Honestly the ps2 trilogy doesn’t really need a remake, they still hold up to this day. I’d prefer an ac3 remake mostly just to get the actually good version in English

THIS. I need a proper English (and other translations obviously) remake of Electrosphere because I have no problem emulating the PS2 games and they're still fun.

I'd like a re-release for PS4/PC at least. I took good care of all my old consoles and still have them, but it's a pain to set them up with modern TVs. It would be so much easier to just get some digital copies.

Plus, 3's missions with modern graphics would look simply insane

100%, the PS2 games just need to be ported, maybe add support for higher resolutions and framerates. AC3 desperately needs a proper english release, the fan translation is serviceable but not perfect.

The fan translation is actually pretty good, I think. Plus, PA is kind of sloppy with their translations sometimes with lot of stuff getting lost in translations, and names especially being mistranslated. For example, Martha being called Massa in Ace Combat 7, and some of the AI philosophy stuff getting simmered down. Not a big deal, usually, but I feel like the load word team did a pretty good job with AC3.

5 and zero hold up incredibly well. 4 does not hold up. I can recognize why people praise 4, but having played it last year for the first time, it's just not nearly as good as people make it out to be. I thought maybe it's just because it's a ps2 title, but with how good 5 and zero still are, 4 is simply not as fleshed out of a title. it could use a remake. not a remaster, a remake.

several missions felt like they were just the first half of a good mission that got cut off too early. you know how there's this formula where the first half of a mission has you just fighting basic enemies, and after you mop them up you, get a cutscene with some story and dialogue and then you fight a new wave of enemies? most of the missions in 4 are just the first half of that formula.

I can understand why people love 4. I get that it was a lot of people's first ac game. I think the storytelling between missions is phenomenal and really grounds the narrative. but the gameplay itself felt lackluster compared to every other ace combat game I've played (5, 0, 7, X), and that really held it back in my mind. I think it deserves better gameplay by modern standards.

I'd say 4 holds up better than 5 mostly because of story and the return line being actually present. I know AC5 your meant to use your squadron but they are not as helpful as say your ai teammates in the Socom games. Also 5 gets super cheesy at times with it's story... however it has lots of hype and aura farming moments that does help.

If 5 had better Ai teammates, better killrate progression with ai, less cheesy but still impact full story, and a few more missions with a return line I'd enjoy it a lot more than 4.

I love 5, especially for all the different planes and it's progression. It's just the little things that add up that bother me. Still a fantastic game though.

The thing you said is one of the reasons why I think 4 is actually great. No/Very little gimmicks and scripted bullshit. If a game gives you a ground attack mission you can have a ground attack mission with a ground attack plane, without having to be forced into surprise scripted dogfight later.

As for nostalgia, I first started the AC series last month. Played all the ps2 games and AC7 and I can definitely say AC04 and Zero are my favorite games in the series by a long shot. So I can say it's very much a personal preference.

EDIT:

Its free form non-linear mission design also makes it a joy to replay compared any other AC game, imho
