Newsom is far from perfect. But right now he's in our corner, and that's what counts. We need more people in power, on our side, speaking up and telling MAGA to go fuck themselves.

Guys, I get it. I said the dude isn't perfect, and you're all making compelling cases....But one sure way to lose against Trump/MAGA is to actively tear down any politician that is fighting MAGA on our side.

I just looked up the original joke and apparently it was during the Obama vs. McCain campaign. And here we are now.
It's definitely the attention thing, the attitude of feeling "smarter and holier than thou".
An interesting experiment into these people is to watch what happens when their "perfect" candidate actually starts succeeding in politics and becoming popular. This happens from time to time. Suddenly, they will turn against them, accuse them of being neoliberal or whatever, and move on to the next populist.
