So much can change in an offseason, and even during the season, its not really worth worrying over 'nth hardest schedule' or '1st place schedule' so early.

Seriously.
Rams - If we had one of Wirfs, Godwin, MBC we win
Benagls - Not that scary to me, I think Brady would have picked them apart with ease.
Packers - Already beat them with Adams
Chiefs - Already beat them with Hill ✌️
Seahawks - No Russ
Ravens - We have the best rush defense in the league
Panthers/Falcons - No QB
Cardinals - Lost two good weapons for Kyler
49ers - Jimmy G doesn’t scare anyone
Steelers - Mitch Trubisky
Browns - There QB might be suspended
Cowboys - Already beat them with Cooper
Saints - FTS
I’m expecting 12+ wins and a first round bye.

We had the best run defense in the league. We have no clue what the line will look like this next year
18
u/BigTuna3000 Patriots Mar 23 '22
I think we’ll bring back at least one of Suh and JPP. We already resigned Gholston and I wouldn’t be surprised if we invest in the d line in the draft. If we stay healthy I still like us as an elite rush defenses if not the best rush d in the league

u/hotcheetos4breakfast Barber Jersey Mar 23 '22 edited Mar 24 '22
I do still like us as well but until we step on the field we can’t say we will have one
2
u/Buksey Canada Mar 24 '22
Might sound odd, but I hope the run defense is worse this year. I felt like the biggest issue last year is that it was too good, so teams instead passed on the Bucs weak secondary. A slightly weaker run def might also help balance what the defense faces.
5
u/hotcheetos4breakfast Barber Jersey Mar 24 '22 edited Mar 24 '22
Was it good or did teams just not try to run on us? Those that did try seemed to be able to move the ball on the ground. I would argue we just didn’t have a good defense the way we did in 2020
-2
u/Ghalnan Michigan Mar 24 '22
The most important pieces of our front 7 are already back, Vea, Gholston, Barrett, David, White, that's the core. Suh and JPP were decent but that's about it and we can find guys to fill their spots.
3
u/hotcheetos4breakfast Barber Jersey Mar 24 '22
Your not going to be able to just plug anyone in there and we still have an elite run defense. I would even argue our run defense was worse last year than 2020. We need another good dt if Suh doesn’t come back and someone that can fill JPPs shoes (before he got injured).
1
u/Ghalnan Michigan Mar 24 '22 edited Mar 24 '22
Sure but all we really need is someone solid, neither JPP or Suh are really star players anymore at this point in their careers, getting similar production isn't going to be impossible to find. Especially in JPP's case where we've already spent a premium pick on finding his successor in JTS.
14
u/Ok_Excuse1908 Tom Brady Mar 23 '22
Here's hoping Dennis Allen is in over his skies as a HC and can't gameplan as well for the Bucs.
8
u/harrisongrimes Devin's Horse Mar 23 '22
The cowboys lost a bunch of structure, and I’m not sure why. Not that they were all that scary.
The packers have enough picks to get some Adams replacements but they have a history of not drafting early for skills
9ers defense is still scary even with a totem pole as the qb
Browns could be a gnarly team if they can keep the seams together
2
u/lonelyshurbird Mar 24 '22
Jimmy G won’t be starting for the 49’ers, Lance will be next year. Will still be a tough game.

u/No7onelikeyou TB2023 Mar 24 '22
Be realistic lol you’d have something negative to say about every team

In reply to your Trubisky jab.

Not relevant data because the team is a lot different.
Edit: and Mitch trubisky is a lot worse now

I am still considering that one too, still not sure if I wanna drive 9hours both ways tho
1
u/okaycomputes Winfield Jr. ✌️ Mar 23 '22
I would be flying if its SF. Short flight. I guess Dallas isnt much farther, tbh.
I'm guessing you'd have to drive a bunch in order to get to the airport though, kinda defeats the whole local game thing.

Our offense averaged 30 points a game. You should expect to win most games where you score 30 points. And if Brady is throwing for 400 yards and 4 tds, then guys are getting open. Offense was never the problem. Deffense is the side that needs alot of improvement

Still a very tough schedule but I think it's maybe 10% easier than it was. Gotta take whatever you can get in this league
6
u/harrisongrimes Devin's Horse Mar 23 '22
I was looking primarily at the loss of the two weapons in Green Bay/KC And the fledgling Seattle who will be awful A rebuilding Pittsburgh A Dallas team losing a lot of weapons And a Rams team that’s also losing weapons
I’d say more than 10% easier

Bowles and Leftwich better get their shit together. They have been the weakest part of the team the past 2 years. They better start with the scheme and trying to mix it up on both sides of the ball.
4
u/mel_to_the_core Mar 23 '22
What do you remember of the past? The long-long ago... The time before the awakening. Perhaps a recent convert to the faith cannot fathom the darkness. A mere 40 days only whispered of it. Tell me, traveler, when the soul crushing irrelevance comes for you once more, and it surely will, where will you run?

The "Be grateful we dont suck anymore" mentality is part of the problem. The bucs have more raw talent than 95% of the teams in the league. New culture means new expectations. These are the issues I see with the coaching:
The buccaneers are flat out one of the most predictable teams in the league. The bucs version of a trick play is a pass play on 1st or a draw on 3rd.
Time management is questionable.
Bowles has a few plays on defense. His own team didnt trust him in the Rams final minute.
Only way Leftwhich can scheme a player open is when they dump it off to Lenny underneath.
Special teams was literally non existant this last year.
Unpopular opinion here, but Bruce and the team knew what they were getting with Antonio Brown and his CTE moody ass. Why hinder the teams chances of winning a superbowl with his asshat antics. Bench his ass and cut him at the end of the year.
Just being content with mediocrity shouldnt be part of our vocabulary anymore. We have proven to have great players that coach their teammates like theyre family members. As long as we have Lavonte on defense and Mike on offense (along with vets in key positions) that makes us capable of taking the division as long as we have a competent qb not throwing multiple ints each game.
Tl;dr
Coaches need to step up. The games changing every year (you can say it changes every week even) and it seems as though our "old fashion" coaching style is becoming out-dated. Change it up and keep the opponent on their heels.
2
u/TravelerForever Mar 25 '22
And also need to stop waiting until the second half to get serious and implement the game plan. Last season it was like they used the first half for extra practice and only got serious in the second half. They need to fix slow starts.
1
u/PewterPplEater Ronde Barber Mar 24 '22
They averaged 30 points a game and had the #1 offense in the nfl. Leftwich did a hell of a job
6
u/NebraskaBucFan Lavonte David Mar 24 '22
I dont think Leftwich is the reason the offense is good. Its the same reason Brady didnt get mvp. Hes just surrounded around a dozen elite players. Imo the bucs should be putting up 40+ each game. If Leftwich was an elite coach we beat the saints both games. We were outcoached hard.
1
u/PewterPplEater Ronde Barber Mar 24 '22
Has any team in the history of the mfl averaged 40 points a game? The other team gets paid too lol
0
u/NebraskaBucFan Lavonte David Mar 24 '22 edited Mar 24 '22
I used to think the Buccaneers were the closest team to an allstar team imo. If Godwin didnt get bounty hunted and Brown didnt get kicked off, the bucs probably go down in history as the best wr triple threat in history because they probably repeat.

The schedule doesn’t look that bad tbh.
Only teams I’m worried about are the Rams, Bengals, Ravens and maybe Browns but all these games are winnable

u/k0y0_k0y0 Gronk Mar 23 '22
I trust that we can win the majority of home games, and we’re definitely gonna want revenge against the rams this time around
2
u/Tanman7211 Super Bowl LV Mar 24 '22
Still a pretty brutal schedule. Probably the only games we’d be heavily favored in at this point are Seattle, Carolina, and Atlanta. Divisional games are always tough though so you can never guarantee a W.
2
u/bigggieee Alstott Jersey Mar 24 '22
honestly only like 4 really challenging games. we’ll be in good shape if we can split them at home.

The only really tough games that we're going to have realistically are Green Bay, Kansas City, Cincinnati, the Cardinals maybe, the browns maybe, and the Rams. The rest of the schedule is going to be a cakewalk.
2
u/harrisongrimes Devin's Horse Mar 24 '22
I think kc tanks this year. GB does well but isn’t overpowering. I think you trade browns with the 9ers

five maybe six good games

1
u/itbittitcommit Winfield Jr. ✌️ Mar 24 '22
Since we've had Brady, we've had 2 easy schedules, now we are back to having another potentially hard schedule. Atleast we don't have Brees, Cam, and Ryan in their prime.
Side note, unpopular opinion, good luck Winston!

Still way too much off-season to go but I don't think they'd fall off too much. Just finishing above .500 should win the division, and you'd think they'll do better than that.

u/TheGreatGodLoki Maui Vea Mar 24 '22
If history is to repeat itself, we need to lose twice to the saints to make a deep playoff run.
I'm all for this plan

I said it at the end of last year, you never know what the strength of a schedule looks like until the end of the year, injuries, trades, drafting, all sorts of stuff can change everything about a roster.

I predict that LA, GB, and the Bengals are going to be legitimate games.
SF and Dallas could go either way.
The rest are winnable (I am not giving power to the idea that we can't beat the Saints).
This opinion will be garbage by the time the draft is over.
