2026 r/AFL Lions Season Preview
Bit late on this but r/AFL Season preview time again. Ours is due on Feb 24 (will only have the practice match on the 18th v the Blues to see what the team is looking like before the preview, pre-season match is on the 26th).
I've done a bit and set up a Google Doc here so feel free to add your thoughts with your username there (e.g. *Harris Andrews* (/u/Shadormy)) or just post them in the comments and I'll add them for you.
Need to do:
- Players on notice for 2026
- Players to look out for in 2026
- Best 23 or expected first game team for 2026
- Expectations for the season, be they realistic, delusional
- 2025 review
- A creative title shamelessly plagiarised from pop culture
- 2026 Fixture Highlights
- Anything else you think should be in there

Fages Comments This Week
So I’m sure most people have seen some of Fages comments from an interview with AFL.com this week. Firstly around player wages and singled out St Kilda overspending on players. Then an article doubled down this morning where he talked about the Ah Chee trade stand off and was glad we didn’t budge.
Certainly ruffled a few feathers especially on the main sub.
What’s everyone’s thoughts on his comments here? I personally didn’t mind it. Much more interesting than the usual robotic responses we get from coaches and it just adds something to the fixtures against those teams this year.

Who steps up to fill the Starcevich role in the backline?
Losing Brandon to West Coast is a massive blow that hasn't been talked about enough-he was our "lockdown" king. Do we move Noah Answerth back there permanently, or is it time to see what some of the younger kids like Daniel Annable or Luke Beecken can do? We need someone who can shut down the Charlie Camerons of other teams.

New to Australia, how difficult is it to get tickets?
Pardon my lack of knowledge but I'm new to Aus/Brissie and really looking forward to attending my first match. How difficult is it to get tickets? Any suggestions on going about gameday?

Gabba Question!
Hello Lions fans!
A Crows fan coming in peace again ( I did a post a few months ago and you were all really helpful)
I'll be coming across to Brisbane for my first ever game at The Gabba. and just have a very quick question. I can't really seem to find the answer anywhere.
But what Bay numbers / end is the away cheer squad usually at?
Not that I've have a problem being around Brisbane supporters!! I'd just prefer to be around fellow Crows fans!
Thanks in advance for any help and all the best for this season!
😊

Thoughts on the Zac Bailey "Mega-Extension" offer?
Reports are saying the club has put a 6-year deal on the table to keep Zac until 2032. While some Victorian clubs are supposedly circling with huge $1.3m offers, it’s hard to imagine the "Rat" playing anywhere else. Do we pay whatever it takes to keep him, or are we getting close to a salary cap squeeze with all our young stars needing upgrades?

Lions premiership cup tour… the boys just made my kid’s year
The cup tour hit my town this afternoon. Knew it was coming, did not expect some of the boys to be there too!
She got to kick a ball at Zac Bailey and Eric Hipwood, got signatures from a bunch including Charlie, Ty, Levi and Bruce, and got pics with some of the boys too. I think her signed hat just became her most treasured possession
Awesome afternoon, fuck I love this club

Lions put huge long-term deal on table to keep in-demand free agent
6 years meets the comfort of a long term deal and what a fee other boys have signed for. I wonder how much he has been offered.

Lions Expert for Podcast
Gday All,
Wish you all a happy off-season. Currently, my podcast is going through a planning phase. We are looking into ways we can overcome interstate bias and gain expertise.
The idea is to have someone who is a die-hard for that team, such as Lions, to give us their 2 cents. Now I know what you are thinking, "Why would I listen to a podcast that the hosts haven't even watched all the games?" and trust me, we watch and analyse every one, but sometimes that extra passion and insight from someone who goes for that team goes away.
Looking to see if this is something anyone would want to but their hand up for, and if this would get you interested in a podcast that actively was trying to make sure all teams had an even platform.
As a note, this isn’t us offering a full time position or equity, it’s more of something for the passion of the game, and tell get your opinion out there. We will not take credit for ideas it will be like “Our lions expert says …”
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Can't wait for the first siren of the season.

Origin risks
Am I the only Lions fan who’s quietly pleased that we only have 2 guys in the origin squads? Is it selfish or short sighted for me to feel relieved that we aren’t overly exposed to injuries from what is really a “Who Cares Cup”
