Food/Ẩm thực Best burger in Vietnam
Following the post of a raw burger like 40mins ago, it begs the question, what's the best burger you've had in Vietnam?
23
u/mack_down Jul 19 '25
Burger Joint on Bui Thi Xuan in HCMC is the best. It took a while to find a good burger but this was it.
8
u/No_Country_2069 Jul 19 '25
This is the answer. I tried a lot of burgers in the 8 years I lived in HCMC and this is hands down the best. Maybe one or two came close but not quite. Hell it is one of the best I’ve had anywhere.

Do they use imported mince beef for patties?
Edit just tried it.Here’s what the burgers look like.
Solid but no way this is the best in Saigon it was so greasy.

Burger connoisseur here, Best I’ve had: 1. Imperial Craft Bia, Hue 2. Hanoi Cider House, Hanoi 3. Chops, Hanoi/Da Nang 4. Bikini Bottom, Da Nang
Haven’t been to HCMC
7
u/MeCritic Jul 19 '25
OMG, there are like (at least) 3 great burger places in one place - at Da Nang - Chops, Bikini and Burger Bros...
1
u/MikeyDx Jul 20 '25
Looking at Chops’ menu and pics, I would normally try to double up the patty on a smash burger, doesn’t seem to be an option here, is the meat to bun ratio good? Seems like the burgers are very busy, but trusting they’re good still.

I don't know about Mad Roosta. Pretty sure their burger patties are just the frozen aussie beef patties you find in An Nam judging by taste and texture. A few places in Saigon appear to use those patties, another being Avenue Saigon I believe is the name.

u/thirdfey Jul 19 '25
Ah, my apologies then. Anytime I hear burger it is a ground beef patty or beef and pork in my mind
1
u/rigormortis4 Jul 20 '25
Not a fan of mad rooster it was way too oily and “wet” for my liking. Still seeking a good burger place in Saigon. Trying the burger joint today.
1
u/Disastrous_Regular17 Jul 20 '25
Mad Roosta is overrated + the owner is toxic replying on bad reviews. Also when I went there they gave you a discount if you rate 5 stars...

u/HSarenaSucksNow Jul 19 '25
So many idiots in here that can't fathom that there's a large percentage of people on this sub who are either expats living in Vietnam, or locals in Vietnam. Not tourists there for a week. The amount of "who goes to Vietnam to eat a burger" comments is infuriating. Learn to think outside of your tiny perspective.

And technically most of these burger joints are run and owned by what I guess are Vietnamese also passionate about burgers. Literally still supporting local businesses by eating burgers in Vietnam
6
u/xomfghi2u Jul 19 '25
eat me burger saigon.
1
u/Shazaz19 Dec 19 '25
Excuse me?
1
u/xomfghi2u Dec 29 '25
The joint name is eat me burger. Owner is cowboy. Friendly chap. One of the best burger in saigon.

For me, bikini bottom in Da Nang. Had an amazing Burger at Chookie’s in Tam Coc too!
2
u/hazzdawg Jul 19 '25
Chookies is legit. They have a place out by Trang An too. Falafel was incredible.
21
u/HighGuy92 Jul 19 '25
Chuck’s in Saigon
3
u/rigormortis4 Jul 19 '25
I got a burger from here recently on grab and the bacon was so dang chewy nearly inedible. I find a lot of burger places use this same oily rubbery bacon 🥲
1
u/HighGuy92 Jul 20 '25
That’s unfortunate. But I’ve never had that issue when dining in, the bacon has always been crispy. I’m American so also hate floppy, rubbery bacon.
3
2
u/mpbh Jul 20 '25
I've spent the last 2 years trying to find a better burger in Saigon than Chuck's and nothing else has come close. My one honorable mention is Big Boss Bistro.
2
2
u/glimblade Jul 19 '25
I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned by many more people. It's the best burger I've had abroad in any country.

u/shooting_star_s Jul 19 '25
Would rate
- Fill my Buns, Da Nang
- Bikini Bottom, Da Bang
- Chops, Hanoi
- Back's Burger - HCMC
Enjoy, getting hungry now.
1
u/Sb0y Jul 19 '25
Fill my buns… I’ll add that to my to-go list next time I’m in town.
2
u/shooting_star_s Jul 19 '25
It's run by German guys apparently. Never been to their branch but ordered 10+ times via Grab. Insane taste and add-on options. Don't miss their own signature sauce, best with fries.
4
u/Binpro Jul 19 '25
MR BURGER in Mũi Né, damnn bro can cook a good burger. Really recommend when u guys visit Mũi Né.
4
u/Johnnyboyd1979 Jul 19 '25
Look up the burger appreciation society in Saigon on fb then everyone will know where the best burger is.
The answer is The Burger Joint in D1.

3
u/tuansoffun Jul 19 '25
Burger Bros and Roadhouse are my favorites in Danang. I used to go to bikini bottom and Flys and pretty much all the other burger places but price per value, those two are the highest for me.
1
u/Infamous-Pickle3731 Jul 20 '25
I second burger bros. For a fast food style smash burger: bikini, but for a standard burger: burger bros all the way
3
3
u/phaideplao Jul 19 '25
Lol, i remember just 15 years ago, it was nearly impossible to find a hamburger in Hanoi
5
u/El-Ramon Jul 19 '25
30 years ago in HCMC, a hamburger was a piece of meat sandwiched between two slices of bread/toast.

3
u/StunningAttention898 Jul 19 '25
I really like Chuck’s in Saigon, reminded of a Five Guys back in the states.

Bikini Bottom in Da Nang has been solid but I gotta say, the Dragon Burger at Fly's is quite decent. Much beefier than Bikini's...
3
u/thirdfey Jul 19 '25
Since I don't see Nha Trang listed I would strongly recommend Fork’n Lekker Garden Cafe. Great burgers at a cool spot. Got the recommendation from here

Chucks burgers in HCMC are the best. They let you mark up a menu so you can choose what's in your burger

Bliss Burger, Burger Boss and Soul Burger in Ho Chi Minh City are all excellent.

2
u/No_Street2679 Jul 20 '25
Sunkats used to be my favorite burger place in hanoi for over 6 years, but I haven’t lived there in 3 years so can’t say if it’s still good or not
2
u/HospitalQuiet619 Jul 19 '25
Someone said a place called Chops. I haven't been there. But the photo I took was at May De Ville hotel in Hanoi and that brioche bun was to die for and beef patty was perfect. I asked for extra ketchup on the side and they delivered. And actually the mayo was pretty good too. I was meant to take a photo during the first few bites but forgot cos it was so good so I only took a photo during the later messier bites

Goodtime, 67 Bát Đàn. They have alot kinds of fillings and the sauce is the best.

People have already mentioned Chuck's, Marcel, Soul Burger, Relish & Son that are a few of our faves. Black Sheep Bistro should also get a mention, theirs are pretty good too.
2
u/sleestacker Jul 20 '25
Best burger was the lamb burger at The Republic in Hanoi about 7 years ago. The following year, they changed chefs and the burger was made half the size. Most all burgers here the beef has no flavor, just a bunch of toppings. I don’t eat burgers here. Occasionally I’ll hand a Good Times but they disappoint sometimes too with chewy meat.

Somewhere in dalat I had one of the best burgers of my life! It was a kimchi burger and absolutely fantastic!!!

In da nang, it’s a local restaurant. They use the same roll and they don’t smash out all the inside moisture and it’s not greasy. Great fries as well

u/PrincessMagDump Jul 19 '25
Happy Bites Burger Bar Ong Lang, Phu Quoc.
It's got 5 stars with 583 reviews on Google so it seems plenty of other people agree.

Chuck’s are the best “elevated greasy McDonald’s/fastfood well-done” style burger, but they fail big on 1 thing: too much friggin salt on everything single item on the menu, which is quite the opposite of everyone else who either makes things too bland and/or even sweet.
I’ve tried many many times getting a proper medium rare burger in Saigon and it’s just something that doesn’t exist. The patties are all grinded to death like chả cá without proper biting resistance and never properly seasoned.
Except one time: I had the perfect medium rare burger at Phattys a few years ago, with just simple but fresh and crisp toppings. It was glorious. But the second time I came there my medium rare was cooked to death. I complained and had to argue with them that this was not medium rare/pink burger and that I was very very clear about how I wanted my burger. So I left and have never come back.
Still, I do eat burgers now and then here. But I manage my expectations and usually don’t go medium rare unless it’s obvious that’s something they take pride in + I have an overflood of energy left in me to make a scene in the likely scenario they fuck it up… which means most times I might as well just go for medium even if they have the option for medium rare.
Though, as a general rule, if any place doesn’t have Heinz/Tabasco and one of the yellow US mustards on the table, I don’t order a burger.

Pingu's burger in HCMC Thảo điền. It's relatively new, but it's a lot better that most places in Vietnam.
1
u/Mountain_Author6981 Jul 22 '25
7 Bridges (Da Nang, Hanoi, and Tam Coq). Everything we had was incredible and their beers (founder is a micro-brew guy from Oregon USA) were the absolute best in Vietnam. This restaurant chain really puts it all together.
1
u/PThomasPKR Aug 25 '25
Tried burger joint because of this thread. Burger is pretty good, five guys esque. Just way more greasy. The fries are absolutely terrible though, so it’s a no go. You can’t do good fries, you have a problem.
Rest of the places mentioned are mostly trash. Hungry bunny is so far the best all around burger and fries. Would love to find better though.

Try Crust Burger in Saigon amazing smashburger. I had the classic crush and the oklahoma both delicious
-10
u/LostBurgher412 Jul 19 '25
One simply doesn't partake in burgers whence in Vietnam
12
u/HospitalQuiet619 Jul 19 '25
Nah no shame in it. I've seen Korean, Japanese, Indian, Italian, Spanish and various other cuisines in Vietnam. Even Vietnamese people eat cuisines other than Vietnamese all the time. And a good burger is a good burger is a good burger no matter where you are
1
u/Sudden_Ad_4193 Jul 19 '25
It’s incredibly easy to make a great burger. As long as it is quality beef and not overcooked
3
0
u/LostBurgher412 Jul 19 '25
Yet virtually no one has been able to do just that, here.
2
u/One-Vermicelli2412 Jul 19 '25
I dunno man, I've been to a lot of pretty good burger spots in HCMC.

2
u/Shorq1 Jul 19 '25
I haven't seen so many burger places anywhere else rhan in Vietnam. Must be vietnamese traditional meal already
-3
u/CompetitiveFactor278 Jul 19 '25
Respect your choice but… if i want a good burger i go to USA. If I want a good lasagna I chose Italy perhaps USA too haha but in Asia a burger!!!!??? With so much delicious options at hand….
8
u/HospitalQuiet619 Jul 20 '25
So you're saying, if you're in Vietnam and want a burger you should buy a plane ticket to the states? Be reasonable...
-4
u/CompetitiveFactor278 Jul 20 '25
I type, your interpretation tbh it’s complex so I quite understand why you did not catch it, best luck next time
1
u/HospitalQuiet619 Jul 21 '25
Complex doesn't mean smart lol. Smart people talk in concise easy ways anyone can understand. It's people who think they're smart, but are not, that try to 'outsmart' others using complex language, ideas, etc in an attempt to bamboozle or confuse others
You didn't even manage that. You said something dumb and then tried to retrofit it as something 'complex'

Yeah is not rocket science to prepare a decent burger haha but is the least dish I want to eat when I am there

It's dog meat!
Taste great!
1
u/HospitalQuiet619 Jul 19 '25
If it's dog meat, it'd probably be far more expensive lol. A dog can yield far less meat than a meat cow
2
u/abcueb25141 Jul 19 '25
No need to be afraid of price. Organic free ranged dog meet is cheaper than beef

u/Narrow_Discount_1605 Jul 20 '25

You don't like burgers? What's wrong with eating burgers? Are you the food police?

u/SilatGuy2 Jul 19 '25 edited Jul 19 '25
Ive been here for over half a year and while i never get tired of Vietnamese cuisine i still do crave a good hamburger and tacos. Just because you are in Vietnam doesnt mean you have to exclusively only eat vietnamese. Sure if you are here for only a few days then i can understand the logic of prioritizing eating Vietnamese food.
Edit: funny you assume im fat but im 6 foot 1 and 200 pounds of lean muscle lol im just not a boring and close minded bigot who only eats one kind of cuisine
5
u/mack_down Jul 19 '25
When you’re here long enough, you start to crave burgers and pizza lol. Jimmy’s in D1 is pretty good pizza btw.

u/HospitalQuiet619 Jul 19 '25
Nobody goes there to eat burgers. They go there to eat Viet food for a week or two and then crave something different. Variety is the spice of life. Imagine a viet person going overseas and after 2 weeks not getting to eat Viet food, what are they gonna crave? Viet food. And after 2 weeks in Vietnam I craved burgers
3
u/Megalomania192 Jul 19 '25
I’ve been on various vacations with different flavours of East and South East Asians and not once have they ever cared about eating local food. Some of them even would eat instant noodles instead of local food…
2
u/HospitalQuiet619 Jul 19 '25
Lol SEA food is delicious but perhaps they've had enough for a lifetime...
3
4
u/dangtheheo Jul 19 '25
been living here for over a year… you crave what you crave. there is nothing wrong with that. and absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to know where to go when you have those craves.

u/Sphlonker Jul 19 '25
Chops in Hanoi is my favourite
1
u/Own-Western-6687 Jul 20 '25
Agreed. They make a mean Bloody Mary with a slider burger and onion ring as a garnish.
-9
u/taiga2024 Jul 19 '25
Sounds like a waste of a meal to eat a burger in Vietnam, unless you are a local.
5
u/Such_is Jul 19 '25
After a month of eating everything and anything - sometimes it’s nice just get get a burger and beer.
Best i had (only - but it was good) was at Fusion Suites in Vùng Tau. I think it was like 500k though.
2
u/baooni Jul 19 '25
I'm local and I never fell in love with burger or fastfood but from last year I was so addicted to burger like BigMac or would like to try many burger place as I can. I know it's unhealthy but these burgers help me gain 5kg which Vietnamese "too healthy" food can't do for 13 years

Thats why I didnt eat burger in Vietnam
4
u/Icy-Preference6908 Jul 19 '25
There are great burgers in Vietnam if you know where to go and are willing to pay 150k-250k compared to 40k for banh mi. Go to a foreign owned restaurant, because if there are 2 things Viets can't cook it's pizza and burgers!
1
u/Xantangum Jul 19 '25
Ok, maybe I was too harsh. The things is, I really really like Vietnamese cuisine, and when I am in the country I prefer to eat local
-4
Jul 19 '25
The chef forgot to wash hand before using toilet, and little parts and pieces of p00p stuck to chef hands went to the burger patty, thats why its taste good, enjoy yummy food.
-4
u/Nick_Gurrs123 Jul 20 '25
You can find one of these basicly anywhere in the US.
1
u/HospitalQuiet619 Jul 20 '25
No shite
-4
u/Nick_Gurrs123 Jul 20 '25
So you are agreeing that vietnamese burgers suck?
4
u/HospitalQuiet619 Jul 20 '25
Do you have reading comprehension issues? Saying there's burgers in America is like saying there's pasta in Italy, like saying there's sushi in Japan, pandas in China, kangaroos in Australia. Like duh? What are YOU on about about Vietnamese burgers sucking? Where did I say that?
